Don't know how legit these times are, but if you are planning to run the game I would suggest watching these :)
I use avidemux, so after cutting the video exacly where I want I choose Filters and go into misc and chooses PrintInfo. and that will add all that information on screen. Bet there should be something like that for most programs.
This was the first game I fame counted as well, and my frame counting is from the frame when screen turns black after pressing start, until final frame the 3rd opponent is viewable on screen. This got accepted before I was a moderator here(I got added as a mod from no where :p).
So shall we all agree on First black frame until the frame the 3rd opponent disappears?
Also I don't know how to frame count videos from youtube, but if anyone ever want help with frame counting, just hit me up on discord and send me the video clip and I will help you frame count it.
So I accepted your time as it was submitted for now WolfMerrik, cause it did look like such a time from youtube point of view, but using frame count on something else might be far more accurate.
If you check another game the recently did emu and real hardware seperation because of this issue, is Ninja gaiden 3, which imho was BS, cause the issue wasn't emulator vs real hardware, but keyboard vs controller. So in that game they basicly made emu players forced to use keyboard if they wanna compete, which is something I would recomend avoiding.
I think the best way would to just have as LRock is suggestion, just add standard(Basicly anything with a dpad or stick(?), not allowed to re-map direction to a button) and specialized(basicly any controller and re-map however you wanna).
Emulators players shouldn't be pushed into the same category as keyboard or touch screen only cause those two are possible on emulator, and will hurt the competition in the long run. Cause I have a 3:45 on emulator, grinding for a 3:43, but if I know I'm competing against keyboard and touch, there's no reason for me to submit my current time or keep up the grind as I'm playing at a disadvantage.
Is the RNG really different between console and emulator? There's a real good way to check.
The letter RNG changes every frame on the title screen(screen with mickey before blue start screen). hard reset your console, try and hit A as early as possible and hold it until first stage select. Then look if you got any of these 5 letter combinations:
Y U H O K C W S F M K B W T F O K A Y R G O L A V R F O L D
(I've started to map out the frames in this game, and getting help from a lot of helpful people).
For me the two issues is wether the phone emulator is accurate, which it does seem to be from just watching it, so that's not an issue. But the issue for me is the touch screen.
Most people will most likely think "Why is touch screen better?". Mashing, especially mashing dpad. now we might be talking about 1-2 frames per button move. optimal mashing in the choosing of letter is 20 presses per sec, and I think most of us can say we are no where close to that. I'm at 11(and that's not on dpad, dpad is more like 9-10 I would assume) myself a good day. People have reported to be able to go from 10-11 up to 18+ on touch screen.
so almost 3 frame movement for touch, lets say 3.5 vs 5 on dpad. Optimal movement is: 13, that's almost 20 frames(0.333 seconds). however we haven't found the optimal letter seed yet, the most optimal we have found is frame 212, with 2 extra move. we are up to 23 frames. lets check on WR letters at the same time, with 17 moves, which is 25-26 frames, starting to near half a second.
I'm all for splitting, but I would rather see a split that doesn't make this game pointless to play on emulator with controller. maybe have one category for emulators that allows any controllers, and the other category basicly force players to not be allowed to remap/double button mapping and that movement gotta be done with dpad(or anything that exist for the original NES). Unless the RNG is completly different on console, then I agree with splitting the two categories, but still split the emulator category as well.
I do also realize this is basicly me calling out the WR in this game. However, the player here is spot on in every spot, and this game can be pushed down 2 seconds more with god rng. The player is good enough to get WR with controller, and the touch screen wr isn't unbeateble, YET. so we need to put this fire out before it gets to that stage.
Seperating the game by difficult categories is pointless, as it would make all leaderboards beside master thin. so good just allowing all, as master will give you the best time.
For the question about seperate cup, make a run and we will make a category for it and we will see if it catches on :)
Hi Leandrom90!
As far as we know(or I and most others) there are no difference in the versions. However, we as a community hasn't looked that much into the "transition screens" between each race in the "Any%" category. Edwardfourzero6 can most likely answer that the best.
Gameplay wise there's no difference between U and J version. everything that works in J works in U and vice verse.
As you see after checking this tas out, it is not ment to be frame perfection every where, more a theory how much we can push down the times currently, and sub 8 is defently possible.
Also this is my first time ever doing tas stuff.
Things I've learned:
Controlls: if you mash it seems the game just won't take your inputs half of the time. it didn't register the inputs from my controller at times when I tried to take shortcuts(not having to go frame by frame)
New strats: Demon level - Old strat I basicly killed the two "health" monsters at the start so they wouldn't follow you, and you get 2 extra hearts. New strat Keep them alive, it will save you 10 seconds or so only by itself, it will also prevent the "black knight" to spawn.
Things I learned that will screw you no matter what: On demon level as well, if you enter the door on the wrong frame, the black knight on the other side will shot is projectile, and it will be inside you and no chance to avoid. So if you keep having flawless stage up until that point, and die, try and wait a few frames before entering. I believe it's on a global timer he fires, so you can most likely just eye your timer to find out if you will get killed or not.
would be cool if a real taser did a tas to see what really is possible, but I'm happy with knowing sub 8 is possible for a human :)
Not found any new glitches, however I wanna believe you could use the jumping on enemies thing on demon factory as well, and save a good 10sec or so if done optimal. Issue was when I tried it I couldn't do it optimal even with save states.
One key to get a fast run, is that after stages mash B or A, not both, and not holding a direction, cause if you do, you can't skip the "stage text" fast.
I'm sure with the current strats a sub 8:30 is possible, but would be nice to see more people just run it, and stumble across a glitch.
Nice! will add it once I have time to time it and such :)
You know if he has a sr.com account? Will wait and add his time for a week or so until I know if he has one and can do it himself.
And it is allowed here if that's your question :)
Unless there's been some finding that the emulation is faulthy. If so someone can correct me :)
Thanks Zexerous, will join and see you there :)
Hi! Just started routing this game myself. To unequip items just go into equip menu, the character you want to unequip, and press left. For the rest I don't know what the rules are, but true 100% should be guild missions and all optional dungeons(wreckage, that earthquake plant with demi, and there's one at dezo as well I believe?), but there's a 100% run up, check it and see what that player does :)
New to PSIV, but love it when I was young. Was routing this game(I enjoy doing the research and going by my own notes) last night, and thought a good first time to stop routing and do test runs would be Jouza, but as there's a zio%, I will continue routing today up to that point and try it out :)
Love the idea of splitting up the longer games(3h+) and make a shorter goal, and Zio seems perfect, it's such an iconic boss fight, at least for me that grew up with this game.
