Yup, I think guys working on Devilution shared that cool tip regarding portal position. Wall spawn is the unfortunate possibility.
Hello. I'm not a specialist in that, but I think this is the undiscovered Lazarus portal. Lazarus quest works like this - it's always available, but it's hidden at position X,Y. After you bring the staff to the town, its position is multiplied by 2: it's X times 2*,* Y times 2 (and it's visible as the red town portal). That's why you've stumbled upon Lazarus entrance in the North part of the map.
Low-HP-MS is not a glitch.
This statement has been provided by Funk, who referred to the conversation he had with David Brevik himself.
Category name discussions were heated back in the day. Glitch/exploit/rules discussions were heated back in the day. Some of the discussions related to:
- name of the category: Glitchless vs Legit% vs No Dupe No Load (was there "Dupeless" too?)
- allowance of death before Diablo died
- low-HP
- 4-tile, horizontal walk, elemental bow, firewall
- spell buffering
- v1.09 Diablo version
Recently we're having discussions related to:
- name of the category
- free casting
- low-HP
- overpowered spells
- playing game modifications
We all have our perspectives.
Speedrunning Diablo is genuinely fun. To keep it fun, we strip ourselves of overpowered exploits. We also choose HC over SC to give additional thrill. Classic speedrunners of course stick with Any%.
I'll check the cheese scenarios for bows, sounds very promising. If cheese is slow and difficult to execute then it's fine for speedrunning purpose.
Firewall nerf is very exciting. It means that player will be able to create walls where (most) enemies can't reach.
Weird that south-walking isn't meant for fixing, but at least it means I have less to learn ;)
I read the bugfix list for Devilution: https://github.com/diasurgical/devilutionX/blob/master/docs/CHANGELOG.md
Looks very nice. Indeed south-walking is not fixed. Watched some of your VOD to check for 4-tile, apparently Devilution fixed some arrow-related issues (not sure if those are fixed too).
How useful is Fire Wall now? Seen in the changelog something about it got changed? Do the enemies avoid it (completely/partially)?
What I fear the most is the potential of some runs going without south-walking fix, and some (in the future, when it's fixed), with it. It's a crucial technique for physical speedrunning.
Setting rules sounds good. Personally I'm a fan of exploiting vanilla D1. What does one need to start running DevilutionX?
Just wondering, does it fix all of the following exploits: horizontal-walking, south-walking, 4-tile, low HP mana shield?
I think this trick should be forbidden. It takes advantage of game being in an unhandled state for a very short amount of time, just like duping.
Frankly I really wanted something that'd reshape the way Glitchless speedruns look like - FW ManaS drop casino. But this trick shouldn't be it. I'd rather qualify it as less-efficient variation of duping.
It's considered a feature.
We don't allow duping.
We don't allow putting spell buffered from previous game.
Heyo. GoG version is still the standard version of Diablo. Regarding HD Mod, I think it's belzebub mod. There is a Tchernobog mod as well and frankly I'm not sure which one is "the HD Mod" listed in these categories.
Hello,
I'm working on it but still learning how to manage speedrun categories. I think Eino was taking the most care about the administration here.
Edit: should work.
I've watched some Genesis gameplay a bit better... pretty much everything is different. Still not sure if there's a way to separate runs and still keep a readable sheets.
Fortunately times have changed so video recordings are much easier to produce.

Didn't actually think that save/load would be an issue. IMO it's better to keep save/load allowed. From what I've seen only The Missile random landing location was abusable. That being said, I wouldn't mind if "no load" was made a rule for individual levels.

Definitely v1.07 should be the standard. Seeing all the differences for v1.00-v1.06 would make comparing runs awkward. Unfortunately there's no way to see which version game is running (unless recording was made from the starting screen).

Skipping the copyright questions sounds perfectly fine for me.

Genesis version runs are different platform of the same game. I don't see any point in moving them somewhere else. The spreadsheet of individual levels is complicated enough as of now.
