PS4 Version

Hey there, Rage here! I got into speedrunning recently and a few days ago a friend of mine told me Dark Cloud was in the PS store. Since I love that game I grabbed it in an instant, keeping a possible speedrun in mind. While casually playing through I'm taking notes and testing stuff.

So far: The broken dagger glitch works. (EU version, PS firmware up to date) I have not tested glitched menu yet. Possible shortened loading times because of PS4 hardware? Stuff.

I don't know about the PS4 versions framerate but I can provide a 60fps video. It should be pretty easy to spot if it runs at 50fps or 60fps. It definetly feels like 60 though. Somebody could compare certain animations like opening chests and such. I could also do a video with some loading zones if anyone is willing to compare that, too.

As far as glitches go: I couldn't get glitched menu to work but I didn't try for long. I will look into that again if I have the time. I couldn't get "good" broken daggers after increasing inventory space, only ones with partial negative attributes. I tried pretty much every possible cursor position. Is that a thing on PS2, too? I'm curious if glitched daggers keep their stats without beeing influenced by stuff like loading, moving, rebooting etc.. I was pretty sure I checked that all daggers I fetched were optimal but from time to time I found one with negative attributes among them. Sneaky.

By the way... how heavily influenced are the categories except Any% by glitched menu?

I forgot something, I'm sure of it.

I was thinking of speed running this game to as I have also bought it in the PSN store. Though the only glitches I have been able to get to work are the broken dagger glitch and the Early Chronicle 2 sword only.

My game auto-quits when I try the 108 floor glitch (which is needed to do the 100% run). It freezes/quits when I go to any dungeon and trust me I have tried every drop place I could (tried for 12 hours, it auto-quits or does nothing or I erase all progress and it starts the dungeon on floor 1). And the wrong warp glitch just doesn't work for me. (Tried all the ways I could find on youtube).

So if anyone knows how to get the 108 floor glitch to work on ps4 I would greatly appreciate it. :) As I would like to try to beat the 100% category.

To answer the other question, 100% uses the glitch menu for Demon Shaft. It uses the 108 dungeon glitch to skip straight to floor 100 to defeat the boss since there's no event cutscenes in that dungeon except on boss.

Thanks for answering! So only 100% and any% effectively benefit from glitched menu? I'm curious since the rules for town% says glitched menu is allowed except for warping. So what use is there in town%? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I honestly just don't know :) And you mentioned your game crashes when trying to enter a dungeon, does that mean you got glitched menu to work?

It seems like I accidently duped an item just now... I will look into this right away!

Edit 1: I'm beginning to understand how the vendor glitch works. Edit 2: Has anyone made a detailed explanation how the vendor glitch works? Edit 3: I actually figured out how to temporarily convert glitched items into other equipable non-automaticly used items.

Yes I have gotten the glitch menu to work. I have done the correct stuff for the warp I was trying to do but all the guides I can find are for PS2 not the 4 and it works a little different on the 4. So when I open the dungeon, I'm suppose to have blank spaces that I can scroll up to the actual floors, but for whatever reason on the PS4 it force closes the whole game. So I have to find a different pattern to the menu to make it work. (And I have tried for hours to no avail, but I will keep trying.

As for town%, I'm not sure what is required to complete that category as I know you have to have certain houses complete to get characters and boss keys items. And its mostly random on which floors all the items are on to make them. There is a video of the runners doing that so you can watch those but be warned that their like 8 hours long so make sure you have food and drink before you start them.

So that kind of answers your other question, that there are guides to navigate the menu but they are mainly for the PS2 versions and you have to tweak it a little for the 4. (There are no instruction for the PS4 version is what I'm trying to say.)

Like I know the any% wrong warp glitch works on PS4 cause there is a video of a guy doing it but he did not describe what he did or leave any instruction on how he did it.

Like how I have to get the glitch menu is first open the creation options menu (left part of the touch pad) and go down to manual. Then to georama. And last open "Walking in georama" then quickly close it once the words start popping up. Then I open Gaffer's shop and place the cursors on the 11th row of the weapons menu (Which is Osmond's weapon area) and then place the cursor on the gold bars in the shop. This part is tricky as it can freeze the game, I press Right, X, and R1 all at the same time. The item I grab is the glitch menu. But dropping it where the guides tell you doesn't work on PS4. This is where you have to experiment and it can cause some weird things to happen so I suggest saving before you try anything.

Yeah, I know how long it is. I finished my first run two days ago in 7:49:35 and I'm about to upload it. The only thing left is to cut around 30 minutes and WR here I come! You hear that iMoto!? :P

I will try to get the glitch menu working according to your description and have a go at the dungeons thingy. Can you make a video of accessing glitch menu?

By the way, I figured out how exactly the item vendor glitch works and this "11th row" is simplified crap. It has NOTHING to do with the cursor position at all. It's all about the position of your inventory's scrolling bar.

For example with Gaffer: Let's call the upmost position of your inventory ±0. If you now grab an item from Gaffer with Right+X you will notice that you grab the item opposite to it. So selecting escape powder will result in bread, bomb will result in stand-in-powder, ice crystal is dran's feather and gold is thunder crystal. This is the standard phenomenom and also works if you did not trigger the vendor glitch by accessing any menu BUT you will not get glitched items.

If you SCROLL down by one (not just one row but actually moving your inventory scrolling bar), you will notice a difference in what happens: Selecting stand-in-powder will now result in Escape powder, bomb will be dran's feather etc.. So scrolling down in your inventory "shifts" the Right+X behaviour by one down in Gaffer's inventory. Gaffer's inventory has six rows and glitch item's start to appear once you try to grab items "out of bounds". So scrolling down by six (which is the maximum of starting inventory) and grabbing the first item "escape powder" will be Gaffer's 7th inventory row. If you move your cursor down in Gaffer's inventory, you will also increase the "shift-value" by one.

The "perfect" broken dagger is located in Gaffer's +8 inventory position. So you can aquire it by scrolling down by six and grabbing the +2 item from Gaffer which is the ice crystal OR you can scroll down by five and grab the gold bar which would be +3 OR you can go to your weapon inventory and scroll down to the bottom which is +8 and then grab escape powder. BOOM perfect glitched dagger. It doesn't even matter in which of your inventories you are, it's all about how far you can scroll down.

Long story short, I'll not continue this in text form right now but if you're willing to take my english I can do a video of this for better understanding.
