I think it just depends on whether you're playing on the Japanese version or the US version. In the Japanese version you just need to despawn a certain amount of them to trigger the ending (although some are still killed for the exp), while in the US version you need to kill 10.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I've always liked the idea of just having an Any% category with the animal route listed as a variable (like Colin mentioned) for both the JP and ENG versions. That way we wouldn't need to worry about changing the main category and also everyone's runs throughout history can be on the same leaderboards for JP/ENG.

I know some folks might not like the idea of getting rid of the specific categories for each animal route, so what could be done as an alternative is add an Any% category as the main category in addition to the existing categories. Yeah, you'd have a small amount of overlap between Any% and Dino/Mammal but I don't think that's that big of a deal really. But tbh I don't think having the animal specific ones would be super necessary if we had an Any% category.

It's always bothered me that there has never really just been a "main" category for this game.

Considering co-op is not part of the categories that make up these trilogy runs, probably not. Nothing is stopping you from doing that for fun though.

Just wanted to add a comment here in case anyone is confused about this later on. After looking at my previous PBs, it appears my gold split on the final split was messed up and should actually be a high 3:07, rather than a 3:02. So my real sum of best is a 29:10.3. I wanted to mention this for context for anyone who is trying to push this game in the future.

Yeah, that looks like it would qualify as a completely different game. I'm not sure what the process is exactly, but you should be able to request that new games be added to the site somewhere.

I was watching a recent run of theoryjoe's and he had pointed out that the non-perfect delivery categories would actually be faster if we were to treat them as perfect delivery up until the last day, due to skipping the long wait in between days where it informs you of your lost/renewed subscribers. I believe this is definitely the case and would actually make a pretty big difference. What I'm wondering is how we want to approach that since no one has actually done it yet. I like the idea of the non-perfect delivery categories becoming faster, but at the same time, they will essentially be turned into perfect delivery categories aside from Sunday, which would eliminate the differences between the categories at a high level of play.

It seems like there are two options here:

  1. Leave the category rules as they are and allow non-perfect and perfect delivery categories to essentially become similar at a high level.
  2. Update the rules for non-perfect delivery categories to somehow prevent this.

I don't feel too strongly either way but I'm curious to hear what others think.

I believe for that trick to work you have to touch the right side of the screen, then move back left before hitting the goal. That's how it works on SNES at least.

SNES and Genesis were kept separate due to different loading times, but aside from that I wouldn't be surprised if there are other version differences too. I think it's more of a coincidence that folks up to this point have ran on SNES than anything, since there are so few runners.

Hello! I am requesting moderator privileges for https://www.speedrun.com/bubsy. There is currently only 1 moderator for the game, who I tried to contact prior to writing this months ago, but they seem to be inactive. Bubsy isn't the most active game, but it was recently discovered that the Genesis version of the game saves a significant amount of time over the SNES version and I would like to separate the categories. With the game only having one mod currently, and that mod being inactive, the game should probably have a new moderator anyways. For what it's worth, I happen to have the record in this game and already mod other pages on the site as well. Thanks for your time.

Has it been proven that emu is equal to console in regards to load times/frame rate? Been considering running this and noticed wr is on emu. I plan on running on console and wouldn't want to compete at a disadvantage. I ask because many gcn communities ban emu or make it a separate category.
