I understand emulating games is a controversial topic, but this is an 11 year old game and Nintendo isn’t making any new copies, they don’t profit off of used game sales and I don’t have a spare £50 to buy an 11 year old used game. I understand that loading times would differ, but they already differ between Wii and Wii U, and it’s not like this is a particularly popular game to speedrun, so what’s the harm in allowing emulators?
Some emulators have an issue with certain games like Flock step or Micro-Row and lag a lot, even if that's corrected, some analysis has to be done to verify loading times are not faster than a physical/VC version.
Yeah my emulator isn’t great with micro row and flock step, however it doesn’t (as far as I’m aware) cause issues with the timings, it just causes the screen to black out so you just play those sections blind, not ideal but it doesn’t really cause any advantage or disadvantage. Obviously I don’t have a physical copy to test but aren’t the loading times already different on the Wii and Wii U versions? I guess one option would just be to compare loading times to the Wii and add/subtract the difference accordingly
I mean, for games like Minecraft, they retime the runs so that loading screens aren’t included so that is possible. But then again, this is a fairly small community so it might be hard. Who knows :/
I just realised that the eshop in fact still works for Wii U so I’ve been able to get the game for a reasonable £20 instead of £100. As it turns out my emulator has been running on a 20 second delay so all my inputs are way early so I basically have to relearn the game… but I’ll try for a run eventually (I still think emulators should be allowed though)
The main issues I can think of for allowing emulation for more modern consoles are: -Potential emulation inaccuracies (general differences/bugs) -Loading time differences (the counterargument of manually retiming without loads is ok but is it worth all the extra work?) -Better controller options (on official releases you're locked to wiimote which makes it even for everyone, but on emu you can use whatever you want for a potential advantage) -Emulator options (potential enhancements like increased framerate mods or quality enhancements or improved audio settings idk) -Input lag difference (could be better or worse but either way it's gonna be more inconsistent most likely) -Losing the "purity" (aka allowing non official hardware, not a super strong point but still something that a lot of communities consider)
On a different note, whoa I didn't realize how expensive this game had gotten (the physical copy). I still thought that wii/ds games were all really cheap. I guess the accessibility of this game has been locked more onto the Wii U VC, which is also a console not a lot of people have.
But either way, I haven't heard of any community that allows emulator for wii games yet, and these are the points I can think of for against it.

I still think the rhythm heaven games should be able to run on emulators, especially on Rhythm Heaven and Rhythm Heaven Fever, since the emulator is actually the one who suffers with the very very slightly longer loading times.
