Hi there,
I wanna start running NFS series, and I choosed Carbon as a starting point. As a new runner, I have some questions about this game. Here they are :
-
Is Collectors Edition eligible to any categories already existing ?
-
Is Windowed Mode authorized ? See here for details : http://www.nfscars.net/carbon/file/19800/
-
Is a Challenge Series category possible ?
- After some researches, I didn't find anything exclusive in Career Mode. So I think the answer is Yes.
OK Grim, thanks for the reply.
Well, Challenge Series was a simple idea cause I've seen it on Most Wanted. It only makes sense if we consider pursuit challenges, in which we have to escape as quickly as possible after completing goals. But then, it's not necessary, so no problem.
Then, you make think about a new question. You're talking about patches. Are the official 1.3 & 1.4 patches authorized ? They fixed some bugs and online features (completely useless in our case).
That's just to make sure everything is good with my runs.
OK. I saw you did this on ProStreet with 1.0 and 1.1.
IMO, those patches are OK. They do only fix some launching problems on XP, 2000 and Vista, and added some useful features online multiplayer. And I didn't find anything about glitches they could allow. So I think you don't need to create "versioned" categories.
But I'll let you judge and tell me what you think, when you have time to.

If it's just a couple new cars, then I don't see a problem. Mod could either restrict the version to CE only, or prohibit using CE cars.
-
If it only makes the game playable in windowed mode, then I don't see a problem either. I've used similar tool in my U2 run and haven't seen any differences in gameplay.
OK, thanks for the reply Ewil.
- Yes, it only makes the game playable in windowed mode. Game crashes more often, but that's it. No mods, no cheats. Just a DX9 plugin, and INI file to set On/Off windowed mode.
The crashes are probably caused by running the game on multi-core CPU. Run the game, set affinity in task manager to just one core and it shouldn't crash.
is this game still actively played by anyone? was wondering if any streamers still play it as i would like to start running it
-Thanks
Or if you can wait couple weeks, I'll show you better strats. There is much that can be improved in Grim's run.
Sub 2 hours is not possible unless you can somehow glitch races or skip cutscenes. I expect sub 2:15
Hey guys!
I am a long time competitive Need for Speed player and I am very good at several of them, including Carbon. However, I have never tried a speedrun before. Most competitive NFS players only go for record times on individual tracks (which we don't call speedruns) and not for fast career playthroughs. I am thinking about giving it a try in Carbon though, since the career there is not very long and I am curious how good you guys are here.
I have one question though. I see that people have some kind of software on the left side in their videos, which counts not only the total time but also the time for individual sections. How does that work? And is it required?
Ok, I see. Thanks. :)
I just did a first test run and it took me close to exactly 3 hours. I lost a lot of time though because I did probably 5 or more defensive races before I realized that I don't need to do them...
I also don't know yet what the quickest events in each area are and other stuff like that. I will probably watch the video of your record and then just try to do it the same way with slightly faster driving. :)
By the way, in the car comparison list that is linked in your guide the times for the Mazdaspeed seem to be mixed up. And which track did you use for that comparison?
What NFS games you play competitively? You could submit your records here, you know :)
EDIT: You might want to wait for my RTA run as it will be using faster strats than the current WR and a couple new tricks. I'm thinking about doing it this weekend if I manage to test everything I can think of. My segmented run is definitely cancelled since I've found out today I would have to redo half of it :)
