Currently all decisions on rulesets for categories are set, but if a runner wishes to discuss a change to any current rule(s), they need only to make a post to discuss the reasoning behind a change. If you're wanting to make a change, please try to do it in this manner:

Then could we not have a seperate category with those settings allowed as an Enhanced category as I mentioned? If you insist on having this stay similar to the original boards, then having a seperate category that takes advantage of minor settings like the ones I listed, is (if nothing else) practical. If people want a pure experience they can play the original games, or run a classic category.
Ocarina of Time allows emulators already, for those that can't utilize original hardware. To not embrace SoH and it's features (those that don't drastically change the game), defeats the purpose of having it as a different game.
I'm willing to write up the ruleset and provide arguments for any settings inclusion for approval if it's just a matter of the current mods being busy or uninterested in taking it on.
At the end of the day, I'd like to speedrun this version of OoT, but with the present settings, I'd be better of with the original game. SoH is an inherently different beast, and should be treated as such.
I assumed it would be 60 fps, since that's the main draw of this version of the game. But clarification would be rad. 60 fps, free-cam and d-pad ocarina are a solid foundation for SoH OoT runs.
Also, rad that you're prepping runs too @TriforceofCoffee ! Goodluck man!
You have the D-Pad Ocarina option which is awesome, but is Free-Camera allowed? Being able to use the Right Stick for a free camera is a massive draw for this version of OoT for me.
I'm down to have it in a different category if you all feel it necessary. I'm just prepping some runs for Any%, and wish to use the feature but saw no mention of it.
EDIT: Since the more I dig, the more questions I have, I'm just throwing this out as a list.
#1 - Free-cam being allowed
#2 - 60 FPS lock?
#3 - "Assignable Tunic and Boots" setting allowed?
#4 - "Aiming Reticle for Bow/Slingshot" & "Targetable Hookshot Reticle" being allowed?
#5 - "Prevent Bombchus Forcing First-Person" allowed?
#6 - BIG BIG BIG GRAIN OF SALT HERE - Thoughts on texture packs and/or allowing texture packs that have been vetted and are known to not affect gameplay?
While the quick answer here is "No". I think the SoH version of OoT brings a lot of features to the game that the original versions don't, and running this version the exact same, would mean this doesn't really need it's own category, since it's just another version of the game to run on. Each setting I've listed above, is one I feel adds to the game in a meaningful way as a unique-to-SoH feature, but doesn't break the spirit of the speedrun. #6 is a stretch, but doesn't affect the speedrun outside of aesthetics.
Alternatively, if these settings are too much for folks, perhaps we could consider splitting the categories. For example you'd have "100% (Classic)" & "100% (Enhanced)".
There's a lot being asked here, but I'm very much willing to help the mods find good middle ground here and/or get a solid set of rules we can all be proud of, up and running!
Thank you!
Is N64 mode permitted but not required? I very much dislike the way the game looks with the setting on, so just wanted to clarify. I'm happy to start posting runs, but likely won't if that mode is required.
EDIT: Wanted to ask about enabling the dpad for items as well. It's one of the big advantages of running SoH over the regular game. If it's disallowed in the main category, would it be possible to get an Any% Enhanced category? i'd be happy to discuss and hash out the ruleset for enhanced as well. I'd like to make SoH OoT a respected version of OoT speedruns, but with the features it brings to the table to differeniate it from the original.
Thanks for the response either way!
Hello folks!
I'm a new runner to 3DDGH. Played the game years ago, and been waiting for an opportunity to speedrun it! I just reobtained a PS3, got a splitter and waiting on the game to arrive early next week, then I'm diving into relearning the game and then posting some speedruns.
Hope to see some action here, because this game is a banger!
Anyone sitting on any documentation for this game at all and down to share some notes?
Cheers runners!
Easiest way to sort this out (I would think) would be to take the runs that are done without modification to chat now, and compare them to several runs with chat modifications. If the chat modifications show obvious signs of time save, then uphold the ban. If they don't, then at least the community knows and text mods can be used.
In my experience with various speed games over the years, these things often come down to taking the initiative and testing to see. If someone is using a text mod, and it provides no advantage, then the community as a whole now has access to that information. Same if things turn out to have a noticable advantage.
TL;DR - Mod your text, do a few runs and see. Analyze some text heavy portions of the run and compare timing.
Hola fellow runners. I'm brand new, just dipping my feet into speedrunning this, and I had some questions. I was told today, that running on Cartridge can cost between 3-4 seconds per race. Just wondering if that is correct?
I'd also like to preface my next question with the statement that I know I'm new, and not practiced, so I'm not asking this because I believe it would give me any edge. I'm genuinely curious why this game doesn't offer a cartridge category, and one for digital. There's a few categories that have a cartridge runner in the top 5, but the vast majority of the top runs are digital. Would it serve the community better the separate submissions moving forward? Assuming a 4 second loss for loading for cartridge players, that's a 1 minute four second loss just over the course of a Nitro Run. Like I said, I flat out just need to get gud, and I look forward to improving as I play, but curious as to why the separation hasn't happened before now? Other prominent games have done so in the case of games that use original hardware and those run on emulator, in cases where the emulator is shown to run faster or slower.
Honestly just looking for discussion here, not trying to ruffle feathers.
