Beat levels 1-20 from the “PLAY” button on the main menu. Video is required. Using codes is banned.

Time starts upon clicking “PLAY”. Time ends upon the congratulations screen appearing after beating Level 20.

I made a spreadsheet here for the Top 100 players at the end of every year, 2002-2018: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tWwgIJ1kIyy7XtYsqGEJsiI1ERYLMl41B9i4eBDgdg4/ You can also use the spreadsheet as historical leaderboards.

I want to ask what runs should be added. There's a few on Twin Galaxies pre-SRC, plus there was 5:06 tied WRs along with some others mentioned in a TG article, and there could be some early PBs not on SRC. Also what point system should we have? I don't want to punish early players who became active, but without a point decay they would probably all be on top, with AndrewG winning by a landslide. Maybe an adjustment for years before the game reached 100 players?

I made logarithmic point values, or we could go with the-elite.net points (100 for 1st, 97 for 2nd, 95th for 3rd, 1 less point for each place after that)

edit: If the link doesn't work, try this https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tWwgIJ1kIyy7XtYsqGEJsiI1ERYLMl41B9i4eBDgdg4/edit#gid=0

I don't mean date format in user settings, that doesn't change it on the main leaderboard pages. How would you view all the times as dates instead of by how long ago it was? That would make it easy to view runs by each year.

I know it's originally a Teletoon show but the game is on Cartoon Network's website and Cartoon Network was the other major station for the show. This is also the first Total Drama game on the site as far as I know.

Hello everyone, I'm your new moderator, Meester Tweester! I was asked to be on board to help fix some of the issues with the leaderboards. As a Day 1 post as moderator, here are some of the things that will change, or change in the future.

New rules:

  • WR runs need video proof. Top 3 runs for SMB1 Any% and SMB1 Any% NG+ need video proof due to their popularity. While not needing to record is convenient, it runs into issues in modern speedrunning. There have been cases in the past where some runs have not been timed properly, and without a video we can't check that. Plus, anyone can claim they got a WR or top time without proof, which allows for cheating. This rule will be effective tomorrow, July 17th, 2019. Any runs before the date will currently remain on the leaderboards.
  • Emulators are allowed. Using a Flash player instead of using a website usually has no issues for webgames. Technically they aren't emulators since they are running Flash, not emulating it. You can still check the Emulator box if you run from a Flash player. Plus, Flash is shutting down literally next year.
  • Also, I added in World 9 for ILs to complete Lost Levels.

Issues being put up to a vote in the Discord: I am putting these up to a vote since these are more drastic changes and I want people to voice their opinions on the matter if they want to. These will be up to vote for a week, so it will end on July 23rd, 2019. You can join the Discord on the sidebar or here: https://discordapp.com/invite/Sze2JTH React with thumbs up or thumbs down to vote.

  • To show how popular each category is, I counted the sum of players in each category. Sum of players means you can be counted multiple times for multiple characters. You can see which ones have few or 0 runs. https://i.imgur.com/dXQM4Dg.png
  • Merge Hard subcategories into the normal subcategory. Let's face it, lots of subcategories in this game are empty. We can merge categories together and add a difficulty value so you can still sort by only Hard difficulties (or Normal or Easy). The Kaizo Pack will be moved into All 3 Level Packs.
  • Remove 1.0 categories. Adding 1.0 is a little much, especially since only 2 people have ran it for full game. We can stick to only the current version.
  • Remove All Cheats. It has 0 runs, and the grind for one run of the category would be incredibly long. It can always be suggested and added back in later if there is enough interest.
  • If these pass, the idea is to have the following 11 categories for full game: SMB1 Any%, SMB1 Warpless, SMB1 Any% NG+, Lost Levels Any% 8-4, Lost Levels Warpless 8-4, Lost Levels Any% D-4, Lost Levels Warpless D-4, Special Any%, All 3 Any%, All 3 Warpless, and All 3 All Stages.
  • Any runs in a removed category can be recorded onto a spreadsheet for preservation.

Issues: Here are some other noted issues we can go over in the future.

  • IL timing is inconsistent
  • A ton of IL categories with only a few with runs
  • Some runs are not reviewed properly

In Battle For Dream Island Again 5b, we are using IGT for ILs and RTA for full game. Since the default timing method is IGT, it makes it so that full game runs show by IGT PBs and not RTA PBs. Is there a way to change the default timing method for single categories? Should we remove the IGT from full game runs and put them in the description?

edit: I've since moved IGT to the description of full-game runs to fix the issue

I don't think RyanGames' IL runs use the timing that the rules. The rules say time from the start of the lives screen to when it cuts to the next level's lives screen, but he only times fromwhen gameplay starts to the flagpole, it looks like. https://www.speedrun.com/smbc/run/zn45633m

edit: Also World 9 for Lost Levels is missing from the IL categories (9-1, 9-2, 9-3, and 9-4.)

Now for Simple Loop, Flashing Bars, and subsequently 5 Tracks, now you can clarify if your run had the lap bug where missing a checkpoint made your lap not count. I have already set the variable for every run on the leaderboards so far with available video. I also added people's personal best of the category with or without it in case it wasn't on the leaderboards. You can also sort by only those with, or only those without. Also I updated the rules for all the categories and sub categories that it affects to fit the new rules.

I will just be tracking Any% Current Patch for now unless another category/patch becomes more major. Please tell me if you see an inaccuracy in here. The first few days were hard to track because they were before the leaderboard and the world record changed fast. Also I have thoughts about doing ILs too but have only written up the full game for now.

Zero Deaths world record progression (times are without loads)

Here are some other early potential world records that are off the leaderboard. Some of these are unverified, have major issues that would not make them official (although these likely weren't cheated), use different timing methods/rules, or their dates make them hard to put into the world record progression. Tell me if you find any more early speedruns. Note that these could actually be world records so they are a good side note and may be added into the progression in the future.

I noticed slippy's PC run had a much lower time than my Web run even though we were using the same strategies. I compared my splits to his run and even with the same gameplay I was a few seconds slower. I downloaded the PC version and sure enough, it was running faster, and I got a gold split on every world.

I even downloaded the .swf file from the web and when playing through a .swf player it still had the same slow time. So, it seems that the PC version is faster. It shouldn't be banned or anything, this is just a PSA for what version is fastest and how I noticed the Web version is slower. You can try it yourself and compare splits between the two or comparing my Pam 6:02 and slippy's Pam 4:59.

(this is incomplete and can be updated later) v1 (Jan. 14, 2019): Introduction and katyj98’s Speed Challenge

Introduction

BFDIA is the second season of the American animated web series Battle For Dream Island. BFDIA stands for Battle For Dream Island Again, named after its continuation of the first season. The fifth episode of Season 2 was conceptualized with a much longer plot than usual, leading it to be sectioned into parts, turning it into an epic spanning most of 2013. BFDIA 5a was uploaded on January 2nd, 2013. At the end of the episode, some characters were consumed by Evil Leafy. At the end of the month on January 31st, it was announced that 5b would be a interactive game, as opposed to a video episode.

BFDIA 5b was released on February 11th, 2013, with 33 levels in its initial release. The game is an action and puzzle platformer, continuing the plot of the previous episode, with Book waking up shrunken down in Evil Leafy and setting out to find her friends and escape. The game has one collectible, a Win Token in every level, usually hidden in an area hard to reach safely.

Fans excitedly played the game, as it was a continuation of the plot and the first time part of the series was an interactive game. However, the game got a reputation among its players pretty quickly. The puzzles were hard to figure out, some of the platforming was difficult, and many levels had Win Tokens players couldn’t touch or find. A large percent of the players did not complete all the levels, with even more unable to collect every Win Token. While it was a fun game and was the only way to play as some fan-favorite characters, one thing was clear: this game was hard.

katyj98’s Speed Challenge - 2013

No one speedrunned the game at first. Many players couldn’t beat every level, much less quickly complete them. However, there is one part of the game’s early history that’s important to note when considering the history of the game’s speedrunning.

katyj98 is a YouTuber from Singapore that was prominent in the object show community at the time due to his BFDI Trivia series. He had the knowledge and skill to beat all 52 levels released so far. (Note that while more levels are planned to be made, no new levels have been updated into the game ever since Level 51 and 52 were added on February 25th, 2013.) Kat created the Speed Challenge, with a goal of beating all 52 levels in 1 hour. He streamed his gameplay on June 2nd, 2013 via Google+ Hangouts, saying he wanted to beat his record.

However, he also tried to collect every Win Token he could, and die as less as possible. After all, Win Tokens collected, time payed, and number of deaths are the three statistic shown on the level select screen. So, he set out with the goal of finishing with those statistics as good as possible. He used a formula to calculate a score, “(200 - Time taken in minutes) ÷ Unnecessary deaths x Number of Win Tokens you get.” So since he was playing to maximize his score and only collecting some of the Win Tokens (as opposed to all or none), the challenge didn’t quite align with what are the speedrunning rulesets today. However, it is still an early case of playing the game with the intent of speed, and the video of it is in fact the only time a playthrough of the whole game was done in a single video/seating before 2018.

He told his viewers to see if they could beat his score while waiting for the next episode. At the end of his run, the final in-game time was 1:17:48.9. He didn’t reach his goal of 1 hour, but the run was still good at the time, and the video was met with good reception. As Bacon-lover101 commented, “Wow, you are a pro at the game. #VideoGameSpeedPros”. And after that, no one speedrunned the game for a few years.
