In-game time vs Real Time Pros and Cons

In-Game time:

  • Timing method will be more accurate vs other platforms
  • You can technically save a few in-game time seconds per cutscene by watching the entire sequence. The only exception is when Claire gets taken away for the first time, the trap door opens much sooner if the player skips that scene.

Real Time:

  • Discourages watching the entire cutscene
  • Remastered version has better load times so some load last save spots tricks saves time for both in-game and RTA.
  • Now as the game is loading, you can gain control early during the second half of the load sequence. The problem is for PC as 'no-loads' is a thing.... maybe ignore no loads or program a smart Livesplit script to use RTA timing but freeze during actual loads?

Xbox 360 can get away with RTA timing because: ¤ It's a download only game so there isn't any retail vs disc load times shenanigans ¤ Unlike Xbox One, PS4 & PC, the original only came out on the 360 so load times should be consistent. ¤ It is a different game as some of the tricks are not possible in 2015 remastered version.

Loading times on PC are rather variable. In your NG+ Any% video the initial load after the intro takes 6 seconds, but in a recording I just did it took 19 seconds. Overall your defecit between in-game time and real world time is 1:52; mine is about 2:20, following the same route. It might mean that real world time isn't a great choice. However it also makes me wonder whether even the in-game time is affected by the times when the game pauses to load things, without a loading screen.

Yikes, I probably need some help and find someone who can use no loads Autosplit The slower loads is useful for one thing in 100% which is the Triple Jump Boots before Walker by taking advantage of an object that takes longer to load up.

IGT is affected by long transitions or times when the game freezes.

I looked into trying to find the timer offsets for an autosplitter. but my reversing skills are sub-par.

Greenalink, I couldn't get that door to slow-load on PC unfortunately. But I don't know much about that technique, I just copied the kind of thing you did in your AGDQ video. I'm not so worried about the time it takes to kill that boss, at least in casual mode, but having triple jump a bit earlier would make a lot of other things more efficient.

I think my loading times are worse when recording video, which obviously doesn't help. Sometimes the whole thing grinds to a halt with 100% disk activity. I'd like to record a 100% run but it'll have to wait until I can record to a separate disk.

It is possible, he showed me during a demo stream not so long ago, you just have to lock the framerate to ~30. We theorized running off of a HDD vs a SDD would also almost certainly help with that.

Ah, I tried it again and yes, the door does disappear for a while whenever you hang over the floor "ledge" below it. For me it's nowhere near long enough to get back up there, though.

England

It is, it's just precise.
