Current rules/categories seem confusing or do not represent how the runs are timed.
Right now we have two categories: Any% and Any% Glitchless. The proposal is to drop Any% Glitchless category because:
- (Depending on the definition) there are no known glitches
- No definition of a Glitch for this game. Is Cove underwater door a glitch?
There is a confusion for new runners. For example, @GustavoPredador put this run https://www.speedrun.com/atle/run/yv601o8z to the glitchless category ( https://www.speedrun.com/atle/thread/7hbtv/1#1fw42 ) while everyone else (no other Glitchless runs at the moment) uses just Any%.
The current rules are:
- Time starts when loading screen disappear.
- Time ends when you complete level and your screen turns black.
This definition is vague (many questions in https://www.speedrun.com/atle/thread/7dt38 ).
The proposal is to change the rules to:
-
Time starts on the first frame of fade-in from the black screen after the loading screen Reasoning: loading time can differ, but the fade-in time seems to be the same on different platforms. Defining the exact frame where the time should start will remove vagueness.
-
Time ends on the frame when the screen "letter-boxes" on finishing the level Reasoning: as @WagnerBrasil pointed out in question 2 of https://www.speedrun.com/atle/thread/7dt38/1#uoks1 in Ice Trial it is not clear when the time should end with the current rules. Additionally, in full-game runs level splits are usually done when the letter-boxing occurs (current top runs: https://www.speedrun.com/atle/run/yjl6xodz , https://www.speedrun.com/atle/run/mrqv602y , https://www.speedrun.com/atle/run/y255ndjy )
Any ideas?
