I wanted to ask why there such harsh restrictions on running the game via emulator?
I don't own a capture card and I don't have much faith in my Dualshock 3, which is why I would way prefer to run using RPCS3 on my PC. But when running 'Any% No Overlord', anything under 1:05.00 would get declined as it's on emulator and therefore, against the rules.
Is there some way to make a emulator run "trustable" of sorts? Or are there recommendations for cheap capture cards, compatible with PS3?
I think there's two solutions:

We set up 2 categories for each Run: One using a Load Remover and another being timed as RTA (real-time attack).

We keep the times on the leaderboard and give them a "legacy" status of sorts. Meaning: We change the rules but keep the previous records due to their historic significance. Beating those runs would be easier, yes, but at least everyone's efforts (especially yours, you did a stellar job!) wouldn't completely go to waste.
The latter would be my preference. I think, if we implement a Load Remover in the future, it would make RTA runs and this whole theoretical category, obsolete.
I feel that re-timing runs manually after the fact is way too much work, and is impossible to do accurately, as a Load Remover reads the game's cache while it's played and therefore isn't dependent on refresh rate.

I quite often have thought about how load times, create an unfair advantage for lower-spec hardware and leads to player's lowering their graphics settings to shorten them and increase their chances at a WR run.
Therefore I wanted to ask how our small and sporadic community would feel, about implementing something called "Load Removers"? With these, the time spent in loading screens wouldn't be counted towards a run's total time.
This allows for:

Players with lower-spec hardware to compete for the fastest times. (A buddy of mine had slight interest in running the game, but the loading times for him are way longer, rendering his runs as not viable)

Runs of the game to be a bit more aesthetically pleasing. (I quite often found myself frustrated by how undetailed and sad everything looks on minimum settings)
I realize that something like this requires quite some effort, and to be honest, I'm not quite sure how a Load Remover is implemented, but once all that is sorted, I feel this game is more attractive (literally) to run. So before any plans are being worked on, I wanted to know how you all feel about this? And if people are looking for a middle-ground of sorts, there could still be different timing methods be used for different leaderboards, one for in-game time with a load-remover and one as a RTA (real-time attack).
Also, if we decide to tackle this issue now, we might have our base layer already set, in case Assetto Corsa Evoluzione has a similar single player mode.
Very interesting. Thanks for your research! This is quite an interesting topic. Never knew about this and as I'm not a part of the active AC community, I don't know if this is known. There's possibly some research to be made on assettocorsa.net . "TL;DR: Don't be too fast. Fast driver get punished by getting less points/time. Don't know why.", this just annoys me to hell man. This makes it less about driving capabilities and more about understanding the game's inner workings. Which is fine, really, just not my kinda jam :/
Damn, great job on the GT3 Time Attack! I tried for like an hour to find a way to get it early but never pulled it off. This is a massive time save.
Very nice. I also came to realisation that it'd be possible on the 3rd race, just risky with the rear-wheel drive. By the way, what is your input method? I use a Logitech Driving Force GT. PS: I've already been sitting on a WR for a day, waiting to get verified. I got a 6:34 FYI, I've been checking speedrun.com every 30 minutes the past day. All I want is a WR already man haha
Hello! I've discovered that with all the excess points you get from the 2nd Race, you can skip the last chicane. It seems to me like you can even do it twice as in the following attempt I only lost -268 points and still had 297 more than I needed. That would probably save like 8 seconds of the total time I would guess. Here's my example (don't mind the gold split, I'm new to speedrunning and the split was set up wrong):
I don't think this would be possible on the third race however, as you commonly finish with just like ~150 excess points. These would still allow for a different, smaller cut though.
I really love this change. I remember checking the Assetto Corsa leaderboards some years ago because I finally wanted to speedrun ANYTHING but the leaderboards seemed like such a mess and running the whole game is an absolute no-go. Thanks for finally giving my inner desire the chance to speedrun! <3
