Hi there,
I recently became a mod for this game and wanted to make a post about categories and rules. I have made the following updates to the game's page.
- the French version, Les Chevaliers Du Zodiaque, is now a separate category because if has different enemies/obstacles and some other gameplay elements.
- I have removed the only old run for the Japanese version. I would prefer not to have done this, but there is no video for it. I can find some runs of it on niconico but it generally appears that folks are using turbo for those runs.
I have updated the general rules, as well as the specific rules. If anyone has any questions about the rationale for the updates feel free to let me know. I took the language from more popular games and copy/paste it here.
Due to recent highlight made by eien86 of TAS made by him and TaoTao and some experiments by me, current any% WR of Japanese version is pushed to 45:56. The menu glitches eien86 have shown seems to be only possible to do on Japanese version, so my suggestion is to split current game category into "Any%" (with glitches) and "Glitchless", because they differs a lot by strats, route and strategies. I also suggest making Japanese "Any%" the main game category because: 1) it is the fastest (and can be pushed even more), 2) runs in 60 fps like most NES speedruns.
Due to complexity of menu glitches (you need to press a lot of double directional inputs at the same frame IN A ROW), I also suggest to add a rule about inputs. Like "It is recommended to show on-screen inputs if you are playng on emulator or a webcam with button presses if you playing on console", something like that.
Another suggestion is to change timer start from pressing start at "GAME START" on the title screen to moment after you have changed your date of birth when you press A on the "END" (or Finish/Done, whatever it is), right before the actual gameplay starts. I don't find speed-menuing fun, and keyboard players will have some advantage in that, as well as your date of birth is changing your starting stats exactly in this game that might affect non-Any% runs a bit: https://strategywiki.org/wiki/Saint_Seiya:_Ougon_Densetsu/Gameplay#Initial_stats
I am not certain that we need a glitchless category. All of the current runs are Any% runs - they are just slower than the new strats you're talking about, but still Any%. If someone feels strongly they want to run a glitchless category we can cross that bridge when we come to it.
I sent you a message looking for clarification about the new strats.
I tend to agree with you about menuing being dumb and painful. We can leave this comment up and make the change if there is no outcry after a while.
Hi there, I think we have to separate glitchless and with glitch, this is a major glitch, with max stat the whole game is different. Congratulations for this glitch !

Sounds good, let me know when you have a glitchless run ready to submit and I will make a board for it!
Just made a solid Glitchless run, still being processed. Zericc, you can move current 59-minutes run by DrSakenomi to Glitchless too if he wants to.
We can re-submit the 59 minute run if DrSakenomi wants, but it is an Any% run. Just because you find a skip doesn't mean that stuff before it isn't Any%.
