Today the anniversarial leaderboard renovation has been concluded. I hope you all will see its current state as an improvement. I certainly do, though I do need to mention that a part of it does vex me a tiny bit.
In the community vote we both agreed to condense all categories into subcategories the way you can see now, but we also wanted to keep the no hold runs on the site. And unfortunately the only way to do both is to make every category on the board have a no holding variant. I hope most of you can understand how that might not be very desirable, but even more so when you consider the sheer amount of subcategories that have now stacked on top of each other. With the new addition of custom/default tuning, the total amount of non-mobile categories sky-rocketed to 90! That is way more than necessary and personally I would love to be able to cut it in half by removing the holding/no holding distinction. Unfortunately that will remove all of the current no hold runs but I do believe that is for the best. Otherwise we will have quite a number of similar, pointless category pairs. Let me know what your opinion is on this issue, I realize not everyone voting on keeping no hold in the poll might've fully realised the consequences. And since in the long run it could be a great benefit, would you support letting go of no hold?
That discussion out of the way, the new leaderboard has finally taken shape, and as such I will be announcing a bounty for the next week or so. It is a minor one, but still, just to drive competition and fill out some of the new, currently empty, categories. The person who by the end of the month has the biggest amount of points will receive 5$ (USD). Points will be granted for holding a top 3 time in any category upon the conclusion of the contest. And they can stack by having top times in multiple categories. 1st: 4 points 2nd: 2 points 3rd: 1 point
Thank you to everyone who participated in the poll. In the end every single proposition passed barr deleting the current No Hold categories. If anybody wants to see the full results for themselves I have posted them on the community discord.
As of right now I will be busy with something unrelated but in a weeks time I will proceed making changed to this boards moderation to aid in introducing everything that has been decided on.
As per the last news post, I have compiled a number of propositions to be applied to our leaderboard. Please take some time to fill it out, and take part in deciding how will our board look going forward. Any propositions reaching over 50% approval will be implemented in 7 DAYS, when the poll ends.
!!!HEAR YE HEAR YE!!!
As we are on the cusp of reaching the 1000 runs milestone on our wonderful board I thought of some good way to celebrate. And have decided that we will soon follow with our first leaderboard restructuring.
In order to create a better experience moving forward I will be taking suggestions from the community, and compile them into a document for all of us to later vote on.
Improvement suggestions can include:
- Introducing new categories
- Retiring existing categories
- Modifying the current layout
- Rule changes
I personally wanted to suggest completely removing both of the no hold categories, turning the LV1 start variation of the 300K score category into a subcategory and adding a 1M score category.
PLEASE feel free to comment on this post with the changes you want to see as I will be looking at them to compile the document we will be later voting on. You may also comment on my, or other user's suggestions, any opinions will help in waging interest.
!THE DOCUMENT WILL BE COMPILED AND POSTED IN 5 DAYS. PLEASE COMMENT UNTIL THEN!
Thank you to everyone for contributing to this leaderboard so far and making it the biggest Tetris board on the site. Be it a quick 10 lines, a world record holder, or a dedicated runner contributing to all categories, all of you helped this board achieve this immense milestone. I hope I will be able to make it up at least somewhat with this forthcoming update.
Here's to 1000 more awesome Tetris speedruns!
