Check out these cool speedruns! They may not have made their way to the current leaderboards, but that doesn't mean they won't in the future!
Oh. I supposed to make a video on that awhile back. I shall do that here in a little bit and have an in depth tutorial made posted to https://shiningforce-sr.com/ this evening.
Wouldn't be an issue at all. Most platforms run a similar reset system which is why playing on virtual console can be a slight time loss, but nothing too disheartening. With the game coming out on most newer consoles, I'm sure there are more that aren't on the page as of right now and I'm sure there will be more added in the future. It is definitely something to keep an eye out for and point out when noticed.
Whoops. I forgot that the idea was to get Hein grinded in scenario 10, not 9. Although I figured that with Cherie using fireball that she may continue to use it like other characters, but I'll trust your judgement that she chooses to do some weird attacks here and there. Scenario 10 is the Aaron fight with a couple mages, no? I suppose it doesn't matter which one you are grinding with? I also can't remember if that is a victory condition to kill Aaron or kill all. I thought it was to defeat Aaron, but if that were the case, then I would think he would get in the way of grinding Hein there? I thought he was quite aggressive.
I think with doing the Liana grind I was able to get roughly on a 5:30 pace with the light route, but fumbled it a couple battles after losing Liana. Those battles are quite a pain there. It is probably better to get Hein to teleport us throughout the game for simplicity sake. Seemed like going away from the light route was the right choice, I am just going to need to go through all those imperial battles again.
I do envy the New Legend route being able to keep Liana though. I will probably look to getting into a run or 2 of those sometime in the near future. That cursor movement and other time save is just too nice.
Oh wow. Didn't realize someone had gone through and checked some things. Thanks for the feedback. Didn't even think about grinding Hein off of Cherie in Imperial 9, which I think is probably the best route...maybe? Losing Liana for the few battles after light 13 is rough. Dark Princess in 15 more than anything. I would imagine trading that off for a slow scenario 6 would be more than fine. 7 and 8 go plenty smoothly and then it just kinda depends on how fast it takes to grind Hein in 9. Might not be too bad though. I haven't gone through the battles after that though. Any recommendation on which paths for the later half?
So I was thinking about routing the game with no codes (Yeah all 20 hours or so) and was here to see if anybody had any thoughts on what in game decisions may be the best directions to go in. While only playing this a couple times and taking the evil path every time, it may not be fastest way for completing the game. With the different major paths and lots of minor paths within the game, it's hard to tell which is better without going through ALL of them. For starters, everything will be a rough estimate, but maybe somebody has some better guesses at what paths to choose or not choose in this case?
Although I am pretty unfamiliar with the changes between PC gameplay and console gameplay, the PC version is definitely accepted.
Heyo, new runner here. I have realized that my game (ROM) runs slower than every other runner that I have seen run the game. After seeing the SM64 logo appear at roughly 1.33 seconds, my first textbox for the game appears at roughly 58s when everyone else I have seen gets their textbox at roughly 55s and I'm not sure why. I have used both Mupen and PJ64 with 2 different ROMs and still have gotten the same result. Maybe this is a common issue that I don't have the knowledge of. For the record, I have changed the ROM settings to have Counter Factor to 1 and Memory size to 8mb. I don't recall changing any other settings. Anyone know of this issue?
I believe we are in need of some other moderators to accept and deny submissions as well as helping out the community with their questions. I have been very inactive and sometimes won't be on for multiple weeks at a time. I understand the frustrations of not getting your submissions up and accepted as it can make runners feel that there is no point in continuing to run if their runs appear to not get accepted anyway. I would like to make it very clear that we want everyone to feel accepted and that runs do get submitted multiple times a week, so being active would be quite helpful. That being said, I'd like to get some other moderators that are on the site on a weekly or daily basis. I have gotten some messages about adding more full and half mods, and I am more than happy to add a couple of both. Feel free to say what role you would feel most comfortable with and I will plug you in. Changes can be made longer down the line as well if certain ones don't work out, but for now I believe everything will work out just fine. More the merrier.
PS. Thank you for those that have been VERY patient. I never expected so many runners of Ao Oni and you are all killing it. Keep it up!
There has not been any Gamefaq documents for a tutorial/walkthrough or guide through the game, however if you are interested in learning about the game specifically and want a walkthrough on top of it, there is a Castlevania strategy guide that you can buy that gives some nice little secrets. With the speedrun, I'd recommend checking out Tyderium's tutorial series on Youtube for completing certain tricks and battles within the game. They are very useful. There are also a lot of Twitch.tv clips of the game from various runners that involve alternative tricks, bugs, game crashes, etc that you won't really find anywhere else. And the most important thing I could recommend is just to ask. Almost everybody in the CV64 community would love to help others learn the game. I don't know any of the top runners that wouldn't be interested in helping out when it's needed. Don't be afraid to ask questions, it's more than welcoming. Good luck!
So CV64 has yet to see a finished TAS run for Carrie and I wanted to post this to see if anybody has the skills to make this happen. I wish I could pull it off myself, however I don't necessarily have the skills for TASing and I don't think I could devote time towards making it, which has been the case with previous TASers. You can see a pretty decent TAS made quite awhile ago that was able to make it half way, but can somebody take it all the way?
So in a lot of games their are some that have a New Game and New Game + Category. I ran into a problem with a game I ran and noticed that after the game is beaten, you are able to skip a puzzle you do the next time you play, and the only categories for the game are Any% and 100%. Do you think the puzzle is or isn't required for Any%? The run submitted did the puzzle and other submissions are being sent in with the puzzle being skipped. Which is the correct action?
Hey, I was wondering if I could become a mod in Castlevania 64 since I have been the most active with the game for quite some time. I tried to talk to Cosmo about it a couple weeks ago, but I didn't get a reply.
