Start with something you already played a lot with before and have practice to keep yourself familiar, and maybe do some casual play or do different challenges to keep things fresh if you want. Having the same routine can be stale, so I'd personally look into and dabble with different categories, or even make up something myself to play around with (that's why they're called games and it's why the term for interacting with games is 'playing'). Time itself can take its toll on an attention span, but I find looking for ways to keep things fresh helps a lot.

Has anyone here got any funny, crazy or any other stories involving good/bad/just plain loopy RNG?

I just started running Resident Evil REmake on the GC after watching a few, and was pretty lucky with the first mansion segment. The zombie spawns were quite merciful and even when I took a couple bites I dodged well, the Elder Crimson Head lunged immediately and happy days. I got past the dogs nicely at the courtyard...then got wrecked by the big shark guarding the Gallery Key.

Also Aragog is pretty annoying at times in Chamber of Secrets.

Whatever strikes my fancy when I look at my collection really. At the moment though I'm currently trying (and failing) to run Resident Evil REmake.

I'm sorry to hear that he received death threats and abuse over it, nothing warrants that in any community. It's just that cheating takes away from the sport of it, and it turns people off. Then again so does toxic behaviour in a community. Aside from that though, I do believe that people should get second and third chances, and I wish him well.

I think cheating should be boycotted, personally. Cheats strip themselves of respect and dignity, and tarnish the legit when they themselves did nothing wrong.

@JessicaSix

I don't mean to butt in or stir up conflict, but having seen how anal some people can get on the internet (which in itself causes and continues this vicious cycle resulting in making communities toxic), I would implore you to let go of whatever beef you might have with other people.

As for segmented runs, this should be separate from other runs, though I wouldn't begrudge it in really long games such as Digimon World 3 which is above 7 hours, or games which can be upwards of 10-15 hours. But to make things interesting, perhaps there should be higher rankings for such runs that have less resets. Perhaps make segments of approximately 2 hours long each?

Mine is 3:03:50 on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (GC, Any%). No footage though so I didn't submit it. Wasn't a fantastic run either, but fun to do and I hope to improve on it.

However, I do plan on doing a Golden Watering Can run of Animal Crossing: New Leaf in the future. That will probably be longer, and definitely a hell of a lot harder and with more RNG in it than Pokemon. Got the SD cards on me and wondering if I can save my casual data on one of them, and praying that luck will be at my side when the time comes.

I did a run on the GC without any footage a few weeks back, so sadly couldn't submit it, but there was a point where I was trying to dodge past the last prefect in the Slytherin Dungeons on Night 3. The camera changed to normal from the position used in stealth parts, when I got caught. No "Get back to your Dormitory!" message appeared or any loss of House Points occurred, so I thought I had softlocked, but luckily it loaded back to the point where Harry spawns after talking to Draco. Nothing unusual outside the fright I had there.

I'm also planning on doing a Founders' Card run (Any% with the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin cards), and I have a theory that you can just Flipendo the heads of the plants that grow the vines to get the Hufflepuff card. Hopefully I'll get some streaming done one day.

Welcome. :)

I personally recommend finding a path in the game you want to play, tracing it and going through it as quick as possible. Practice makes perfect.

Don't talk about Speedrun Club.

Nah, just messing there. :P Though in all seriousness there are some things that are probably best left out, such as politics and other topics where discussion can turn ugly. And showing decent human traits without seeking to be a prick for the sake of it doesn't hurt.

OK, I might have worded it pretty badly. But I was just saying that I prefer to see a decent portion of the game played through.

Glitch coding , making Pokemon possible to complete in the time to boil an egg or less. No battles, no training, no exploring routes, just from your house to the end of the game. There will be people who disagree and I apologise in advance, but I personally find it kills off the fun and the technique involved in playing the game.

Here's a strat of mine for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (GC) Any% which I confess is quite disappointing and will probably stop doing in future. The night when Harry returns to Hogwarts, and on Day 1 when Harry learns to fly his broomstick, using the shortcut between the Second and Fourth Floors can skip cutscenes with Nearly Headless Nick. Little to no time at all is saved when you return to Hogwarts, and the only worthwhile shave on my time was Day 1, which was a couple of seconds. Don't do it in Night 1 though; there is another cutscene skip but this one only lasts 10 seconds, meaning you lose 10 to 15 more seconds time anyway. I completed my run and got the time written on some paper (calculated against real time), but didn't get video feedback so couldn't submit it.

Just had a brainwave, could I just buy New Leaf again through the Shopping Channel onto one of the SD cards? Not sure if I need to erase my System Memory or not for it to work.

Ah, OK. Hopefully there will be more, and I'll start doing some when I get the chance too. Good luck though.

I was just looking into the categories and noticed that Pure Hero and Pure Dark runs only take the final stage into account; GUN Fortress for the Pure Dark category and Final Haunt for Pure Hero. Apart from that, you can go for whatever path and whatever boss.

With that being said though, how about a proposal for what I like to call True categories? By this I mean, with the Dark run you have to complete all the Dark missions, all Hero missions for the Hero run, and then there's the Neutral one. All Neutral missions is probably the norm here as the goal is always at the Goal Ring, so to make things a little more interesting for the Neutral run, maybe make sure Dark and Hero points are equal, or even no Dark or Hero points at all?

Looks like I might need to erase my System Memory. That or see if I can copy it onto one of the cards; I don't really want to lose Fortree, but then again I could always make another. Thanks though guys. =)

I went and bought some SD cards to save my Animal Crossing: New Leaf data that I wanted to keep for playing casually, so I can attempt some speedruns later. Should I have just waited until another copy of New Leaf showed up?

Getting hit by the ghosts in midjump at the Avifors Challenge on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (GC). That and some of the cutscenes.

RNG when it's being silly, but it has its good bits too.

Agree with KomradeKontroll here. Finding out that Saria has a crush on Link, then knowing they'll never be, destroys me every time. T_T
