Discussing about with other people, yes emulator won't be 100% precise as the original hardware.The emu PB record is not the standard, both console and emulator are accepted. Majority (almost all) SMS leaderboard has mixed console & emulator. Especially for this game there are very few runners (just 2). In my opinion I think it's great to allow people without the original hardware to run.
This discussion might come up again as we get more runners and runs. One solution is to 2 separate categories: hardware & emu. aparently some leaderboard is doing that. I would also point out for strict rules or more authentic runs, other plateform might be better (for instance speeddemosarchive). speedrun.com is in general more relax about it, depending on the popularity of the game of course

I think this is called a bit flip or something and it happens rarely, but depends on where you are on earth or in the universe. it can also be due to the cardrige not properly inserted, I remember they found a glitch like that for mario 64. It sounds like trying to manipulate the real life RNG ahah

apparently there would be a way to wrap tom the other side of the screen. Something discovered by Emsemts.

if we can reproduce that, that would help to make stage 3 and 5 faster and maybe get a sub 1 min!
the run was submitted with a time of 1:11.900 but frame counting with the new start I found 1:10.250. I'm gonna update the time, you are back 1st :)
it was submit with a time of 1:37, I frame counted it I found 1:36.683
you are playing on the PAL version (25 FPS) so you might have a time of 5:49 you played it on NTFC version. I would recommand to redo the run with the right emulator config, if you are still active

found this funny glitch while going through a wall, running and jumping
I've tried some run yesterday, I found a way to time sprinting so jerry doesn't drop any mine or bomb, the the screen scroll quicker:
it works! yeah not easy to get the right rhythms but might be possible to use after some practice.
to catch jerry when it climbs is all about timing, I would say it's pretty consistent unless it throws a bomb. I haven't try to do that for other level but it's pretty much having enough distance for jerry to go up and tom to be able to run right before the climb.
When I got some time I will try to calculate what distance needed. I will post when I got something

that's great! what did you do to make tom go through the plateform? I was considering to improve by making jerry climb and catch at this moment, same as level 2 (Garden). I might going to try that soon, thanks for sharing :)
During the follow the monk glitch (Scriptorium), we can access the tower part. From there there is another glicth with Berwal cutscene that change William hit box to have a negative height. We can then go through anything and go straight to the Abbey, the last part of the game.
Bad news is the cutscene doesn't load, so we cannot progress since the executioner is not loaded. We still have the ghost ability to go through walls, so we can go directly to the secret entrance and splash Juliette
But then we get block by the door that bring us upstair where we need to push the cross. For now I'm think there are 3 ways to pass that door:
- Glitch to unload the door by dropping and picking up items (Alone in the dark glitch), that might have been fixed for time gate
- There might be a way to trigger the cutscene, kill the executioner and then open the door normally
- Maybe there is way to get a glitched william with some saving manip, or maybe we can get into a ghost state again
here is a cheat run for this shortcut, I've used the room viewer to pass the door

for another game I run, we have decided a fix cycles=80000 and core=auto, so this way it would be the same speed / experience for every players regardless their computer's CPU
