I've been developing this skip after encountering an accidental clip earlier today. It involves opening the gate just enough for you to fit in the gap and then jump with up arrow. It has to be done on the right side of gate to avoid spikes. You can grab the key in this room during the clip, but its tricky because its off the screen and guarded by spikes.
This is an amazing find! For now, I've added a variable to indicate if the run uses gate skip, in case we decide to separate clip & clipless runs in the future (and so people can view just one or the other, if they wish).
I've been looking into it a little bit, and it's not clear to me yet how much time it potentially saves... Also, it's not yet clear to me which gate skip route is best! You can get up with the gate on the other side of that big chamber, too, but I'm not at all practiced/fluid at the backtracking route to that gate. Hopefully I'll get to stream some testing sessions soon.
I think that this gate is best because it is earlier, and it could potentially grab the key on the way up and be even faster. Having to be on the right of it and the offscreen makes stuff like that quite difficult though.
Edit: was thinking of wrong gate, will test the one you mentioned. The one on the other side of the chamber isnt unlocked without taking a completely different route, and i think it clips you into the room on the left, but without a way out.
My initial thoughts on the other gate were incorrect. Here's an example of it being done. Ignore the timer, I messed with things to make it quicker to test.
One final discovery before I sleep. I found that if you grab with your arms as you rise with the gate clip, it's possible to escape the wall and teleport horizontally. I do not know what this is capable of.
