I've just obtained the game today and had a few hours practicing and familiarising myself with the controls and I've realised that it's quite difficult to play the game on mouse and keyboard with the camera controls and mostly on foot navigation. I have played on PC all my life so I am not very familiar with console controllers and which ones are good/bad. Could anyone suggest me a good controller I can buy either second hand or new that I can use for the game? Budget is around £40 which is roughly $50. Cheers!

You could get a PS4 controller which you could link to your PC for around $50. try looking on ebay or amazon for a PS4 dualshock controller (will probably be second hand if you buy from ebay)

If it helps anyway, I believe since your problem is on foot controls you must be on mouselook mode. You can turn this off in the options and it allows you to move your camera using keyboard. Since you say you’re not used to controllers this might be a suitable option before you go hunting for one. Good luck :D

Yeah, I've tried to experiment with and without mouselook and I've found its incredibly hard to move the camera without it but with it, it's also very hard because it's a lot of controls to be doing at once, so I'm not sure if I want to learn the speedrun with keyboard and mouse, controller seems to be a lot more convenient. Also, FireNinja, I'll look into that as I have played on a PS4 a handful of times because a friend owns one and the controller seemed quite alright. Thanks for the help guys!

I use a wired Xbox 360 controller and it's pretty good, mines a little beat up so it drops inputs sometimes but they're pretty good and cheap I think, other that I see a lot of people use switch pro controllers but i'm not sure how much they are.

There's really no definitive controller that's 'the best'

Liquid and Baconman previously used Playstation 2 controllers before switching to Switch Pro's Cyther who used to be a top contender before new strats were found used a Gamecube controller A lot of runners I know (including myself) use Xbox one or 360 controller's. There are also a fair bit of successful runners who use mouse and keyboard like ksfq, ducbob & orchlon

Whichever controller you prefer or have laying around to be used can most likely be used for the game with a USB/Bluetooth adapter and some software.

It's all personal preference really. I personally like Xbox One Controller because it's not too small, unlike PS2.

Okay, I might look into getting an Xbox 360 controller then because a new PS4 controller is quite pricey but the 360 ones that I have seen on Amazon are relatively cheap compared to other controllers that I have seen.
