No, with L+R the fastest time is a 4:54.032 and with no L+R it's 4:54.265. What you're thinking of is PAL. With L+R in PAL you can get a high 4:51 and with no L+R you can get a 4:52. This is a TAS I made of PAL with no L+R, it is actually a 4:52.2 because the 8-4 is 2 frames slower than the fastest possible no L+R 8-4

Without TAS FFPGs the fastest time is a 5:01.9, iirc you need 2 FFPGs to get sub 5 on PAL

You can clip into the floor after the pipe but that doesn't serve any purpose in a speedrun

The FFPG in this video is not as fast as you think it is, atleast compared to NTSC. If you were to get a perfect FFPG with this method it would only get a 30.00 split, where as NTSC gets 29.3 with flagpole glitch. PAL human theory is a 5:01.997 and record 5:07.977 (Held by the uploader of the video you linked, JoshKeys) So to say that 4:53 is humanly possible is a very very far stretch. PAL FFPG was done on an NES controller by threecreepio which yes would be faster than NTSC but to do these inputs (L,R,L+A,R, and that's not even taking into account for the fact that you'd need correct subspeed and stair inputs) mulltiple times in a run for 4:53 would be ludicrous.

PAL TAS is actually 4:51, 4:55 is the TAS timing. Also your description of how difficult 1-2 floor clip is not entirely accurate. 1-2 clip saves 2 framerules at most. With no slowdown, and considering you're using Pallsson, you can jump on frame 105 and do a 19 frame jump, or you can jump on frame 111 or 112 and do a 15 frame jump. Also you don't have to press left for the clip, that would actually be slower because you would need to scroll the screen further to enable the warpzone. I could see 1-2 double framerule save being used in runs being a very realistic possibility. Also the inputs for ffpg have been done on an official NES controller by threecreepio. PAL record is 5:07.977 by JoshKeys and PAL Human Theory is 5:01.997. Also I need to strongly strongly clarify that just because PAL FFPG inputs have been done does not make it realistic in any way to be done in a run.

The thing about PAL is that the TAS is in fact faster than the NTSC one. However to get a time as good as the TAS (a 4:51) you need to get multiple Full FlagPole Glitches which require an L, R, L+A, R wiggle for pole inputs. Without these absolute ludicrous wiggles the human theory is only 1 frame faster than a 5:02. But to answer your question, yes PAL is allowed for runs, current PAL record is 5:07.997 iirc

455.16 is the TAS timing. RTA timing starts when you gain control of Mario but TAS timing starts on power on iirc. 4:51.69 isn't the best time as the TAS uses L+R, but yes the best time would be something around that but the chances of doing PAL pole inputs for ffpg (L,R,L+A,R) 5 times in a run + playing the rest of the game is just.... no.

Ye I noticed this happening sometimes when I was doing 1-1 ffpg and this is how you do it: Hold B, the direction opposite you're facing, and A. At around the apex of your jump you release the direction you're holding and then a few frames after you release A + B and when you land on the ground this should work. I'm not sure if you need to hold B, but I've never done it without so it's either required or I'm just bad lol. If my tutorial doesn't help then I've uploaded this YouTube video w/ input display

ye i had a pretty good run and then it all came crashing down at joshakazam, i didnt fail once yet i got rejected EVERY TIME. also in another run i made it to 7-2, beat the boss fight, and then my game softlocked :)

Irelandultra_exists4 years ago

How do the Joshakazam segments work? I make it to the end and half the time it doesnt count :/
