True that could be done. indeed but i would just prefer the 2 lap free practice since its faster to edit the clips together and that its consistent with the speed you get, so there is alot less variables going around.
Since i want the reset being on there so you cannot use savestates, otherwise we do not know for that, and i could make save state for that just that as an example and it would not be known that i used a save state. Someone would eventually go around that and i would like the rules to be as waterproof as possible.
Also i edited the name of Germany To West Germany and United Kingdom To Great Britain, although is it different in PAL than in NTSC version? so both could be used? Im going to put both names in for now

Like the run that bill_dupont's run was just over two minutes in lenght so easily watchable. I'm going to hit up some runs myself with my ruleset, ala 2 laps and then reloading the rom to try again.
On my opinion the rules that i wrote were just fine on my opinion. Nice and quick runs and easy to moderate if we get tons of them.
So since you loadup the rom inside of the emulator it shows you did a hard reset, so i wonder what should be done with that?
Since the rules state No save states or other emulator-specific functions. Not even for reset! But that would simply being shown as a reset.

Yeah that is true but as i vision it as the 1970 and 80s qualifying lap when your tires are rated only for one single lap and after that they are gone and it brings the feeling for that. although for timeperiod it might not be entirely accurate. Since you need to show that you dont use savestates you also need to show the bootup screen so if you endup driving like 10 laps and then you get the lap you will have to show all the laps before that meaning the clips will be longer.
The plan was for the second lap only to matter so you dont get extra speed from other laps, it would also make the runs shorter in lenght. Also i personally like the setup myself since its pretty quick to rerun the run anyways also the first time posted has already been done by that ruleset
I wrote the rules for the Free Practice gategory, so if you have any other changes that should be made to the rules post them here. i believe the wording for the rules could be better but otherwise the rules seem just fine on my opinion.
I was speaking with Shimegabriel about the free practice timing, he said he would prefer to take the time from the 2nd lap since that would simulate it being a qualifying lap.
As of savestates we could mandate to show the bootscreen for the run so you could not use save states at all.
Timing would be done with ingame timer so it would be similar to Super Monaco GP mode. And the time would be the second laptime first being just a lap to gather up the speed for the flying lap.
Well i was thinking about should the timing be done for the first lap or would you be allowed to drive more laps and have a flying lap instead? Doing a flying lap would mean that the clip would be longer since what if you made faster lap later than the 2nd or 3rd lap
What are your opinions about this since its pretty important for the timing.
As of loading you can press start and press a b c to return to the trackselection screen so i think that should be mandated to being shown and then picking the transmission and timing would be done ingame to make sure that running the game faster would have no effect on it. Reseting the emulator is simply enough so you dont really need savestates for driving.
Well You could setup a rule where you need to start from the main menu, it would be as simple as that, or you have to reset the emulator each time.
Well that Twin Galaxies is pretty official looking so speedrun.com is more accessable that way. it might get more people into running since most of the people might not like the long runtime that the worldchampionship mode has.
Since we already have gategory for the arcade we could also have a gategory for the free practice. since the car is the same and you have ingame timing so you could use that time to calculate laptime in a consistent fashion.
Hmm definately could be interested in finding them out If you know how to reproduce them they could get their own guides as such.
