Hello runners!
We've received the first JP specific time submission over the weekend and I'm asking for runner feedback on whether the game times should be all left together on one board, or if JP times should be kept separate from US times on it's own board?
The big advantage to the JP version is that the fish weights are in KG where as the US weights are in LBS. This means that the JP scales will stop between 5-600kg where as US scales will continue to count up to ~1200LBS. It's a pretty significant time difference especially toward the end game where you're looking for big fish, and we have to see the fish weight twice.
Thoughts?
I'm planning to start speedrunning The Blue Marlin soon, and I just came across this post.
My general thinking is that since the JP version has different numbers and a slightly different strat, it should be a separate category. Putting them into the same category creates an unfair advantage to using the JP version since it's sort of like running a different game, since different numbers are involved.
Personally, I speedrun The 7th Saga a lot, and the JP version (Elnard) is much faster than the English version. Because of this, we created separate categories for the JP runs, to create fair competition.
Hopefully that helps!
I've talked about it with Macobra52, they don't believe there's a big enough advantage either way in JP vs US to justify splitting up the categories.
To date, SpeedrunJoeC, you are only the 2nd person to want to split the board. If we could get more feedback from a larger group of runners that all want to split it up, we could look into it, but at the moment I guess we'll just leave it alone.
That said, the TAS of this game was done in 3:42 RTA on the US version so there's still a ton of time left on the table. I have pretty much gone back to playing the US Version mostly hoping to maybe beat my JP time in the future.
