Save state boost start allowed?

After 7 hours of attempts on a track, I'm a bit fed up with how much time is wasted getting the boost start au naturel. I think we can agree the point of the TT times is the piloting, not the boost start, and spending approximately half your time trying to nail the frame perfect boost before you can even begin a lap is just a catastrophically lame experience (and makes for awful viewing on Twitch...), especially when the later games in the series make it much easier to get.

What are thoughts on allowing to save state the boost start to forgo the timesink tax and focus on the actual TT laps themselves?

Here is an example of the type of saved start that I think would be acceptable for TT runs:

State is saved after the throttle input, and before GO

But I have seen records posted already whose video doesn't begin until the start line, long after GO. So maybe more leniency is acceptable?

Nah, that’s cheating bud!

Hi, I just noticed this post. No save states allowed, sorry. If your interested, the neGcon controller lets you get the fast start easily with it's analogue throttle.

Thanks for the responses from both of you.

This is unfortunate to hear, because I did notice in some videos that analog throttle looks like a virtually guaranteed boost start. A friend and I have been trying to bind analog throttle in emulator, but it simply isn't working, only steering seems to work.

In one of my last streams I bound a hotkey to log timestamps of resets, so I was able to analyse how much time I spend per reset ... here are some stats:

  • 127 resets total, 38m 10s session time
  • 98 resets at failed start (77% of all resets)
  • 16m 20s time spent doing start resets (43% of all time spent playing)

Over 40% of playing time being spent resetting for boost start is just ... well, I think it speaks for itself. Suffice it to say it's strongly discouraging and siphons time away that could have been spent actually improving the runs themselves.

It would be nice to have saved boost allowed to level the playing field with physical neGcon controllers.

This post brings up a good point. Future records should show the countdown up to the "go".
