Sooo dchaps is gonna be able to get a SRT to work allowing us to choose the weapon in the locker from the beginning of the run to reduce reset times, every other RNG factor WILL STAY THE SAME, what are your thoughts on it RE3 COMMUNITY ? Yay or Nay?
There's no point having it as its own category because it would simply mirror a regular Any% run. You would basically have two identical Any% categories, one different only in the aspect that time waste from resetting magnum isn't a factor... which isn't a part of any run anyway.
The end result of Any% and Any% without locker RNG would produce the exact same result in terms of an actual run.
For me it´s yes. And being a devil´s advocate, isn´t fair for the runners who actively run the game.
It's one thing to show health and damage values but straight up modification of the game is too much.
Furry is correct in that sure you could save time by removal of the gun spawn but only for just not resetting and going again anyway. It's a slippery slope because if this is fine then eventually you'll want to remove other RNG points (not that I know that's possible) and that's not a slope anyone wants to go down.
In regards to the "make a new category" section as above it would just devolve into "Why would I run Any% when I could run Any% w/o resetting at the start".
Practicing in general, sure go right ahead, people already practice via save states and what not so that's fine to me but posting a run against others who don't use said tools is a No.
You could easily just run this game on easy and that would remove the locker rng element, without having to manipulate it using a tool like that. I agree that I think it's a slippery slope and shouldn't be allowed in actual runs.
Edit: also in terms of new category, maybe if you could remove every rng element and have a 'no rng%' (lul), but pointless to just have a category that just removes the locker rng.
Looks fun for casual runners, but how will we be able to know if people used it or not? In the end its not really cheating but still..
Hmmm so it is an all or nothing type of thing huh? Hmmm then why not add NG+ to misc category then ? That resolves the weapon deal. opinions?
A special consideration needs to be made for the grenade launcher because compared to all the other RNG in this game, it's a reset no matter what. Every other RNG in the game can be managed, but the grenade launcher can't. But by all means, make it its own category, and we'll see the current any% category die overnight.
If it's made into its own category, then what about nemesis%? There'd need to be a nemesis% no rng too, and knife% no rng if you change every rng in the game. Changing only the grenade launcher rng is okay because it's a hard reset point, not a time loss, unlike every other rng in the game.
Ignoring the fact it would systematically kill standard Any%.
Something annoying affecting a games activity shouldn't then mean we're able to simply alter it using a tool. It destroys the entire integrity of a speed game.
The difference between this and the current SRT is all info we gather from the current SRT could be worked out / memorized long before the SRTs were even made. It's a set of fixed HP/damage values and bullet counting. It's made for convenience alone...and none of them actually alter a single value in the games memory.
It would only kill Any% if you remove all the rng, any% will remain exactly the same if you only remove grenade launcher rng.
It would kill Any% because if it's a separate category why would anyone ever run the category with the annoying RNG ever again?
To include tampering w/ memory as a standard in a speedrun (if it weren't separate) is ridiculous, which is why it shouldn't ever be included in the standard Any%, and why it would have to be a separate category if it existed. Hence the dilemma above / killing Any%.
Speedrunning is defined as "beating a game as fast as possible by any means except cheating" (the cheating part is usualy not included in the definition cause its obvious), Cheating is defined as "manipulating something to your own advange by removing either skill and/or luck".
So by definition anyone who would use this is cheating and it would classify as a TAS.
I gotta say, I never expected a thread would be made for this. I was expecting it would be exactly the same as when the china version was added so good job this time.
I completly understand why people would like to use this program and I agree that it can be extremely frustrating when you're on god pace and that the run could then die to a magnum. This is the reason why the Magnum% category was added in the first place. However thats how the game was made and thats how it should be ran/played.
No I meant change the current Any% to include only guaranteed grenade launcher. That way any% remains the same. Yes tampering with a game's memory in a speedrun is heresy, but this is a special case where the only thing it eliminates is uncontrollable resets, and it doesn't affect the final time at all. There's literally no downsides to including it, except principle. All the top runners saying no are simply trying to gatekeep their game.
If you want to make it fair and add a magnum% category ,where's the magnum nemesis% category? Not really fair is it? Since nemesis% is the category that's most affected by the grenade launcher rng since you're arriving later after a tougher early game.
"manipulating something to your own advantage" If everdybody has the same advantage you are not "manipulating something to your own advantage" There for not cheating in a sense. DIC and Quickshooting would arguably also be counted as cheating since cheating is also defined as "using non-standard methods to create an advantage or disadvantage beyond normal gameplay"
