Change name for runs with alternative ending
1 year ago
Svalbard and Jan Mayen

Hi everyone,

Current maeeeeee 10-minute run is not "Any%" and should be listed in another category.

The problem is that for this ending you do not get achievement "All’s Well That Ends Well" (for game completion) so technically game is not completed.

Achievements triggers are set by game developers and Steam gives you achievements base on those triggers. So if you don't get achievement, then it means that game is not finished from the developers perspective.

She did a great job finding bunch of really interesting techniques, but this is not Any% run in a common sense.

If I mistake and you get achievement for this ending, then I apologise. I have only information from one person who also followed this ending and did not get achievement.

Best regards,

You do get the achievement.

Svalbard and Jan Mayen

Any proofs from someone who got achievement for alternative ending?

Because I'm playing 4 persons co-op and we are far from any ending. I can check this maybe in 1-2 months.

Here are proofs from my friend. He got alternative ending Aug, 7 (https://prnt.sc/wTIY2IXfkDGB), and got achievement for completing the game on Aug, 13 (https://prnt.sc/vRwD234WEEdP).

The main goal is to reach the credits, right? Why should we rely on some achievement triggers?

@verborum , let's community to decide, but I always consider "Any%" as a category when you should complete the game / kill final boss / trigger last cinematics etc.

If Larian do not consider alternative ending as a game completion, so why should we?

main goal is to reach the credits

In some games you can reach credits by clicking "Credits" in menu.

@Alukret in some games in the game you can change the values in the RAM and get the credits at the very beginning of the game, and this usually works. In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for example. Why do we consider achievement triggers to be some kind of indicator?

Your menu example is obviously trolling.

@Alukret I can confirm (but can't upload a screenshot at the moment) that you get the "Hero of the Forgotten Realms" achievement for this alternate ending. Not to mention the fact that the credits roll, as mentioned by others already. Its not as if this is just a cutscene that leads into a game over screen

Current community consensus is that this counts for Any% and I would consider this consistent with other games' Any% categories as well. Considering No Gale is a category, this ultimately comes down to semantics. If there's significant dissent surrounding the naming of the category in the future, we'll open it up to a poll.

Svalbard and Jan Mayen

Finally finished Act 2 today :D

@OldMateJohn , yes, with Gale nuclear blast ending you get achievement "Hero of the Forgotten Realms", but you do not get achievement "All's weel that ends well" (finish the game). Also we didn't get "Critical hit" (complete the game in Tactician mode). So the game is not finished.

So "Any%" is current "Any% (All acts)" and current Any% is an "alternative ending" category and they should be swapped at SRC to give "All acts" more priority. That's just my opinion.

P.S. I even don't understand why you were assigned as a "Hero of the Forgotten Realms", because narrator told you that army of Mindflayers will be born soon and they will enslave everyone. So it's a bad scenario, some sort of losing.

Sex% now has version subcategories

Hi all,

It is a sad, sad day in the Baldur's Gate 3 sex speedrunning community. Due to Patch 4 significantly changing Lae'zel's romance requirements, any runs performed on Patch 4 and above will never* be able to beat runs performed before the patch. As a result, the category is now split into two
