I just submitted a 10:17.45 run - is this good for a new runner? Any tips if i'm just starting? Thanks
For starting in the game, I would recommend trying to run each individual level first. You don't necessarily have to do the hard strats in each level like @hahhah42 does in ILs - just practice the levels a few times, find a route that you are comfortable with, know where and when to do wall jumps, etc. Then you can run all 9 levels back-to-back in a full run (and you have checkpoints, so death isn't so painful).
That's how I approach games like these anyway.
(Can't comment about 10 minutes being "good" or not, as I didn't do a full-game run yet)
Thanks for the tip. I have been running individual levels, but I just haven't achieved good enough times to submit.
Unfortunately, Foxbot hasn't had so many full game runners that we can really say what's a good first time for a new player. But hopefully your example will encourage other new players to dive right in!
Anyway, based on your run, my suggestion would be to focus on getting more comfortable with back-and-forth wall jumping. Climbing up the same side of a wall is usually a lot slower in this game, so if you can reduce the number of spots where you have to do that, it'll improve your time quite a bit.
This should also give you a better feel for how far a wall jump can take you—there were a couple spots where you were in place to wall jump to the next platform, but decided to go back to the same side for one extra jump to be sure. (e.g. before the final checkpoint in 3-2.)
Ok, thanks! I've been trying to do faster wall jumps, but I still need practice. I will work on it, and hopefully improve.
