01.1 Getting the game

In order to get openGOAL you will need to download the openGOAL mod launcher from:

After that you can follow this guide below to install openGOAL so you can start runs!

01.21 List of Banned Version Exclusive bugs

A list of KNOWN version exclusive bugs can be found below

Chicken duplication - There is a way to trick the game into thinking you have saved more chickens than you actually have and unlocking the portal/next level early. This is under investigation and planned to be patched in future versions so any use of this bug will result in the run being deemed invalid.

This mod features a fall back softlock prevention check, in the event this triggers during a run then it will result in the run being deemed invalid.


In some cases the mod would not correctly reset the saved chicks per level, this is thought to have been resolved


01.3 Version grouping

# Version Grouping
This mod is still in development and **WILL** change over time, so the boards have been split into various version "groupings" in preparation for this. Please select the appropriate version subcategory and version when submitting your run.

# What constitutes a version split??

There will be version differences within a version grouping, however if there is any **MAJOR** change then there will be a new version group created. There is a chance that there may be a different amount of orbs or collectible locations within the same version grouping.

01.4 How to start a Run

In order to start a run you MUST be using a unmodified release of Jak the Chicken and you MUST enable the Speedrun mode found under Options -> Game options -> Miscellaneous -> Speedrunner mode.

This will automatically skip the opening cutscene when starting a new game.

Unless otherwise mentioned timing starts when jak touches the ground on the first level of the run.


01.5 What is "Speedrun mode"?

Speedrun mode is an option added to vanilla OpenGOAL that automatically skips the intro Cutscene when starting a new game, it also disables any gameplay altering settings such as high FPS and all actors to ensure that all runs on the boards have the same core gameplay with no modifications.

You can enable Speedrun mode by selecting it in the title screen and it MUST be enabled to submit a run. You can find it under Options -> Game options -> miscellaneous -> Speedrun mode

# Starting Frame

The first frame Jak/Flut touch the ground, and the "Has Landed" text changes from #f (false) to #t (true). This is the same between FULL GAME runs and INDIVIDUAL LEVEL runs.

### FULL GAME runs

Timing ends on the first frame of the cutscene after Jak collects Fart Eco in final boss, the same as collecting Light Eco in vanilla Jak 1 run timing.

### INDIVIDUAL LEVEL runs - All Chicks / 100%

Timing ends on the first frame of black screen after returning all chicks and using the warp gate to exit the level.

### INDIVIDUAL LEVEL runs - All Orbs

Timing ends on the first frame of collecting the last orb in the level. You do not need to return to the warp gate and exit the level.
