New CTR 101% Glitch and its possible problems

So with the new foundings over the past 2 weeks a debate may be started as to the validation of the new route, as it saves approximately 1 min in 101% and Max%, however it takes advantage of your memory cards state.

What happens is the game takes your file with the highest percentage and attributes it to the file you are currently on, however this only lasts for 1 event, then things return to normal. A more concise but perhaps more rambling explanation will be posted here:

In my opinion, this is in no way an invalid route, as since the findings of 2016, we have been abusing memory cards in these categories already, so this is not new, and therefore should not be banned.

Furthermore, the idea of this trick being similar to NG+ is a valid one, however I would suggest otherwise, considering during the timed run, only the file you started the game with is used.

This is a completely different case to games like banjo-kazooie for example as consoles do not lose time to others with this glitch, and the setup for the memory card is literally the easiest thing ever, so it's still accessible to everyone (also worth enforcing that once again we have been abusing the state of memory cards in 101% since 2016.)

So yeah, that’s just my opinion, feel free to post your own, and we can debate here :)

Unfortunately this is just NG+. Although you don't directly load into an existing file, you need it to exist on your memory card in the first place for this route to work. It is a shame since it's a cool discovery but yeah no can do.

For the record we haven't abused memory cards or saves in CTR before. We do create a save file, and load that file all inside the same run.

hmm, but with that theory, shouldn't all cups be NG+ coz Penta?

Either way, I think were at the stage where we have settled on the idea that NG+ would be cool, if it was more timesave than this, right?

I still disagree, but if the community is content with this being only ok for NG+ related things, then so am I

using all cups as an example doesn't do any good given it started off as an actual joke category and barely anyone acknowledges its existence

Definitely NG+ for reasons Natty mentioned, might not necessarily even be worth a misc. category given it's only a minor change in the route in the grand scheme of things

Okay, one last argument, then I will let it rest,

New Game + is using an outside file from the original within the confines of that category. If you were to do an All Cups run, you wouldn't say that is New Game + cause when starting the run to the end, you aren't switching a file or skipping to a later accessible area. If it were, you would enter the 1st cup, immediately leave and head straight to the final cup since fuck it, it is available at that moment. We never do that in 101 since we only use that 1 file from Adventure and nothing from the other 3 is loaded in, its just an odd effect from the glitch we do.

But again, as I say, if the community doesn't want it, then I'm game.

also yes, I agree that it if the community agrees that it's NG+ then it shouldn't even be on the boards, coz like lol there's barely any difference.

It's just a theory; A GAME THEORY! Thanks for reading:

Don't take anything I say as truth as I am just a dumb boy but myself and Hypno did some backroom research and I believe we came to a conclusion. So I'll start with what is happening through each part. You save, exit out and start doing the battle mode glitch. After 2 battles, you exit and get warped to Gemstone Valley. Now, you are in a battle mode state but in the adventure mode hub so the game is confused. Where this trick differs to the credits warp is that the credits play as a trigger for adventure mode and can only be accessed via adventure mode since there is no level or way of reaching credits so it gives you battle mode properties and adventure mode items and collectibles. This glitch places you in a battle mode glitch exclusively as there is no trigger for adventure mode properties as of yet. So you head into Skull Rock and here, instead of beating the level, you exit at your first possible chance. Now due to some reseach from Hypno, if you decide to beat Skull Rock, you collect the purple token, you leave the level and you are placed fully into an adventure mode state. But what happens when you exit before beating Skull Rock is that you skip that trigger dissallowing you to exit the battle mode state and since this isn't a warp into your savefile, it has nothing it can do but to believe you are in battle mode.

Now this is where it gets interesting because when you come out from Skull Rock, the highest % save on your memory card gets loaded until you enter a level from the hub. Originally, we believed that it skipped a trigger to place it back in adventure mode so you are in a temporary battle mode state however we have theorized a more tempting idea. So the reason we get the highest % things loaded is because Skull Rock is a battle mode level and outside of adventure, battle mode is the only place it is accessible. Since we are in the battle mode state at this moment, and we did some research to back this up, the game looks for the highest % adventure load like it would in battle so it can decifer what characters and stages you have unlocked. So when you leave Skull Rock, it believes you are in a battle mode load state where you are temporarily loading in keys and trophies from other places but we figured out that this state is a hybrid. We call it a "Battle Rock State" and this gives a Skull Rock property to the next track you enter. This essentially means that we are in 2 states at once, just like the Credits Warp mentioned earlier. The reason we call it a hybrid of Skull Rock state is because when you enter another track after exiting Skull Rock, whenever you collect a wumpa, the game assigns that value to a crystal and after collecting it, you recieve the purple token from Skull Rock and this places you back into the adventure mode state.

Now if this is what happens, and it very well might be, I can't see how this is NG+ because this glitch is exploiting the fact that the outside modes of adventure determine the glitch and not adventure mode itself. Along with all the prior reasoning stated from others. But that's my thoughts.

Tl;dr - I'm dumb but its not NG+ imo

Personally, I believe this can be allowed. While hypno specifically stated that it is unlike Banjo-Kazooie's FFM glitch (Which for those who do not know uses another file to perform a glitch, one set up before the run), I for one do see similarities. I do see an argument made both for and against this being allowed, but to me the precedent set by games such as BK is that having another file set-up to allow a glitch to occur is valid. Either way, it's still quite an interesting find!
