I'm not sure every emulator that's allowed but I believe at the very least Bizhawk is. Third-party controllers should be fine, but you can't use turbo.
Having an IL board for this game doesn't really make sense because you could just start the level with any ability you wanted, plus you wouldn't have to grab any Waddle Dees
Emulators are not very accurate for this game
Unless you're all running on a basic Wii U instead of a Deluxe. I suppose that could be the difference.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll let you know if anything works
Is it a known thing that old Wii U's load slower? I think I got mine around when the Wii U launched, so that could be it
To show what the problem is, here's a comparison of the same loading screen for me (top-left) vs. the top 3 Any% runners.
For some reason it takes me longer to get into the stadium. Could it be that my Wii U needs memory freed up or something?
How do other runners play this game? I'm playing on Wii U VC with no disc in the Wii U (and not displaying the video on the game pad) but I'm getting slightly longer load times than others and I'm not sure why.
What defines 2P for a run? Is it spawning Gooey, using Gooey, or having a second person control Gooey? In my runs I use Gooey, but I control him myself.
After a bit of testing, it seems that CTQ is correct. It doesn't matter whether the ball lands fair or foul, so try to hit foul balls on this mission!
That seems like a very solid theory, thanks! I'll test it out. Normally I wouldn't worry about something this minor, but since that mission is the first one for a couple run categories, it doesn't hurt to try. Good thinking, and I'll post my findings when I get a chance.
I just want to figure this out so that I can actually use it in runs.
They're both on the Wii. I don't even think I turned the console off between the two runs.
I was comparing two of my runs and found that on the first mission one run had significantly lower times in between the first three hits. This video shows the difference: Notice how the video on the right waits for the ball to roll a bit.
Can anyone explain why this happens or find a way to make it happen consistently? I've played around with it and found different ways to make it happen but the only thing consistent is that I have to do bunt feints. Any help would be appreciated!
What are the differences between playing on an emulator versus a console? I'd like to know if my times on a PS2 are comparable to the emulator runs. I watched the videos under the emulator category and the courses are slightly different; is that because they're on an emulator or they're playing Rayman M instead of Rayman Arena?
I know that resetting after Dedede unlocks MG5, but I don't know about Boss Butch.
When doing 100%, is it okay to reset the game to skip the credits after Dedede and Zero?
