Hi i'm looking to get into speedrunning and was wondering what games are best for new speedrunners

What kinds of games do you like to play? The best game to start with is one that you would practice. If it stops being fun, you can always play a different game.

Pick a game you really like, one you don't mind playing for 8 hours a day.

most common ones are super mario 64: 16 star (20-30 min run) ocarina of time: no ace (20-35min)

personal recommendations: cat bird: marda ( 5 min mobile run) duke nukem (the first dos one ;D 8min platformer)

Go to my profile, i only run very easy, stupid games.

Gameboy kids games, fighting games with an any% cat, or really any game you think is interesting.

Depends, while some games are easier to learn than others, you should also consider games you like and/or played casually. Playing a game for a long time, even casually, helps eventually : you know how the game works, improvising is easier because you know the game, even a little.

Also, having fun, liking the game, it helps with motivation to do runs or try new strats / glitches i feel.

I also just started with speedrunning a game. I started with super mario 64 on an emulator (retroarch i use this because you can use a controller with it). Super mario 64 16 star is a easy to start with also includes some easy to learn glitches. Dont mind learning those for a while and get first runs around 1h30m or more. I have around 5 runs 16 star and i can complete the run around 1hr now. The most time consuming part is the staircase glitch and the last bowser. All the rest is just learning the mechanics of the games and learning your route to folow. You can always make adjustments to a route with stars you can get more easely. Also guides on youtube are a good way to start speedrunning super mario 64 16 star.

I recommend neon beats its very short which is good for new runners and you can get a good time without grinding to much.

If you guys like car games, Absolute Drift is a small easy game and it's really fun :D
