I've been working on my smb1 speedrun for a while and I have had much progress; however, I can't get a 380 on 1-1, I always get a 379 (pipe skip). But I'm still able to finish the level with a 369 (which is normal in a speedrun). So my question: If I can get a 380 on the pipe skip, is it possible to finish the level with a 370?
Yeah, for sure Basicaly, you lost 10 seconds in the way betwen the pipe of the out of the subzone and the flag So if you finish the subzone with 380 and do the good final part, you get 370 In except of course of have to do the flag glitch, when is true that normaly you get 369 inclusive with the TAS perfect framerule, how the best runs of the game do Is so hard to get the glitch and do 370 with it for a human In all case, yeah, and perfectly without the glitch
at a high level, most if not all runs have 380 undergrounds. runs that do the flagpole glitch in 1-1 finish the level with a 369 because the fpg loses an ingame second but skips the flag animation, so the split is still 21 frames faster than a normal 370 flag grab.
impossible and TAS if someone does it in RTA It can only be done in TAS because of fast accels
@That_one_kid, I see that you haven't submitted any runs so I would recommend getting a run down and then practicing 380 It isn't easy for someone who hasn't submitted a run yet Why: When someone learns hard strats and keeps grabbing more info and completing more strats without having a pb, that can come hard on them, causing them to have more struggle with their runs So I recommend getting a pb down :)
Mruns05 I have been practicing runs for half a year. Just because I haven't Submitted a run doesn't mean I don't have a pb. I have a pb of 6m 38s. I was simply asking if I could get a 370 on 1-1.
Why do you need to have a sub 6 to go for 380? It doesn't matter when you start going for it, but it's just recommended in general to just stick with no/low-reset runs.
Getting a 380 in the underground only saves one framerule, and sometimes getting a 379 can put you on the same framerule as a 380. You absolutely do NOT need to reset over not getting a 380 until you're going for a sub 5. You're best plan of action is to try to get a deathless run without going for particularly fast strategies, and never reset for the first few runs even if you lose a ton of time. Once you get a deathless run, you should try to replicate that run but clean up mistakes, and don't add in faster strats until you have a very clean run with safer strats.
A 370 is definitely possible; but don't be discouraged by 369. I would say though if you're going for a 5minute or less run as a goal if you end up slower than that (let's say 368 remaining) I would probably reset at that point. If you're going for a personal best time though, don't worry about it.
Also, in general, there is nothing more discouraging than a runner telling somebody not to practice doing something. Nobody needs to have a specific time down in order to learn a new skill. If you want to learn things like pipe lip jumps, backwards bumps, etc. go for it. Have fun doing it as well. It's fun to learn new tricks like that.
Thank you guys for the helpful info! I'll use your advice to improve my strats!
Effective immediately, any submissions using the SNES9x emulator will not be verified. The SMB1 mod team has concerns about its integrity due to its ability to overclock and remove lag frames, which may not be easily detectable. Additionally, we request that all BizHawk submissions avoid using the S
