I've timed the difference between Japanese and English text
Surprisingly, English is the faster text
Notes: Used yosshi's Any% run for JP and Nick's 100% Run for Eng
At White Wafers Nick takes a while to press 2 to get to the next textbox so I had to time how much time he wasted.
