This guide is NOT about how to do some of the common skips used in INFRA speedruns. This guide is only about the technical requirements to set up INFRA for speedrunning and submit speedruns. You can use this link (https://www.speedrun.com/infra/guide/toa7r) to watch my YouTube tutorials on the basics and part 1. For part 2 and 3 runs, I'd reccommend watching CTX's speedruns for both of them.
----- THINGS YOU NEED -----
- Make an account on speedrun.com (The website you are on now!) if you haven't already.
- INFRA (duh). 3 LiveSplit (https://livesplit.org/downloads/). This works best / only works on Windows.
- Get the blank splits file for the category you want to run from the "Splits" section of the "Resources" tab on the left (https://www.speedrun.com/infra/resources if you can't be bothered to look).
- OBS (https://obsproject.com/download) or any other screen capture software.
----- SETTING UP INFRA -----
- Make sure INFRA is in borderless or bordered mode in the video settings. If it is running in fullscreen then you will not be able to see LiveSplit when playing.
----- SETTING UP LIVESPLIT -----
- Open LiveSplit. It should appear as a grey timer.
- Right-click on LiveSplit and select "Open Splits". Then navigate to wherever it is stored on your computer and open it.
- Right-click on livesplit again, and bind your hotkeys (you only need to bind start/split, but binding all of them is reccommended). Binding them to numpad keys is what I use, but any keys will work.
- (optional) Customise LiveSplit by right-clicking it and choosing "Edit Layout". The default layout works but using the advanced timer and adding the time that you're trying to beat can be very helpful.
----- SETTING UP OBS (RECCOMMENDED METHOD) -----
- Open OBS while INFRA and LiveSplit are running and click on the "+" icon in the sources section.
- Select "Game Capture" > "New" and name it INFRA (or anything else).
- Change the mode to "Capture specific window" then set the window to "infra.exe"
- Click OK.
- Click the + again but select "Window Capture" this time.
- Select "New" and name it "LiveSplit" (or Sir George, Royal Chronological Divisioner of Prompt Infrastructure Inspections).
- Change the mode to "Capture specific window" then set the window to "LiveSplit.exe".
- Click "OK" again.
- (optional) OBS will automatically detect a microphone if it is connected. If you do not wish to record your audio, select the mute icon next to the Mic/Aux slider. If you do wish to record your audio but talk quietly, click on the gear icon next to one of your audio sliders > "Advanced Audio Properties", and ajust the percentages of your game and mic volumes. I use 50% for INFRA and 125% for my mic, but other values may suit you better.
----- SETTING UP OBS (QUICK METHOD) -----
- Open OBS and click on the "+" icon in the sources section.
- Select "Display Capture" > "OK" > "OK".
While this method is quicker, it will record everything on your screen and is not reccommended. This especially applies to streaming.
----- RUNNING (RECORDING) -----
- Open INFRA, LiveSplit and OBS.
- Make sure LiveSplit is in a corner of your screen to minimise how much of your view it obstructs.
- Select "Start Recording"
- Perform your run. During loading screens, hit your start/split keybing as soon as the white loading bar appears.
- When completed, tab-out, select OBS and select "Stop Recording".
----- SUBMITTING A RUN (RECORDING) ----- This should be done before starting another run, doing so will override the splits and segments for the run in LiveSplit.
- Open the recording of your run using the video editor of your choice.
- Trim it down to only include the run you wish to submit.
- Upload the trimmed recording to YouTube (or any other video hosting site).
- Go to the speedrun.com leaderboard for the run you're submitting and select "Submit Run"
- Open the LiveSplit Edit Splits menu and copy the split time for the last row in the "Real Time" and "Game Time" tabs into their respective boxes in the submit run form.
- Paste the link to where you have uploaded the video of your run into the corresponding box.
- (optional) Fill in the description with where your run went well / poorly (or just put "Good Mörko" regardless of whether you went through B2 or not.
- Wait for a moderator to approve your run, then it will appear on the leaderboard for all to see.
If you have any problems or wish to make suggestions, feel free to DM me on Discord, I'm on the Loiste Community server. Otherwise you can pose questions to the #speedrunning channel and get help from other runners.
