Is there any consistent way of doing the Bowser fight? I understand the fireball skip at the beginning but am in need of learning how to fly above until I can get the next hit with the clown car.
Also, I'm making a return to the community. Nothing epic or grand though.
Usually when speedrunners refer to arbitrary, they usually mean that, even though it might be an intended path by the game creator, it's nothing more than that, and the general community won't go out of their way to run it. Also, it's not a category well known (if known at all) outside of the community.
The 3 main categories that anyone outside of any mario community would guess existed in a mario game are: any% w/ warps, any% without warps, and 100%.
Also IL's and IW's if you even consider them categories.
Otherwise, for anybody to know an "arbitrary" category exists, they would have to go out of their way to discover it.
Good examples are removing certain worlds from a speedrun. Or adding specific levels.
I think it should be on selecting the file, considering the intro is basically the same as Super Mario World, and not nearly as long as NSMB W intro.
My 2 cents.
Also, expect other replies to take a long time, this page is seemingly not active.
I'm active in discord, as well as this site.
Former world record holder of IL's 1-1 and 1-2 (before the rule change to allow items)
Also a 10:31 pb in a world 1 IW (Not submitted, but posted on my Youtube.)
I also never make decisions without community approval.
I've suggested in other forums that we just revert to the old system we had and just distinguish which system it's been run on, as we do in literally other game.
It gives it a simple system and the records are still distinguished by system itself.
I just figured I'd ask since the glitch pipe does appear :)
I'm not sure if wrong warp is possible to ending credits on the all stars cart, but even if it is, you could make the category rules state that smw must be of the no major glitches category, so they could still use cloud / orb if deemed necessary.
I say this because there is a small glitch in smb1/LL where you can enter specific pipes after doing specific movements to get to the warp zones. Doesn't have a horribly huge effect on the game though, similar to orb / cloud glitches for 11 exit.
I have an English Cart of SMAS+SMW so...i mean i don't see why it's a problem.
Other than rarity?
Will also be posted in All-Stars forum.
Anybody?
Will also be posted in SMB3 forum.
Anybody?
As said above is true, I would also say anything that's around like 25 minutes (or better) should be a guideline for a video.
There are other ways to get a submission accepted with that benchmark though, such as being witnessed through audio by another (trusted) runner.
And ofcourse, world records definitely require video.
If I may, I would suggest adopting the New Super Luigi U rules for Individual World runs.
Ewaller seems to pop in and out, but he does check in haha. That discord is a really good idea.
I also like the idea of making one big one for all NSMB games, mainly for community to talk about differences in levels, physics, power-ups, etc... and help people get into more than one of the games. There could also be NSMB series races in all games, if you really have all that time.
Idk, just my 2 cents. I've got no idea how to even make a discord, so that's up to somebody else if the idea wants to be used / stolen.
Or just make sub tabs, one with boost and one without boost.
Only problem is how many runs we don't have of it atm.
My vote is neutral.
The NSMB Wii rules were changed pretty recently (and voted on). I don't fully agree with their rules personally but it's whatever haha. It allows some IL's with skips to be used though, so I guess it's kindof a plus.
I do still like the old style that follows the rules of the original mario games where there shouldn't be any power-up though.
Here's the forum thread where rules were talked about (scroll down to the bottom)
http://www.speedrun.com/nsmbu/thread/mqxze
Even though I don'y quite personally reremember suggesting it myself, people seemed to like it anyways.
(NOTE: these were comparable to NSMB Wii IL rules before they voted on a change.)
Assuming you are talking about the 100% IL: That level doesn't seem to provide any power ups at all, if I'm not mistaken.
To get the first coin, he needs to either have the P-Switches inactive, or be big to ground pound through the brick blocks.
To get the second coin, he needs a squirrel suit anyways.
P-Switches being inactive will in turn not give him enough time to make it through the level, which will need a flying squirrel suit anyways.
He's not breaking the rules which were voted on, and this is a level which does have the exception of not providing a power up needed to 100% the level.
I don't quite agree with him using the P-Squirrel, but that should probably be a mod decision.
You're not, unless otherwise voted on by the community.
With this game though, as well as NSL U, the 100% IL's only start with a certain power up if the level doesn't provide it if needed. This one was a community decision. This game, I'm not sure if there's any levels where it would actually apply, but doesn't hurt to be safe.
This is the wrong warp for the current any% run, isn't it?
Mitch has even performed this at GDQ once, and is the current category world record held by Mitch, performed on stream around 1.5 years ago.
