Ah, must have indeed been a mistake that was never corrected.
The correct wording should be "a fresh post Part One save", as in it has not been touched yet to start Part Two.
The recommendations to have a playthrough of your part 1 is just to ensure you don't "cheat" all the available quest points / upgrades / P crystals / etc... instead of actually setting up your file. It would be mainly requested in case of doubt.
IGT is only for a matter of recording, and maybe tiebreaking. The main timing method is still RTA. As a matter of fact, imo, I'd be inclined to calculate the Part 2 IGT by substracting your end of Part 1 IGT from your total IGT, but that would need discussion among moderators.
You are obviously allowed to copy your Part 1 savefile and reuse the same one for all your Part 2 attempts. There is no point in forcing runners to rerun the entire game everytime they want to just attempt a Part 2 run (might as well just run Full Game at that point...).
To combine the last question with the first one : this allows you to have ONE Part 1 playthrough for all your Part 2 runs verifications.
you're using quite an old version if bizhawk. according to the message, it can't access a required file in bizhawk\socket. Check you extracted the autosplitter's archive in the correct location.
Also idk if it has any impact but I notice your bizhawk is installed in the OneDrive folder, and I know this causes issues on other programs.
"I have no issue with these being uploaded to the guides section if Punchy would like to do so."
You don't need to be a mod to post in guides or ressources, normally. But thanks for your contribution ! ;)
Yeah we couldn't setup the series before the release of Fuga because you need at least 3 exisitng games on SRC to request one. And Fuga is precisely the 3rd one. We can now request it, either you or I.
So, thanks for putting the Discord tab ! We're happy this is gonna be useful (and thanks for joining too).
Hello there ! I wanted to ask if there was already an existing Discord server dedicated to Fuga speedruns, since there is no Discord tab yet. I'm interested in runing the game someday (once I finish up some other projects) and Discord servers are great to share ressources, strats, guides, and routing ideas in general.
If there isn't one already, we have an exisitng server for the "Little Tails" series (currently counting Tail Concerto and Solatorobo: Red the Hunter) which we can expand to include Fuga: Melodies of Steel. I'll avoid advertising by posting the link directly, and will post it only if it's okay to use it as this game's Discord.
On a side note, as mentioned, this game forms a series with Tail Concerto and Solatorobo: Red the Hunter, known as the "Little Tail Bronx", a universe created by CyberConnect2. Would you be willing to create a "Game Series" on SRC with us ? (I'm asking as a moderator of both TC and S:RtH) A game series would make it easier to find all the games for runners of each individual games, and I think it would be beneficial to everyone.
Thanks you in advance.
Hello everyone !
With the upcoming releasing of Fuga: Melodies of Steel, the latest game in the "Little Tail Bronx" series, it has been decided to extend the Tail Concerto speedrun discord server to the Little Tail series.
This means you can now find the Little Tail Speedrun discord server on the "Discord" tab on the left of the leaderboard page.
This aims at 3 things:
- Attracting more people to speedrunning Solatorobo by giving it more visibility with the release of a new game in the Little Tail series.
- Gathering the ressources there as well for more accessibility and more visibility.
- Discussions are easier on Discord than using the forum thread. The forum can still be used for important announcements regarding the leaderboard.
Thanks, and I'll hopefully see you there.
About the 5) Well, the % here kinda works as intended since EE is the 1st temple and thus is a certain %age of the game.
But I still agree on the category itself : it's gonna be boring. That's basically the same as reset wormholes when running Any% or Glitchless, but as a category. Please no. And in general, just taking an already existing category, and cutting it after the 1st segment isn't a "newcomers friendly category". People don't get interested with the 1st temple in a zelda game. That's the tutorial, the thing you want to get past asap. It's not even a major turning point in the game (like Midgar Escape on FF VII).
Only New Game (clean save). I guess a NG+ category could get added if some runners actually run it. But the main Any% category is for NG only.
The biggest problem with emulation, which is common to every "recent" platforms is that it is inaccurate when it emulates the console. I don't know how developed is Citra, but I'm pretty sure accuracy is the main reason why it's banned. And if the emulation is not accurate, this means you can't compete the same way as the console runners as it would be unfair.
Also, you are not forced to record your run with a capture card if you don't have any and don't have money to buy one, try to record it with a camera, this is still a better option than emulator. I'm in the same situation as you actually, don't have a 3ds capture and low on money, so I perfectly understand that it's a pain in the a**. :/
Qunicy ==> the invite link you provided has expired. : /
Thanks Mulsqi for the link.
Some maps are required to be 100% because of the item it gives : for instance the Recarm and Mind Charge skillcards, and also the labyrinth items needed to craft Zen/Rei's Clock Hand, a weapon that has a chance to ohko (only useful if you plan to put them in endgame, which I actually doubt).
That makes me think : Zen/Rei are useful in early game because they quickly learn all elemental spells, but they're quite weak after that. We should take them for the 1st part (before meeting the other characters) and switch afterward. They have really good buff skills and an ohko ultimate weapon, but I doubt the grind will be worth it, compared to other characters (Naoto, Kanji, Aegis, MCs).
As for the Discord server, I totally agree. Who wants to create and moderate it ?
Naoto wrecks every normal encounters once she learns mahama/mamudo. You just use her as progression and grinding, until you can powerlvl against FOEs (the golden beetle for instance). You can keep her during bosses i you give her the right subpersona (either incubus or debuff). In endgame, give her mind charge and her megido- spells will wreck bosses. I think you should always keep her (which will lvl her up and upgrade her skills faster).
The party is not hard to make, what I fear is the fusion route.
The reason I brought Incubus is because of the toxic slice + impure reach combo, which guarantees poison to a boss (which is super useful). Another good combo for subpersonas against bosses is binding hands + a magic bind skill (and possibly coupled with an attacker with Punisher). The thing with dlc stuff is that it gives you a lvl92 Magatsu-Izanagi with silent trust and calamity seeds. You can level him up to resist both light and dark and absorb all elements...
But the worst is when you copy the save to sd and erase on the console : it resets the "get them for free" flag, meaning you just infinitely summon Magatsu-Izanagi and Thanatos to sacrifice and power level your subpersonas... That's uberbroken.
It was sure from the beginning that Naoto would be used in speedruns (all hama, mudo and megido spells natively learnt). Aegis is a really good tank (life wall spells + high hp) and huge dmg with orgia mode. Kanji does huge dmg and once he learns bestial roar (natively) he can use link spells at max efficiency (which can use any element depending on the sub persona). I don't know which mc should be better but if you plan to get personas awakening you have to lvlup both to 55.
The problem with this party is the lack of healers and buffers/debuffers. If you plan to keep the same party (faster lvl grind) you have to take that into account for the subpersonas fusion route.
One of the best persona in early game is incubus (native toxic slice + impure reach at lvl11).
Final note : we agree that dlc personas are banned ? Which includes the save on sd + sacrifice trick ?
Final final note : is there a discord server for this game ?
Thanks for your reply.
Well, subcategories are a settings you can set on the boards. That at least is an easy change that can make things clearer. For instance, you can make 2 boards, Any% and AllPhoto%, and in each, you will have 3 subcategories, US, JPN and PAL. They will be separated boards, just that the layout will be clearer. (and I say it again : subcategories only changes the LAYOUT, it still remains different boards)
As for the emus : yes, they are faster in some ways, especially loading times. But why banning it and not opening a dedicated category ? That's what I wanted to know. If you are dead set on it that means you have a reason. I understand the "lag/running faster" issue so it can't be in the same board, but why banning it ? That's what I wanted to know.
By the way, you say "it runs faster than PS1 or PS2", but as I recall, you can't submit a run done on PS2, when you submit the run, there's only "Playstation" that shows up. (well, playing on PS2 is faster than PS1 actually so I can understand why)
Finally, considering the reasons for splitting the versions : yes, the PAL version runs at 50Hz only, but honestly, that's up to the player to take the burden of playing a slower version, it shouldn't be a reason to split boards as the speed difference doesn't change the overall route (especially considering that the PAL version is a slower translated version of JPN). About the difficulty thing however, I can understand why it should remain a different board then as it makes the games actually different.
Again, thanks for your reply. I only want to discuss respectfully, I'm not forcing you to anything, I just want to know more of your reasoning. ^^
Edit : replaced "jap" by "JPN" as it could be mistaken for an insult, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Hello there.
While I was speedrunning and experimenting stuffs inside the game, I also thought about the boards organization.
At first, Lastsin decided to split the boards between US and JPN, and that may have been a good thing, at that time. When I came with a PAL run, it became a problem, because that meant he was forced to split the boards again. TBH, I think that in the current setting, we should reunite the boards, as splitting it actually kills the little competition we have : there is only 1 runner in each board due to both region locking and emulator banning.
What I though is that we could reunite the boards (which would make 2 boards : Any% and AllPhoto%), and open an emulator category, which would allow other people to join and create a community for this game. Also, I think we should delete the Easy% and Hard% as no one has run it ever (and considering that PAL doesn't allow difficulty changing).
Also : please, let's use the subcategories to organize the boards, that will be clearer and smoother than 5-6 board / miscellaneous tab.
Note that these are only food for thoughts, I am only proposing things from my point of view, and am open for discussion about it.
Thank you. Edit : replaced "Jap" by "JPN" as it could be mistaken for an insult. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
They are still "testing" how the game would be run, so they haven't defined the rules yet.
Though it's been quite a long time already.
If you still want to attempt a run before they have set the rules, you should try to avoid anything DLC-related since it's a sensible matter, and be sure to choose the "normal" difficulty setting. I don't think there should be anything else, aside RTA, single-segment, and all generic things.
The US version is drastically different, as the layouts (the dialogs for instance) are different. The cinematics are dubbed and the intro has been replaced. I don't know the influence in the speed though.
PAL is just a translated version of Japanese, but slower since it's 50fps capped while JAP is 60fps capped. Its only purpose is if you can't run on the JAP version, or if you care about reading the dialogs. However, that could mean differences when executing some maneuvers due to the game running slightly slower (like jump-grabing and what I call door-skipping).
Lastsincommited decided it was better to split these 2 versions in 2 distinct categories when I submitted my run, but when I talk about records in my runs videos I still take all versions categories as a whole.
