  • Caching still appears to exist on console (no data on PC myself).

Comparison: Slow (Appears to be roughly the same speed as a PS4 SSD fast load):

Fast:

Clarifying simply in case; costumes have nothing to do with this. I had the fast load in my PB on PS5, too. Slow one was caused by launching the game and playing from Mot 2's safe room, fast was achieved after the whole palace was done.

  • Thieves Den progression saving no longer stops you doing activities whilst it is doing so. Such as sleeping or studying. On PS4, whilst the game is doing this it will flat out stop you interacting until it is finished.

  • Some shadows do appear to behave differently. One shadow I am sure, is different is the one directly after Mot 2 that spawns after grabbing the Orb. There are likely other shadows that are subtly different, but after several practice runs, I haven't observed anything of immediate note.

  • At 60fps and higher, Out of Bounds involving the collision of shadows and clipping by moving alongside them (such as Kaneshiro's Basement Skip, Shido's Palace Skip and Tape Skip), no longer appear to work.

  • Framerate seems to affect height gain during specific out of bounds. At 60fps and higher you will gain incrementally less height each rotation than you would on 30fps playing on PS4. Does not seem to affect height loss.

  • FFW is directly affected by framerate. 60fps is much faster than 30fps, and 120fps is also faster than 60. Same thing with text scrolling whilst holding triangle; the higher your framerate the faster it will scroll by.

  • Framerate seems to even directly affect load times, going by a test conducted by Neviutz.

  • Newer versions seem prone to occasional freezing during FFW: https://twitter.com/FurryWulfz/status/1584804066676424706/video/1

Others who have collaborated something similar happened to them: DarkKefka (PS5), Asapaska and Hoxi (Both PC).

  • Newer releases appear to have adjusted how many movements left/right make in certain menus. Notably, the flower shop and compendium.

First noticed by Cereth, trying to utilize his notes for menus, this is how the flower shop menus appear to behave in comparison:

PS5 Remaster (Flower Shop Menu):

1 right = 4 inputs down. 2 right = Another 4 inputs down.

Both left and right appear to mimic the same as 4 down/up inputs each time.

PS4 (Flower Shop Menu): 1 right = 3 inputs down. 2 right = Cursor moved to the very bottom choice.

Both left and right appear appear to mimic 3 inputs down or up the first press, and the second press will result in you being forced to the very top, or bottom, of the menu.

This is moreso a bug with the site currently, but it does seem to also affect featured game.

That being submissions with 2 videos don't seem to work: https://www.speedrun.com/user/Liv

(They only display the first video, however... there is also an additional bug at play here which I'll elaborate on below)

If you utilize the "video link" field to list both parts (which you can do by putting Part 1: [Video Link] Part 2: [Video Link]), as opposed to using the description/comment field to list any additional parts, videos will return an ID error when trying to play the video. This is the case only in the mod hub and it seems here, however the videos work normally when trying to view them from the run page, example: https://www.speedrun.com/p5r/run/y4751wky . I have no idea why.

You can verify this by trying to watch the video from my profile, and then going to the actual submission on the game's leaderboard, where the video will always work without fail.

A way to fix this possibly may be an eventual proper field for multi-part submissions, but right now it appears there's gonna be some games/runs that simply cannot be properly put in featured run.

First off, some general information on PS5 vs PS4.

  1. PS5 doesn't look to be that much faster than PS4 with SSD. The largest benefit appears to be in the immediate intro (similar to P5 Vanilla), where you receive approximately a 5-10 second advantage over PS4, possibly due to this being before caching starts kicking in. Very similar to the HDD > SSD jump, the immediate intro seems to be the only largest noticeable difference. Everywhere else appears to be frames at best. It is, however, nowhere close to the jump that you get moving from the stock HDDs on PS4 to any kind of SSD (External/Internal), as loads aren't observably that much faster. Some even appear to be slower, without much explanation. I will detail one that I have noticed later.

  2. PS5 does not have any effect on the "slow casts" you will sometimes get during battle. Proving these aren't due to any kind of slow loading on spells, but just a general flaw of Persona 5.

  3. Using PS5 does not appear to remove the faster load benefits received from caching during play. Loads being slower after booting the game fresh still exist.

  4. There doesn't appear to be any observable differences in Shadow A.I, collision, etc on PS5. Gameplay wise, it appears to be identical to PS4.

Considering how much time I've put into the game and shadow behaviour, any changes would've probably been apparent to me immediately.

  1. Swapping controllers is quicker on PS5 than it is on PS4. As in, if you were to be using a turbo controller and wanting to swap to the dualshock 4 for the darts game, it it quicker to so on PS5 than on PS4. Not by that much, but still quicker.

One load that I have noticed (multiple times) appears to be actually slower on PS5 is this one:

PS4 Example (69 frames)

PS5 Example (73 frames)

This one was largely noticeable to me due to the 'Take your Time' logo actually appearing, which I had never seen on my PS4 during runs, but have multiple times on my PS5. Even during another run which I have no longer have footage for due to it being a failed attempt, the logo appeared. I haven't noticed many other instances of this, however they may well exist, as the only reason this particular load caught my eye was because of the 'Take your Time' logo showing.

The Flower Shop loads look to be generally slightly faster, however it is also difficult to use direct comparisons here because it appears that the actual NPC that shows up to the flower shop (of which it appears random which does) can seemingly cause a slightly longer load sometimes. The general observation I've made however is that the PS5 looks to be faster here, usually by a few frames.

(These are timed from the first frame the screen is completely black after selecting work, to the first frame the cutscene becomes visible)

PS4 (89 frames)

PS5 (87 frames)

6/22 Flower Shop Comparison:

The Bathhouse also looks to be a very similar situation.

PS4 (103 frames)

PS4 (107 frames)

Warping between locations looks to be slightly faster only in some instances.

Warping from one area to another area seems to vary. Status Warping to the Hideout seems to be faster on PS5, however Status Warping from Station Square to Central Street seems to be exactly the same between the two.

The difference when warping between areas in the same location is sort of inconclusive. PS5 etched ahead by 1-2 frames in two of the examples of warping from the 2nd-Hand Shop to Outside LeBlanc, however in the final example they're exactly the same.

6/2 Comparison

PS4 (40 frames)

PS5 (40 frames)

6/7 Comparison

Warping looks to vary depending on the where you're warping and the method used.

Warping to the hideout looks to be slower on PS4 than PS5, however warping to Central Street from Station Square looks to take the same amount of time, no matter the console.

Other locations I've noticed a difference in was warping to Takemi's Clinic, which seemed to be a few frames faster on PS5 than on PS4.

Overall, I think PS5 can edge ahead in a few areas by frames but it isn't going to add upto anything significant. At most, a minute maybe across the run, if even that. Certain loads being only 1-3 frames faster in parts essentially means you would need to accrue hundreds and hundreds of loads across the entire game to even have it be a minute faster.

2 frames saved a load = 15 loads needed to save 1 second. Meaning to save a minute you'd need 900 loads (15 x 60), which... I just do not think is happening, even in a game this long. If you increase the average frames saved to 4 per load that'd still end up being 450 loads needed to save just 1 minute.

Probably pretty standard in Uncharted/TLoU speedruns by this point but you can cancel falls that would usually just cutscene into death if Ellie does her 'stumble' animation on something:

Okay, so after having some complaints peddled to me about this game, and after having a discussion with a Content Mod also, we've decided to shuffle the moderation around on this particular title.

Cosmoing seems to be handling all of the runs by himself. There has been 60 runs submitted since March, and every single one of these runs has been handled by Cosmoing. None of the other 3 mods appear to have done anything regarding runs either very early 2018, or 2017. From what I can see via the logs, none of the other mods appear to have done anything on the game in a very long time period, so all this work being left for a single mod to handle is unfair, I would say.

I've upped Cosmoing to a Super Mod, so he is able to add additional people, whether those be verifiers or not, to help with the runs.

Lowered Silent to a standard mod, additionally. This will perhaps enable this title to proceed more efficiently.

( Additionally, can any moderator state the situation regarding this: https://www.speedrun.com/marioparty2/thread/x1jg6 ? Cannot verify if this particular thread has been addressed, but it is claiming there are several cheated runs in the emulator rankings, and that should definitely be addressed. Granted, a lot of the work has been handled by a Single Mod for a long time. )
