I'm the new supermod for SWAT 3 (https://www.speedrun.com/swat_3/) and I'd like to have it added to the "SWAT Series" if that's ok with everyone.
Just FYI, I believe the IGT for this should actually be 6:59.
I'm not a MTPO mod, so this is just FYI. The Retron 1 is hardware based but known to be inaccurate. Whether that would put it in the realm of emulators or not, I'm not sure.
I recorded a few as test, but haven't really gone full bore with it.
Nice! One benefit of WolfMAME is that it will produce an INP (input) file that you can save as additional proof of the run/settings.
Sweet! Thanks for delving into this.
I don't think anyone is doubting the legitimacy of your run, so no need to do another one (in my opinion) unless you want to. It would be a cool proof-of-concept though if it works.
The ideal would be to use WolfMAME, but if that's not possible then yeah, it makes sense to use what works instead.
Nice, congrats!
I'd like to propose a change in the level 1-19 category to include:
"Player must start with a blank high score table."
Here's why: "Levels 16-18: "Best Players Initials" The play field begins with blocks that spell out the initials of the players that ranked in the top three on the game's Hi-Scores list, with Level 16 showing the player in 1st, Level 17 showing the player in 2nd, and Level 18 showing the player in 3rd."
Because of this, a player could get set the top 3 scores as UUU, LLL, III or something equally advantageous. This should be clarified to be fair to the existing records, and to encourage use of the more cheat-resistant WolfMAME.
Existing records should be grandfathered, and the top three already follow this rule.
Hello. Can the rules for this be update to reflect the newest record?
Currently the rules state: "Time starts when clicking on the 1st chapter and ends on delivering the final checkmate."
However, shiai started on the 8th chapter. So may be just change it to: "Time starts when clicking on a chapter..."
Otherwise, it's a little confusing.
I've been added as a mod. I'll start verifying the backlog.
FYI, I'm also removing "real time" information for runs that use IGT to clean things up. So if your run is re-verified, don't stress.
As far as I know, no one has built an autosplitter for any Virtua Cop versions yet, so people are using manual timers.
First, congrats to Planetaryashes on his run (and getting it to work on MAME!)
However, MAME should be a separate category as it is too different from the PS2 version. MAME uses mouse input while the PS2 uses the mouse emulating an analog stick which is far, far less responsive. Even more importantly, MAME runs faster than the PS2 in just about every respect. I did framecount on Stage 1-1 from the -WAIT- at the storefront to the -ACTION- after the truck tips. Here are the results.
PS2 Start Time 1:59.467, End Time: 2:06.467, Frame Rate: 60, Time: 7 MAME Start Time 37.617, End Time: 43.15, Frame Rate: 60, Time: 5.533
As you can see, in this 7 second window, MAME has already gained 1.5 seconds on PS2 runs. Multiply that ratio by the length of the run and I think you can see where this is going...
Finally, if at all possible WolfMAME should be used instead of vanilla MAME to prevent cheating. I don't think Planetaryashes cheated, it's just a good precaution in the future.
New, faster run submitted starting at level 0.
Clearly level selection makes no difference: anyone who can make it to level 20 isn't going to see any benefits/deficits based on starting level.
Also, this is nonsense: "you must start at level 0 as level select / codes are sitewide banned for skips"
- NES Tetris allows any starting level.
- Tengen Tetris: "Any level/handicap is allowed."
- Tetris DX allows any starting level.
- Game Boy Tetris: "Player can start from any level 0-9" .. and these are just the first few I searched.
The sitewide standard is any level selection. No codes are used, so that "rule" is irrevelant to my run.
I just had my run rejected, despite following the rules as written, which originally stated: "you may use any settings".
AFTER my run was submitted the rules were changed to require start at level 0. That's not cool.
Functionally, there is no difference between starting at level 0 and level 9 as hard-downs are used throughout the run.
Are there any more rules you'd like to add before I run it again?
