Hello everyone, this is MigratingPig here to deliver some news regarding the leaderboard:

Unrestricted and Limited Strats have been renamed to, Any% and No Major Glitches, respectively. This change was only done to make the speedruns to be a bit more authentic with the rest of the site since the names seemed a bit weird and probably could've confused potential runners.

Individual Level leaderboards now have two subcategories, which are the categories above, Any% and NMG. This is in part that IL can be fun and quick with the Inverted Grapple strat, however, this using this strat can be difficult and is quite a feature in the game that it has been decided to split, so if you want to speedrun individual levels without the need to pull off the IG, there is now a seperate leaderboard.

Note: Levels without IG will be honored to Any%, No idea if there's a way to split the sub categories, but I'd rather not accidentally lose anymore runs after I lost all IL runs for about 45 minutes.

Note2: All runs have been found, orphaned and honored to any% :) none were lost, I will go in and move some of these runs over if the runner did not do IG, unless there's no possible IG in the level. (such as ES1)

All Balls Unlocked and 100% Categories have been archived due to lack of activity. If we get enough users who wish to run these categories, we may very well bring them back. All Balls is essentially just playing on Hard but you have to start a new file and sit through the balls being unlocked. 100% is literally beat Easy/Normal/Hard with a perfect score. This is roughly a 10 hour run with the WRs combined, without the inverted Grapple, with it, is unknown. Until we figure it out, I don't want runners here to get burnt out with such an insane run, could be a 15 hour run with those not familiar.

Annotation Lizzy/No Lizzy has been removed from the runs. It was put in place originally to see what kind of runners we got whether other balls could provide better strats and be more useful. After 4 years of running, it's clear that Lizzy is still the best choice. MAYBE if there's a high demand we'll add every character as an annotation just for fun to see different runners use different balls.

Platform SwitchVC has been added to the leaderboards as well. The NSO+ is actually a better way to run this game if anyone has been considering of trying.

Possible future changes: Will probably remove Mix 'N' Match, and Battle mode. They were added for fun but I think they kind of don't make sense. However, we're still discussing this.

Emulators are still allowed. There's been some discussion whether or not they should be banned. Considering the game usually freezes in an emulator, and the addition of NSO+, expect some changes from this in the future.

I think that's everything? I made a few changes the last couple of hours just to clean up the leaderboards. If you guys have any questions/comments/concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to me or comment below what you'd like to see made changed.

Yes, if you have not heard the news yet, Iggy's is available for the NSO+

Just so everyone knows, due to the lack of runners (if any lmao) there probably won't be much comparing about which version is better. I have checked it out, there is a little input lag, but cutscenes are in fact, faster than what the N64 is able to hold.

Don't forget to create Save States since the main game does not save at all, you will need to create those Save States as you go so you don't lose anything.

I updated console usage here on SR.C to include NSO+ and will be updating the rules to accommodate the NSO save states.

I hope if you're considering running this game to give this one a chance! I know it seems like we've been silent but I check almost every day here to see if anyone submits runs.

I hope with this addition we will see more runners.

So we have went ahead and created 2 new category separations.

Limited: Limited is the usual speedrun. This category should not use the new trick at all. The new trick is known as the Inverted Grapple, it allows you skip massive parts of the level if done at correct locations and is a bit difficult to pull off. Not enough runners for the game, but the trick does save a massive amount of time, it would be fair to separate the categories.

Unrestricted: Run with your heart's content, no cheats however, that's still the rules.
