Are you placing a block between yourself and the bed to prevent the explosion from knocking you into the air? If so, are you placing it in the best position to negate the blast for you? Usually, the reason you get launched is that the bed explosion pushes you a bit up into the air, causing your hitbox to collide with the dragon's, and that is what causes the player to be flung up high into the air.
It's probably to soon to tell; after all, we know very little about the specifics of 1.17 as of now. The reason that RSG is split into three categories is due to the vastly different strategies used to complete runs in each of the versions (as well as them having a substantial following of users who are interested in running them). So, if 1.17 adds something that is revolutionary to Minecraft speedrunning, then maybe, but if not, then it will probably become part of the 1.16+ subcategory.
Resource packs - Yes. All I request is that the game is still recognizable, so nothing that makes runs impossible to verify.
Toggle sprint - I'm going to say no to this as it is a mod that directly affects gameplay. If you aren't aware, you can simply hold down the CTRL key while moving forward to sprint; this should function similarly if not exactly the same as an automatic sprint button.
What cheat code did you use for this? I tried doing an RTA of this but the game would always freeze when trying to load world 8 after going down the warp zone pipe.
I speedrun SMB1, and my PB has reached the point where I want to move from emulator to console as to eliminate input lag. I have an NES, but not a CRT monitor, so I was wondering if any of you wonderful people could give me some pointers in regards to finding a good model. I would prefer 15-20 inches (60-75 cm) and up to or around $100.
You actually can, and it's one of the techniques needed for the 8-2 framerule save. It's just so difficult there's no reason to go for it under normal circumstances.
@NathanAlmighty Tavenwebb2002 (current WR holder) has a SoB of 4:54.747. It’s likely that more runners will take their SoB down to a 4:54 as well in the near future.
4:54 is possible. We have all the timesaves we need in order to get there, and they’ve all even been performed RTA individually. It may not be too realistic at this point in time, but that’s only because none of the top runners have reached the skill level needed to attain such a time. Given how monumental the 4:54 will be, it’s likely that someone is going to put in the hours to get there, whether it’s one of the current WR contenders or someone new. There have been many points throughout this game’s history where certain times seemed unreachable, yet they always managed to eventually be achieved. The 4:54 is no different. And, of course, there’s always the possibility of new tech being discovered that would make the task a bit easier. It may seem impossible now, but one day, I am certain we will see a 4:54 sitting at the top of the leaderboard. To quote Bismuth, “The limits are never where we think they are.”
I’m pretty sure they’re talking about the blue automatic timer that appears in the bottom right corner of the emulator window. It comes from a lua script; you can download it from this game’s resources page and then run the script in FCEUX.
I'll try re-installing the program. Hopefully it works.
That doesn't work. It's an issue I have had in multiple attempt sessions.
Recently, I've been noticing an issue when doing attempts on the Nestopia emulator. The game's audio seems to run at a very slightly slower rate than the gameplay, causing it to slowly de-sync over the course of a run. It's not noticeable in the early levels, but by the time I reach world 8, the audio is off by around .2 of a second, which makes the de-sync easily detectable. This is a problem for me, as I use audio cues to perfectly time some jumps in world 8, and the de-sync becomes kind of irritating and causes me to lose my concentration on the game. Is this a known problem with emulator, and is there any way to fix it?
@Mars02 I'm pretty sure Owen is talking about the stupidly precise method of saving an additional framerule in 8-2 by using absurdly optimized movement. You would have to do a fast accel, an extremely difficult jump on the pipe after the large pit, and perform BBG on the first possible frame. I don't know exactly how many frames of leeway you have when going for all of this, but I do know that it is very small amount, if any at all. Bismuth talked about it in his second SMB WR analysis video: (If the embedded timestamp doesn't work, then skip to 24:31 in the video.)
This is what @roopert83 (one of this game's super mods) said on the Discord server:
"I'm probably gonna kill that thread with gasoline and fire honestly. Thanks for you input on that. I deleted the first post because that Google spreadsheet had a ROM download link in it. The whole thing seemed impossible and absurd on the surface, but I admittedly did not read much of it as my care factor is pretty close to zero. Now that people are spewing toxicity back and forth, yeah. I'm just gonna kill it now."
And for some words of my own:
"I mean, we're how many frames from perfect 8-4 in real time without L+R, and you're expecting it to be done perfectly using L+R. As Maru said, it's just not feasible for this to be done in real time. I don't think you have bad intentions, but this project is simply never going to work as you want it to."
Stream quality at certain settings is probably going to be more dependent on your internet speed rather than the programs you’re running.
I did, and I thought I would post it here has well. If this type of content isn't welcome in the forums then I apologize. Some people from the Discord found it interesting so I thought it was worth posting here as well.
