I've put it as every event listred in the individual competitions so the category just excludes the combined competitions. It's still a lot but it's basically Championship with both genders. Is that what you had in mind?
I just made up the idea and didn't give it much thought. @MorAgy added it but didn't elaborate on the rules. What do you think? It seems to make sense that every event, male and female is included in a single run for the "Going for Gold" category. Certainly makes it a challenge!
It's gonna be tiring for sure lmao
Non time based runs probably belong on https://www.twingalaxies.com/ or http://www.highscore.com/
There's also not really a way to add the values to sr.c without resorting to using time as a substitute for distance. Which is not exactly ideal.
Peronally I think the hard caps and relative ease of individual field events makes them much less interesting to compete in.
@MorAgy added me as a mod so @electricyellow could you list the events you would like for each gender? I'd be happy to add new catagories once you confirm that you've completed a run
If you wanna do a high score category that's fine but it's not really what I had in mind. I wanted a category where you go as fast as possible while also trying to achive the highest score. It adds an extra dimension to the speedrun and forces people to think about strategy. The theoretical best score would be very tough as you would have to be perfect in every event AND perform it fast, which gives more longevity than a simple high score category (it also fits the purpose of this webside)
The interplay between the score and time is an interesting idea I discovered when speedrunning golf: https://www.speedrun.com/pgatg3/level/TPC_at_Avenel#Professional_tees_TimeStrokes
sounds good!
I'd also like to see additional catagories such as:
"World Record Run" - fastest to obtain 10x seperate world records (any events) from a new save game "The Usain Bolt" - the triple double! Win 100m and 200m 3x times in a row as fast as possible "Going for Gold" - fastest to obtain gold from every event "Modern Pentathlon" - it's usually fencing, 200m freestyle swimming, riding (show jumping), shooting (pistol) and running (3km) so a custom competition could be made to almost match. We could just substitute fencing with an event of the players choice adding some strategy to the event.
So the current records mostly include events in which missing/failing is kind of encouraged to go faster. Could we add some score + categories in order to promote good and fast play?
For instance, all competitions that count points could have a system where every second incurs a -10 penalty which is deducted from the total points score at the end of the competition.
e.g. Current Haptathlon record by @Cobra_X21 is 5min 59 which would incur a -3590 penalty to their 5151 score resulting in an overall total of 1561. Which could be beat with some good fast play. Same with the other categories. I'd be interested in contributing to such a board.
thanks @TheAngryRanter - the switch to US version on usb seems to help quite a bit and just realised I got par on hole #9 so there's definitely room for improvement if you wanna keep pushing
I've been playing the PAL versions of the game and it seems the PAL vs NTSC framerate is putting me at a slight disadvantage on the leaderboards.
I "obtained" a copy of HSG1 US version and can only able to play it via usb on my PAL ps2 slim. Managed to get the WR in the mini golf by 8s and wondering if playing from usb effects load times significantly or I just had a great run (it was as fast as I've ever done it)?
I tried to measure the load times in editing software and compared two runs (PAL CD vs NTSC USB) and the difference is only about 15s - without factoring in framerate (which would bring the count lower).
Do you think it would be worth adding different categories for this?
@Bregermann I don't see the ILs listed. Maybe you didn't add a catagory? They won't show up unless you do. You may wish to seperate into front/regular/back tees, or perhaps US/EU/JP versions since there appears to be time differences.
Albatross from Emerald Resort #2 Par 5 during average 11:27 run https://gfycat.com/basichonoredgeese
Can we add Hot Shots Golf 2 / Everybodys Golf 2 to the series please?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everybody%27s_Golf_2
Here is a run of the 9-Hole Par 3 course from Everybodys Golf 2. Proposed rules: timer starts when hitting start on course selection screen and ends when ball is sunk on 9th hole. Any character and equipment allowed. (Enter name as "2HSG" for US version or "2GE" for EU version to access all courses, characters and equipment)
Other catagories would include Tournament (gain 10,000 points over 4 seasons) and Individual Courses (there are 7 courses in total).
PS. there's an error with Hot Shots Golf 1 release date stated as 1999 when it was 1997) - Hot Shots Golf 2 was 1999.
@RebelWatt @TarzanTheGreat @CaptainSpeedruns
it's hard to say but easy to measure. It depends on the hole really. Managed to get a 10:14 with the only error being hole 5 by completely missing the cup and 2ft radius! Only cost a few secs which was made up with a great hole 8 and some timeshaving using the 100ft putter instead of the 30ft in many cases
that's it? Just the celebration animation? Seems mad that you can make up a minute and a half that way! That's about 3 seconds per hole. I'm kinda surprised that the WR has so many Hole in Ones considering the long replay on some of them - wouldn't it be quicker to get close and then tap in? That's how all the other runs appear to be done
Cool thanks for responding Craigelbagel001. Managed to get my time down to a sub 11min with a terrible 18th and some accidental hole in ones. Think I can get down to around 10min 30s with some more practice.
What's the difference with the J version?
what system are people playing on? I'm playing the PAL version on a PS2 slim and managed a -17 round in 12:19. Not sure where you could make up two and a half minutes! There wasn't much hesitation and I only lost time on hole 12. Do you think load times and/or fps could be hindering getting a good time? What are your thoughts?
Hi there, I notice the rules can be exploited and I think it kinda goes against the spirit of the game:
"Timing starts when you press Start at the player/club selection, and ends when the ball is sunk into the 18th hole. Round down to the nearest second.
Runs must be played from the professional tees.
If using emulator, please list program and version."
Not sure how you want to deal with it...
Edit: I guess you can do this on previous versions of PGA Golf too by selecting Practice, starting the game and then choosing to jump to the 18th hole and sinking it to fulfill the current rules.
