I think the time is gonna be the total of all the bossfights added together, so IGT, I saw some people talk about it in the discord earlier if you want to discuss it further
I found it was hard to tell when the button to start a new run was clicked so that's why now time starts on the first black screen as it is a consistent visual cue which should make it easier to verify runs
I also decided time should end after the last significant player input, so after interacting with the police officer at the end in Scrap Palace, it is true that the player has control of the camera in a later cutscene but I don't think this should matter in the speedrun as it does not impact how long it takes for the game to end
For a similar reason I thought about allowing to start a run from the "level select menu" which would skip about a minute and a half of cutscene - this would be more speedrun friendly but it would also cut off the opening credits and I do not feel comfortable with that ; I consider this game to be quite a unique gem and want to show support to the developer so I decided against it for now
just played the demo for Crypt Custodian, really fun and pretty top down metroidvania, it has a great atmosphere and I recommend giving it a try
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2394650/Crypt_Custodian/
there's also a board for the demo if anyone wants to pick up a short and sweet run
yeah maybe it would be better to find a way to advertise for this bounty a bit more and postpone it until then
@HappySack have you tried contacting Greenalink about this ? he has a fairly active youtube channel and streams on twitch as well, maybe they could give the bounty a shoutout, potentially making this into an actually competitive event, just a thought
@jefferson_3 the man already put a $1000 bounty on the table, you cannot reasonably ask them to also buy the game for you and everyone else jeez
here is the modification I just wrote into the rules :
"Time ends when the loading icon in the bottom right corner disappears, right before the diary fades in Please make sure some part of the loading icon is always visible in your video submission ! (for example if livesplit is in the bottom right corner of your recording make sure it doesn't hide the icon entirely or make the timer background transparent otherwise)"
I made this change after watching Oknia's wr run and realizing that the diary fading in was hard to time precisely, so I think using this visual cue is better while staying true to the original timing since the end of the loading screen should be exactly when the diary starts fading in (even though all you can see at first is a black screen)
tell me if any of this seems confusing or poorly worded
it is very short and you do have to click a few times to progress through it so I'd rather keep timing that way
for the sake of simplicity I think it is in general better to start the timer on the first input, when game starts, unless there's a good reason not to (for example if the intro was a several minute long cutscene then i would agree with you)
sure, you just have to submit the recording twice and I'll verify it for each category
also I'd appreciate it if you can submit a youtube video this time as it is easier for retiming
yeah not sure this needs a discord, I'm probably done with this game for now, not that the time can't go lower but I don't really plan on grinding restricted any further, especially cause I just picked this up to procrastinate running another game and I didn't think It would take me so long to get a time I'm satisfied with ><
also why not call the categories "any%" and "any% glitchless" ? so far the launch is the only glitch useful for any% - "restricted" would only make sense if there were other glitches allowed
it's totally possible to write a small script that tells livesplit to stop the timer during loading, I did it once and I have zero experience in programming, i don't remember much about it but basically you use cheat engine to look at the game data and you either find a variable that always changes when the game is loading or a variable that keeps track of in game time (some games actually have a timer in their variables even if they never display it to the player) - you need to google "livesplit load remover" and probably look up a couple cheat engine tutorials as well as you do need to learn how cheat engine works in order to find a memory space that is used by the game consistently or else your script might only end up working on your computer but not on another device
hope this makes sense as I am not very knowledgeable in the matter, you could also go ask for help on the Speedrun Tool Development discord at : https://discord.gg/BB7s7Kvk I would still recommend doing a bit of research on your own before asking

This thread is getting so much attention because of the posts above. So far, its kind of surprising how many people have come in and posted to it. If all those who have been there all started posting up here, why is everyone not posting back? I've only been there a few minutes over the last few months. I hope this helps out people. I'm not a dick though. Please dont expect me to be like this over at any point in future. Let's just keep this thread going and not come up with bad threads to be filled with false information and make excuses for people to come in and post things in. I didn't send in every comment and I did not do "the right thing". We as a community are all of different shapes and sizes and I love it here in the real world. That being said, I would like to thank everyone who got in here and said enough is enough and I hope to see you guys all on reddit this year. I love this thread so much. It's filled with people that make this world a better place every day. I promise! I see how many here are saying the same thing and I can appreciate it in other places I meet and talk to. Just so anyone knows, if this thread gets picked up somewhere in the comments I will not be able to post here and I won't be able to reply to it either.
