Bonus levels in the GB version are much more time-consuming than on any other platform, so it made sense to try to exclude as many as possible. In the NES version, the game keeps a counter of how many times you get 1st place. As soon as this counter reaches 3, the next level is a bonus level. In the GB version, the game keeps a counter of how many times you get first place in a row. So as long as I don't get 1st place three times in a row, I'm good.

With all possible bonus levels (1st place on everything), the lowest I was able to get was 1:10:40.
