It describes Everything You Need To Know About SA2 Speedruns, including detailed descriptions about many skips and strategies. Some information may be a bit out of date at time of posting but almost all of it will be relevant forever.

How to Add Up Game Time (SDA's Method)

Watch your run back and add up your individual level and boss times.

Make sure to add any restarts:
To do this, look at the timer and add the in game time that you paused onto the total. Make sure that it is the same pause menu that you restarted on.

Make sure that you add deaths:
Adding deaths to your game time can be a bit more complicated. If you did not get a checkpoint and you restart to the start of the level, refer to to the section above, but add the paused time of death onto the total instead. If you did get a checkpoint, add the time that you died and subtract the time that displays when you respawn at the checkpoint for every death that you take. This will add the time in between reaching the checkpoint and dying.

When submitting In-Game Time, please be sure to submit the correct centisecond values. For instance, if your In-Game Time is HH:MM:SS:420, then please make sure the centiseconds are submitted as 420 and not 042 in the relevant field.

Any invalid game times submitted will be corrected without consequence as long as the time is close to accurate.

How To Use The Autosplitter/In-Game Timer

It's recommended that you edit your layout in order to display an In-Game Timer/IGT Segments. You can download a base layout here: http://www.speedrun.com/tools/IGT_3nkic.rar

Right click your LiveSplit and go to edit splits. Make sure your game is set properly (Sonic Adventure 2/Sonic Adventure 2: Battle). If the game is set properly, a new option will pop up that says "Autosplitting/In Game Timer is available." Click the activate button, and it will download the file you need and apply it automatically.

If it does, then you're all set. You can change the settings so the timer doesn't autostart or autosplit by un-ticking the checkmark boxes.

If not, this most likely means you have a previous version of the file and need to delete it. Deactivate your timer, save splits, and close your LiveSplit. Browse for the location of the ASL, and remove it. Re-open LiveSplit, and reactivate the timer. If you did everything right, you should be automatically calculating IGT.
