The purpose of this guide is to help create the fastest possible routing between the missions in Any% full-game run. It contains all acts and maps with the point where Hulk starts the mission and the point where it ends. There's also some current strats. So, if you think that the current Any% route is bad - this information can help to come with a better ideas.
INTRO
A quick note before we start. There are some essential upgrades for the speedrun, that you can miss. These are:
-
Sprint: You may miss mobilizing the strike team for the first time. I would recommend doing that by smashing as much items on your way as possible by jumping to the Enclave and Rick Jones – Part 4 mission. You’ll kill 30 enclave legionaries naturally, but also don’t just stay, when you have to wait for the script in some missions – move, move, move – that way you’ll travel a required number of miles much faster.
-
Fury attacks: You must unlock it before the Bi-Beast fight. All required feats might be completed naturally, but you may still miss climbing. So, when you unlock sprint and you have nothing to do in missions – CLIMB, don’t just stay. I already missed this power in some of my runs and that’s a pain! A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 3 is the best place to climb, because you must wait and protect the building and there is a great possibility to use this time with the profit.
-
Car use: You need it before A Friend Who Can Help – Part 1 mission, so try to destroy 10 cars before that. 99% chance you’ll get it naturally.
-
Superior Jump: You will get it naturally, but only if you completed at least one jump challenge. It's those yellow rings. You can easily get one on the building with the last bomb during A Friend Who Can Help – Part 4 mission. It's not a very necessary upgrade, but it's helpful.
-
Health: For that you can dupe 60 canisters from the one before the Enclave and Rick Jones – Part 3 mission.
Also, what is the act in this game? Act is when you complete a set of missions required to get the next set of missions. And you unlock mini-games after every act (except the first one, maybe, but I really want to set The Enclave and Rick Jones in the separate “tutorial-like” act).
ACT 1
The game begins with He Must Not Escape mission, so you need to just run through it and then The Enclave and Rick Jones – Part 1 will start automatically when you reach the city. After this mission you already can roam freely, but you have only one real target – The Enclave and Rick Jones – Part 2 right next to you. After that mission you must choose between two missions.
The closest one is The Enclave and Rick Jones – Part 3. Just near that mission on the building to the right you can hear a gamma canister. This one is dupable! Dupe at least 60 cans from that (I don’t recommend going for 100, because 60 is already enough). Without major health upgrades the run will be a pain! Then go to the mission. After you beat it, you’ll be spawned close to the next mission, so there’s obviously no need to change that routing.
On your way to the next mission try to jump on as many things on your way as possible. That way you’ll mobilize a strike team for the first time and unlock the sprinting ability by the end of the mission. That’s where the real speedrun starts! During this mission you can also complete the first jump challenge (near the building with the last bomb) and get a better jump later.
The last TEARJ mission will be very close and when you defeat the Kyklops in that mission – you’ll finally get the right to choose between missions and create different routes!
ACT 2
The closest one to the Hulk is A Friend Who Can Help – Part 1, so I choose it. These are the maps for missions and the destination after them. Green dot is the mission. Red is where you will spawn in the end.
If I draw a circle instead of the dot – it means you can travel here before the mission is even over, the Hulk won’t be respawned. Also, if you see a purple circle – hit this subway station when you go by – you’ll need it!
Each mission part unlocks after you complete the previous, so at the start you have only A Friend Who Can Help – Part 1, Enclave Is On The Move – Part 1 and Just Take Him Down – Part 1.
-
A Friend Who Can Help – Part 1 (you finish in the same spot where the mission was)
-
A Friend Who Can Help – Part 2
-
A Friend Who Can Help – Part 3. As you can see, it spawns Hulk very close to the first Enclave Is On The Move mission. That’s why I decided to take it first.
-
A Friend Who Can Help – Part 4
-
Enclave Is On The Move – Part 1. Hit the subway station before you start the mission!
-
Enclave Is On The Move – Part 2
-
Enclave Is On The Move – Part 3. It spawns Hulk very close to the last A Friend Who Can Help mission.
-
Enclave Is On The Move – Part 4. Just Take Him Down is much closer, than the last Enclave Mission. HIT THE SUBWAY STATION IN THE RED CIRCLE! You’ll need it.
-
Enclave Is On The Move – Part 5
-
Just Take Him Down – Part 1
-
Just Take Him Down – Part 2
For now, the optimal route as I see it is:
- A Friend Who Can Help – Part 1
- A Friend Who Can Help – Part 2
- A Friend Who Can Help – Part 3
- Enclave Is On The Move – Part 1. Touch the subway station next to it, before the mission.
- Enclave Is On The Move – Part 2
- Enclave Is On The Move – Part 3
- A Friend Who Can Help – Part 4
- Enclave is On The Move – Part 4. Touch the Cathedral Parkway station on your way to JTHD – you’ll need it in the beginning of ACT 4.
- Just Take Him Down – Part 1
- Just Take Him Down – Part 2. Use the closest subway station and get to the previously unlocked station next to the Enclave Is On The Move – Part 5 mission!
- Enclave Is On The Move – Part 5
That’s it for the second act. With all the time saves it shouldn’t take much time and the missions are mostly simple.
ACT 3
Now if you took the route I suggested, then you’ll be kinda far from new missions. Save and quit and then load the game again – you’ll be close to A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 1 mission. But I would just run to This Guy’s Bad News – Part 1 without quitting. I HIGHLY recommend going for the reds before the next orange enclave missions, because you still need to destroy more army units and TGBN is perfect for that. If you fight Bi-Beast in the last AMMCD part without fury attacks – that will be bad. Once again, here are the missions:
-
A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 1
-
A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 2
-
A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 3
-
A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 4
-
A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 5
-
This Guy’s Bad News – Part 1
-
This Guy’s Bad News – Part 2
-
This Guy’s Bad News – Part 3
And hence the routing:
- This Guy’s Bad News – Part 1
- This Guy’s Bad News – Part 2
- This Guy’s Bad News – Part 3. It’ll spawn you close to the first AMMCD mission.
- A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 1
- A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 2
- A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 3
- A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 4
- A Mass Mind Control Device – Part 5
That’s it for the third act… It’s short and by the end of the act you’ll definitely have all the essential speedrunning abilities already!
ACT 4
Yeah, now all the missions are pretty far from you. Time to use the subway? If you got the Cathedral Parkway station when you cleaned up the contaminated areas – enter the Times Square station and move to the CP station. And the closest mission is The Problem Is The Hulk, but complete We’re Not Giving Up first. Then at the end of The Problem Is The Hulk you’ll be spawned right next to Our Old Research Data mission.
Maybe there’s a way to somehow touch the subway near Our Old Research Data naturally and then go for TPISH -> WNGU -> OORD route. That would be even faster.
-
We’re Not Giving Up – Part 1
-
We’re Not Giving Up – Part 2
-
The Problem Is The Hulk – Part 1
-
The Problem Is The Hulk – Part 2
-
The Problem Is The Hulk – Part 3
-
Our Old Research Data
For now the route for the act:
- We’re Not Giving Up – Part 1
- We’re Not Giving Up – Part 2. Now take the subway (Grand Central Station) to the Cathedral Parkway and you’ll be close to the next mission.
- The Problem Is The Hulk - Part 1
- The Problem Is The Hulk - Part 2
- The Problem Is The Hulk - Part 3.
- Our Old Research Data.
ACT 5
Now you can use the subway station near Our Old Research Data mission and get to The Lesser Of Two Evils – Part 1. This act really doesn’t have other missions, so you must go the only straightforward way.
-
The Lesser Of Two Evils – Part 1
-
The Lesser Of Two Evils – Part 2
-
The Lesser Of Two Evils – Part 3
That’s it… Very short act with a strict order of missions.
ACT 6
The final act of the game. We Can Use Their Technology is closer. However, I doubt you have any subways near that mission, so you need to run to that…
-
We Can Use Their Technology – Part 1
-
We Can Use Their Technology – Part 2
-
It’s Time To End This – Part 1
-
It’s Time To End This – Part 2
-
It’s Time To End This – Part 3
-
We’ve Got The Antidote Now. I placed the red dot just in case this helps for the 100% routing, but for any% it has no point, because this is the last mission.
So the route for the last act is:
- We Can Use Their Technology – Part 1
- We Can Use Their Technology – Part 2
- It’s Time To End This – Part 1
- It’s Time To End This – Part 2
- It’s Time To End This – Part 3
- We’ve Got The Antidote Now
OUTRO
Well, for most acts the route is really straightforward, but some of them have a room for improvement of the fastest mission order. We shouldn't forget that we have a subway system in this game and it would be a clever move to find less obvious ways to use it.
Hi guys! In case you didn't know - pastgen (PC/PS2/Wii) and nextgen (X360/PS3) versions are very different and so the locations of all the collectibles. For years there was a guide only for nextgen version, so I decided to spend days creating a guide for the pastgen version as well. So finally, 100%
