I know it's been brought up before, but can someone please add Outbreak Survival categories? I went ahead and submitted a run, so that there would at least be one to start with (and it's verified in the Outbreak Easter Egg category already).

Outbreak Survival - Easter Egg [Solo] (55:00)

Despite also being a moderator on a game here I get confused with the setup for full games vs levels vs variables and what-not,, but I would imagine that the Full Game categories setup for Outbreak could just be duplicated for Outbreak Survival since they are all applicable for both. I'll even offer to add it if nobody else wants to take the time to do it.

Thanks!

Why do my runs for Lost in Nightmares that used to show "1st place" now say that they're "orphaned"?

What's confusing is that when you look at the leaderboards there are runs for both 1.1.0 and 1.2.0, which that part makes sense since LRT change was before the 1.2.0 patch.

But, what's really cool is the LRT runs from 6+ years ago. I honestly had no idea you guys were doing LRT back then. Here's one just as an example:

It's almost as if the runs with higher times were converted to being LRT, yet my previous WR runs are now "orphaned". While not at all surprising, I predicted this was going to happen the moment I saw the LRT change, it is disappointing. Watching you guys ruin, constantly, speedrunning of one of my all-time favorite games is the reason why I quit, but I think that was always the point. When runs from 7 or 8 years ago that were timed with IGT can just be magically converted to LRT, is there really any difference between them? No, not a meaningful difference to the players anyways.

I remember bringing up, multiple times, things that should actually be separated and was always dismissed. The first one that comes to mind was the Lost In Nightmares PS3/360 runs that were able to start with the SMG/frag and go OOB (example). You guys couldn't care less about there being new runs in the same category as ones done multiple console generations ago using glitches that were not only no longer possible but they significantly impacted the game. Years later you finally split out the console and PC version of the game and more importantly separated the generations with the "Console Group".

If RE5's in-game timer actually counted load times and varied depending on hardware, network performance, etc. then I could see someone advocating for it. When a game's IGT does not include load times, LRT is the same as IGT. The nearly decade old runs that magically were converted to LRT are proof of that. Just surprised that nobody seems to care about it.

If only my runs weren't that good they could have been automatically "converted" to LRT. Anyways, thanks for making my favorite accomplishments in speedrunning worthless.

Hey everyone,

Wanted to make a quick post about the changes for full-game runs and the rules that affect all runs. This sentence is really just a separator because having a greeting followed by a heading would look weird.

Summary

I went ahead and created new full-game runs that mirrored how the IL runs are setup. Unlike the old full-game runs, these are timed using the sum of the in-game times so long load times, network issues, ads, etc. will no longer count against you during full-game runs.

I tried to include everything I could think of to make sure that things are as fair as possible without much effort.

Previous Full-Game Leaderboards & Runs

The old full-game runs leaderboards have been archived (not deleted). This means new runs cannot be submitted to them as they are read-only. Your old runs, records, etc. are all still viewable and should show up on your profile.

Misc.

One last thing I wanted to mention, everyone has been doing a great job submitting runs starting with a new puzzle and including the results screen so thank you it makes verifying runs quicker and more accurate.

TL;DR

If you get a chance please check out the rules and let me know if you have any questions, feedback, suggestions, or whatever else.

I was looking at this game's trophies (for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place) and I remembered that I made transparent PNGs of the gauntlet medals a while back. So, I figured I'd share them in case anyone wanted to use them for something.

First off I want to say that nothing here is set in stone. I've wanted to add new categories and stuff to this game for a while now and I'm happy to finally have the time to do so. If you disagree with anything here, please feel free to let me know. Any suggestions or feedback, positive or negative, I would love to hear it.

My goal is to make sure that everyone can run the game the way they enjoy running it. Whether that be with hints or without, with mistakes, without mistakes, individual difficulties, and whatever else. The rules I've added were designed to support those play styles and there may be additional ones to be added, removed, changed, etc.

If you see something out of place, missing, etc. please let me know. You can message me directly, reply to this thread, or start a new thread.

Thanks, Trey (Gundwn)

Different categories for different playstyles and preferences. If you just want to rush through puzzles then Any% might be your thing. If you're like me and you want to try and solve puzzles then 100% is for you. Both Any% and 100% have w/ Autofill categories for anyone that hates manual note entry and wishes they could just skip to the good part (in my mind this is like the "No Intro" category for the Resident Evil 3 Remake).

Completing the puzzles as quick as possible is all that matters. This means that mistakes are allowed and speed is all that matters.

Accuracy is just as important as speed. Unlike Any%, mistakes are NOT allowed so think twice before guessing.

In addition to the two general categories there's also the w/ Autofill categories for anyone that prefers pre-filled notes. This category allows the Show All Notes setting to be enabled for anyone that likes to have notes pre-filled on new puzzles.

Sick of the same 9x9 grid layout? Enough with all of the neatly arranged rows and columns. Put the sh-, I mean, stuff, wherever. All categories mentioned above can also be done for the Irregular mode.

Full video proof of the run is required.

Starting a puzzle can only be done one of two ways:

1. After Completing a Puzzle

  • Selecting "Play Again" on the results screen

2. Abandoning a Puzzle

  • Selecting "Yes" on the abandon puzzle prompt

For "Individual Level" runs either of the above are allowed to show that the puzzle completed was not previously shown/started.

For "Full Game" runs the first difficulty can be started using either of the above. Subsequent difficulties must be abandoned after selecting them from the main menu. This ensures a new puzzle is started for each and every difficulty in the run.

It's recommended to have a subscription to Microsoft Sudoku to not have any ads in-game. For mobile platforms this is included with Game Pass Ultimate or can be purchased through the Play Store or App Store. For PC this is included in both Game Pass Ultimate as well as PC Game Pass and can also be purchased separately through the Windows App Store with a Microsoft account.

Timing Method: Real Time

1. All difficulties must be completed (in any order, though ascending or descending is preferred) 2. Each difficulty must start a new puzzle

  • You must abandon each puzzle after selecting the difficulty to ensure a new puzzle is shown

3. Time starts when the first puzzle is started 4. Time ends when the last puzzle is completed 5. (Optional) Show game settings after the run is completed

  • Makes verification easier and only takes a second to open the menu and scroll through them all

Timing Method: In-Game Time

1. Must include one of the two methods of starting a new puzzle

  • New puzzle is started by selecting either "Play Again" after completing a puzzle or by selecting "Yes" to abandon the current puzzle

2. Summary screen must be shown

The following items must be shown (scroll through them if they're not all displayed):

  • Difficulty
  • Time
  • Mistakes
  • Hints Used

3. (Optional) Show game settings after the run is completed

  • After the summary screen select either "Done" to return to the main menu or "Play Again" to load start another puzzle and open the game settings using the menu button.
  • Highlight Houses: User Preference
  • Show Timer: Enabled
  • Show Mistakes

Any%: User Preference 100%: Enabled

  • Show Guides: User Preference

  • Block Duplicates: User Preference

  • Show Remaining: User Preference

  • Update Notes: User Preference

  • Show All Notes

  • Any%: Disabled

  • Any% w/ Autofill: Enabled

  • 100%: Disabled

  • 100% w/ Autofill: Enabled

All

  • Video proof required
  • Start by selecting "Play Again" or "Yes" to abandon puzzle
  • Hints NOT allowed (must show 0 on results screen(s))

Any%

  • Mistakes allowed (i.e. 0 or more mistakes on results screen(s))

100%

  • Mistakes NOT allowed (i.e. 0 mistakes on results screens)

I'm going through everything working on documenting stuff for a (much) larger post about the way the game is currently setup for speedrunning, but I wanted to share this while I'm working on that.

I didn't see this mentioned in any of the guides here, but as part of my aforementioned (much) larger post I just re-installed the game using the instructions in the guide(s) here.

The main problem with getting RE5 to run is that the G4WL installer that's included with the game (redist/gfwlivesetup.exe) will not work. When you launch the game, the BH5AE_install.vdf (source | depot) file will try and run the default gfwlivesetup.exe installer. This will fail since it's an online version of the installer and you'll get this error message:

https://i.imgur.com/DdtzCyi.png

If you look at the log files the setup created, you'll see this line:

(12:46:43) Download http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=201788 failed [Code:0x800c0008]

This is because the file that gfwlivesetup.exe installer is trying to download is no longer available from Microsoft.

To get around this, you'll need an offline version of the installer, which you can download from PCGamingWiki here:

Microsoft Games for Windows - LIVE 3.5.95.0

This package contains the following official downloads packaged together for convenience:

gfwlivesetup.exe gfwlclient.msi xliveredist.msi (renamed from XLiveUpdate.msi to xliveredist.msi to enable detection by gfwlivesetup.exe) wllogin_32.msi and wllogin_64.msi (this installation step is skipped automatically on Windows 8 and later)

Also, I'm not sure why there's two guides that just reference each other, but they could easily just be consolidated.

This guide also mentions you could replace one of the dll files the game uses, but that's not recommended as you're not actually resolving the dependency.

What to do if your game isnt opening after a fresh install

Obviously there's a million ways to fix any problem, but personally I don't think that telling people to download and replace the game's files with ones from someone's Google Drive is the solution. This is just one part of a much bigger problem I have with the way things are setup for RE5 speedrunning.

Is there no restriction on the app/program that's used so long as it's "Spider Solitaire"? Seems like a pretty meaningless game to run then if everyone can just play whatever is the fastest/allows single tap moves by default/etc.

Also, what is with the new Easy - Mobile run? It's not Microsoft Solitaire Collection, it's not even recorded gameplay, and it's just the results screen. Is that what we're saying is good enough for proof now just basically screenshot the results? Should I just re-submit my runs with a screenshot of the "Best Time"? As someone who records their entire run starting with the "New Game" button and even showing the settings at the end, I don't even know why I bothered lol. I could have just downloaded some random app and submitted the results screen and saved myself a lot of time.

Can someone remove this run?

https://www.speedrun.com/re5lin/run/y81kqrwz

I don't get why that would be grandfathered in. They submitted and verified the run on the same day that they announced in this rule change:

https://www.speedrun.com/re5lin/thread/fe3z2

That's clearly something that has been patched out and (as far as I know) was never possible on PC (or Xbox One/PS4). So how is that even the same category at that point? Why would anyone run that now knowing that those exploits are no longer possible and it's pointless to try? If for some reason you guys want to keep the run then make it a separate category. None of the other difficulties/categories use those exploits. It completely changes the run. It's multiple things that completely change the run.

I noticed that the person who submitted the run also verified it, the same day, and is also the person who announced the rule change and grandfathering in which was conveniently the same day that they submitted and verified someone else's run. That person is also no longer a mod for Lost in Nightmares, for some reason, but is for the main game and Desperate Escape.

If this was a mistake or just something that was missed, then can someone just remove it?

Considering everything though (submitted the run and verified the run, chose that specific date to grandfather in the run, is no longer a mod in that one specific sub-game, etc.) I doubt it was a mistake. What are the chances that they picked that exact date? Of that run that they submitted? And they verified? Of someone else (one of which no longer has an account)? Of the only RE5 game they're no longer a mod of?

Trying to submit my run for "The Struggle" and even though "Solo" is selected it's giving me an error about there not being enough players. Here's a screenshot:

https://imgur.com/a/7XVhLau

For now, I just put the second player as "n/a" and submitted it. I tried to edit the run after submitting it and it still fails that that validation when I remove it.

I checked to see if the validation was client side to see if I could bypass it but it's actually getting the error message from the POST to https://www.speedrun.com/ajax_editrun.php?id=zxd34dky&game=3169&action=submit so it's defiitely server side.

If you have any questions or need any other information (sample requests, etc) let me know. Happy to help.

The current mobile best time for Easy is (obviously) using click to move. Is that allowed on easy or something?

Here's the run I'm talking about. https://www.speedrun.com/spidersolitaire/run/zxd23g8y

Was surprised there's no difficulty categories here past expert. Would be cool to see Master and Grandmaster added. Also, having options for 2 and 4 suit would be nice. 1 suit can only add so much difficulty.
