The vanilla All Advancement discord has seen multiple posts of completed BaC AA runs, I'm not sure how well the videos of those runs have been preserved and could be submitted.

The times I can find are:

Hi. I'm sadly unable to provide sound or view of my mouse because I'm unable to record video or audio from the real world. I wanted to ask if I could still perform runs of categories with less competition (e.g. 1HC v2.0) under the following restrictions:

  • Submitted as "Fast Click"
  • Never obtains the "Uncanny Clicker" achievement (which I'd prove at the end)
  • Clicking pattern being obviously not autoclicker Asking because even if I got say like a 12 hour time it might still be considered a "top time" just because there's so little competition there. Thanks for reading

For the last month, I've been trying to reach the moderators by

  • attempting to find a non-expired invite link for the original Discord server
  • making forum posts
  • writing contact requests into the notes of submitted runs
  • messaging a moderator
  • setting up a second Discord server and informing the moderators about it. These attempts have been unsuccessful. How can I talk to the moderators about important issues regarding the speedgame, such as
  • having a place to talk (a Discord server with an invite link that actually works, and that people realize exists)
  • considering improvements to the leaderboard structure and the number of similar categories
  • getting assured that submitted runs will be verified, even if it sometimes takes 4 weeks
  • staying up to date with what new categories are being run that don't have a leaderboard yet?

Hi. As you have probably noticed, the invite link for the first LoR speedrun server has expired, and no steps have been taken to produce a permanent invite link for the same server.

So for the time being, I've made a new, different server which will have a permanently functional invite link: https://discord.gg/cTnSG5Rspn

If the old server gets recovered through a permanent invite link, the two servers will likely merge.

60 categories seem like a bit too much to sustain competition, and indeed we see almost exclusively runs for the easiest and the hardest categories. In addition to moving the runs to an IL board, removing intermediate difficulties could help make the game more competitive and orientable.

This would follow a precedent set by Age of Empires I, II DE (formerly also II but there even easiest was removed), Anno 1404, and probably many similar games.

Personally I have no intentions of uploading or even recording any further Hard and Heroic playthroughs that I go through to unlock Legendary mode, and I've deleted my submission of Riven on Heroic to speed up the verification of runs that I actually care about.

GermanyIwerSonsch3 years ago

With a full 60 different categories, the Lab of Legends tab is becoming very cluttered, and it is really hard to check for what categories have runs and what don't (let alone which ones have new WRs). Since Lab of Legends runs are specified by 2 main variables - champion and difficulty - the Individual Levels table would be a very efficient way to handily display all of the records.

Below that, it would even be possible to also add the tutorials ("challenges") as "Normal" difficulty, to unclutter the board even more.

In the latest update, it is not only possible to reroll starting powers indefinitely without resetting, but the rerolled powers will stay the same if you go back to the champion select screen and reselect your champion.

This lets you roll for the power you want indefinitely without the timer running, and then instead of starting the timer on power select like I resuggested yesterday, you can just go back to Champ select, start the run, and immediately select the desired power.

This obsoletes a small controversy while also helping make runs less reset-heavy.

Also please, if anyone who is in the Discord server could make a permanent invite link and post it on the game info, that would be appreciated.

I appreciate the wit to do a run that would also make sense under a completely different name, but:

  1. He didn't create the empty region, he merely entered it. If the area he sells as a "mined chunk" counted, then the leaderboard would be the same as Enter Nether, as that's when the first "mined chunks" on top of the Nether are generated.
  2. Taking any reasonable static reference point, for example the area of possible portal spawns, fortresses, bastions, most mineable blocks, mobs etc., the blocks that were left unmined in the chunk are not entirely enclosed in bedrock (they're not enclosed at all).
  3. Even taking Steve as a moving anchor (which is not justified by the rules), the blocks not mined are not entirely enclosed in just bedrock, but rather in a combination of bedrock and world border (which, by the rules, is not a valid completion of the goal).
  4. The run clips completely through a solid block which, while not normally major enough to break the framework of a "glitchless" speedrun, is definitely the main game-breaking glitch that makes this run an order of magnitude shorter than a run without this glitch would be.

Kinda sad cause I was hyping myself up for some really sick bed-based mining.

Hi! I do have one more request to my previous suggestion of a Single Experience subcategory: Since subcategories take up quite a bit of space and can become hard to navigate, I suggest changing both the XP Multiplier and the Wynncraft Version subcategories to non-obsoleting variables that can be filtered for (similar to currently the "Class" filter, but without the tick on "Values obsolete eachother").

As filter variables allow for significantly more options than subcategories without creating clutter, I also suggest allowing any XP multiplier to be added (e.g. 1.5x for Hunted, 4x for dxp weekend and dxb bomb and discord xp).

When working towards my long-term ambition of Level 1-50 No Bank, I thought of a set of categories that could serve as stepping stones, and also add some extra lore, diversity, and ultimately mandatory boss fights to the Wynncraft No Bank runs: All Dungeons and (secret) Discoveries of a region.

The subcategories I have in mind would be Wynn Plains (containing DS, IP, LS, and UC), Desert (containing SST), Tundra (containing IB), Wynn Province (containing the prior plus UR), and All.

Time would start on selecting a new profile for the first time (and thus starting the tutorial), and end when either the last dungeon is complete or the XP for the final discovery are added (whichever happens last).

I'm posting this now because I got very close to finishing a run of DnD Desert today, and plan on doing so soon (will post the run when it's uploaded).

Wynncraft allows in their rules the use of macros that turn a single button press into a three-click combo to cast a spell. This seems to me like a very big and healthy convenience, and I would suggest adding a link to such a macro in the Resources section (and ofc allowing them for speedruns)

cause I did some No Bank runs of it. Time ends when Sherk's text appears in chat:

Hi! I've been speedrunning this game for WR and WR improvement in the last few days and plan to continue doing so. Now since there isn't currently a double XP weekend going on, and XP bombs are pretty rare and inconsistent, it has felt to me like Single Experience is a very natural way to speedrun this game. I've read in an earlier post that if you got hit by an XP bomb during a Single XP speedrun, the run would inadvertently be ruined. I don't think so. Here's what workarounds I would suggest:

  • When a double XP bomb is active, you must either change servers or set your guild XP to 50% or higher. Setting your guild XP to 50% will keep all of the surplus experience away from you and instead transfer it to your guild.
  • If you accidentally receive experience from a mob or dungeon before taking those steps, you must set your guild XP to 100% until you've collected two more instances of that experience for your guild, and you may not complete the run or use your newly unlocked skillpoints/items/quests before you've done so.

What do you think?

GermanyIwerSonsch4 years ago

The rulebox for Star% still mentions collecting a "designated amount of moons", even though there is no more subcategory requiring that. Could you fix that?

Edit: Thanks. You can lock this now.

When we first introduced Glitchless/Exploitless, it was meant as a way to play the levels with strats closer to intended gameplay. Most importantly, we wanted runners to come up with ways of outplaying the AI lords without the house exploit, the multiple worker glitches, or the disbanding of hundreds of slaves/laddermen for insane amounts of taxes, however we didn't know that categories like "Bug Limit" exist in other speedgames so we decided to ban anything that we considered a glitch or exploit in the general case, and could also be reasonably banned without also hitting intended mechanics.

I don't know whether runners of this game might be deterred by the long list of things you're not allowed to do, when other games like Super Mario 64 allow you to perform a variety of glitches for minor timesaves. I could also imagine that it might be reasonable to strat and run a whole Crusader or Warchest trail full of Bug Limit completions, but it's unlikely that anyone would invest the time and effort into following every Glitchless/Exploitless rule in every level. Furthermore, runners may disagree on what is an exploit and what is not - for example, someone once challenged me to match their glitchless run which included no attacking before 5 minutes, but made very intentional use of blocking the workers' paths to flower gardens to dodge some of the productivity nerf. On the other hand, we allowed deleting structures for resources even when they were handed to you by the game, as well as stacking military units on towers/walls as sometimes troops will just do that by themselves and there's not much you can do to prevent that without using less options than the game gives you.

As a result, I'm suggesting to replace Glitchless/Exploitless with the less strict "Bug Limit" category encompassing only the most central restrictions:

  • No blocking an AI lord's castle layout with buildings
  • No allocating more workers than intended to any given workspace
  • No disbanding troops to collect taxes from above maximum peasants (above maximum being more than your houses support, more than your workspaces and your campfire support (the campfire supports 24), or both). Smaller glitches (e.g. waypoints across swamps to avoid slowdown) and exploits (e.g. moving and/or splitting the stockpile) would be allowed as they, while nice to have, don't really break the game. All Glitchless/Exploitless runs would remain valid as they satisfy those rules. Does any past, present or future runner want their Glitchless/Exploitless board to remain pure from runs that potentially beat their times using smaller glitches and exploits? If so, please reply.

This CE board currently looks quite cluttered. I suggest moving the smallest, most inactive, and/or most pointless of extra categories to a miscellaneous tab so they're still accessible but don't clutter as much.

Thoughts?

As the glitch that lets you skip most star doors, including the star doors required for Any% completion, I'm surprised that this glitch is allowed for exactly the purpose of skipping star doors in 115 star (e.g. at 2:38:17 in the WR), and I wonder what a 115 star run would look like without it.

What makes the rules for this game different from vanilla SM64 70 star where any glitch that lets you bypass star doors is banned?

GermanyIwerSonsch5 years ago

It was removed back in the day when it was the same as the Lake Any% IL. Now it's different, so please add it back

Currently, each category has two possible subcategories with "F2P" and "Purist F2P". While this does add some variety to the runner's options for their playstyle, it also unnecessarily increases the number of subcategories on the board.

Instead, a non-obsoleting filter option would keep those options on the board and the justification to run "Purist F2P" over the more liberal "F2P", while cutting the number of available categories in half, and making double-submissions of the same run a thing of the past.

Since it would be non-obsoleting to give a runner the option to run both Purist F2P and F2P, we would probably remove F2P runs that were obsoleted by a Purist F2P run. Alternatively, we could make the filter obsoleting.

There are two categories currently on the board that I never see anyone seriously running: Beating the extended levels in just one world from a new file, and beating the normal levels in a world from a preexisting file.

The normal levels, while in parts hard, should be feasible enough to just beat from a new file, and that's where the competition and the routing will be at. "Trivial Progress" NG+ would skip 20 minutes of the run and only be repeatable / allow file progress on 6 of the IL worlds, whereof 1-2 may still feature severe detours due to their difficulty. "Any Progress", on the other hand, is severely arbitrary (with no good F2P way to make it less arbitrary), and would take 10-20 hours of grinding just to set up an optimal file that will be unusable for almost all categories. All just for slightly faster builds - not worth.

The extended levels are (at least thought to be) so hard that it will take extended detours to gather up all the plants and bonuses for the builds that actually work. Doing this for just one world seems not worth at all, at that point you would probably just do an "All Levels" full-game run.

Extended levels NG+, however, may have a chance of eventually being run. Those are the few levels where using an NG+ file actually makes sense as even the "Trivial Progress" option will skip 1-3 hours of less challenging, and less reset-prone gameplay. "Any Progress" would be ready for a run after a finished "All Worlds" and "All Levels" run, without swarming the runner with 10 hours of trivial NG+ ILs. It would also see finished IL runs if "All Levels" ever gets run as "Purist F2P".
