Hey! This guide shows you how to do the Calamity King Slime speedrun. This run uses 1 world, but as Max Overpower did, you can use a second world to fight the boss (Note: if using the 2nd world, you will usually get a slower time than someone who uses only 1) (Note 2: Remember, you will be resetting a lot, so don’t attempt this run if you don’t have any patience!)

The glitches used in this route are:
Item frame dupe (also known as soft dupe), Hard dupe (dupe with restart), Rope scan glitch, Duck glitch, Hoiking to shoot through a solid 1-thick wall.

I recommend practicing certain things in test worlds before you start, specifically:
Building a duck glitch, Dodging Moon Lord lasers in the ‘duck arena’, making a cave cabin into 2 small NPC houses, Fighting Wall of Flesh with dynamite, Performing item frame, 'hard' and door dupes, using rope scan glitch

1 - Merchant house. 
Merchant NPC is required for buying a bug net and a sickle, nurse is only necessary in expert runs.
In unseeded runs you only need 2 NPC houses - one is taken by guide, and the first to move in is always merchant. Merchant will move in even if you’ve killed guide via Wall of Flesh.
For expert runs, you will need the nurse, and she usually moves in second, before you have to free the mechanic in dungeon, but If not - make another house.
To build the houses, you can use a 11x5 platform design, but a faster way to do it is to make the first cave cabin you find into houses. When doing that, make sure you don't get Guide killed as he will slowly walk towards the new house, potentially drowning himself in some pool in a minute or two.
Getting merchant day 1 is not necessary, but if he moves into your cave house far from spawn, you could build another house at spawn to force him there at first night.

2 - Pre-Hardmode.
Things to remember to get in Pre-Hardmode are Dynamite, King Slime spawners, a vertebrae, a lens, two NPC houses, a duck or artificial water pool(s) for it to spawn. Keep stone, chain and gold/platinum bars for later.

The first thing you need to do is look for a cave to find 1 dynamite in. Jungle is always a preference for this part because it has its own cave entrance(s), on top of having the mountain-like ones, found anywhere outside of desert. Before going into a cave, try to get at least 2 tall trees of wood, this will usually supply for cave housing and platform movement.
Grenades are the strongest weapon against non-boss enemies you'll get in Pre-Hardmode, and they are only found in wooden chests, jungle has a lot of them and it's often worth checking the surface thoroughly before entering a cave, just to get them. A second option would be gold/platinum bow.
When you find a dynamite, it might be worth to very briefly check the easily accessible remains of the cave for ruby or chests. Getting any one gem for a hook is preferable before hard dupe, as it makes the initial descend a lot easier.
When you hard dupe, you can put anything in the chest, not just the items you have one of (in 2p remember to dupe useful accesories to give to your partner).
If you get two dynamite, you could skip the hard dupe, but keep in mind that you'll need the following to set up item frame dupe:
8 iron bars + any 4 bars, a chest and ~30 wood
OR
3 iron ore, 20 stone for a furnace and a bit more wood, then use door dupe to get the bars.
If you have some other things you'd like to double, And you are are able to restart the game quickly, it can be worth to hard dupe anyway (e.g. you have 6 lead bars, hard duping will let you skip the door dupe; you have 1 random teleport potion).
Use sticky dynamite for making a hellevator, and try to get mats for slime crowns before night - early first night. 
When you get crowns and gel, run to crimson (ice biome is generally more likely to have it), kill all the demon eyes for 1 lens, get 1 vertebrae, 2 slime crowns to dupe and crimson blocks to potentially make an artificial biome.
Make one or several water pools just off screen at spawn for a duck to spawn.
When you do that, build a bridge with stone(!) towards jungle and kill Wall of Flesh with dynamite, this can take as little as <300 blocks worth of bridge, but if you’re having trouble, make a practice world for it and copy paste the world to retry.
If you haven’t gotten a wooden crate yet, preferably try to get the pwnhammer, always check the loot for an easy ranger emblem grab.

3 - Souls, Mechanical bosses
Just after Wall of Flesh don’t hurry to recall, as there might be a hallow or crimson biome right above you, and if there is, you should try to get 1 soul (2 if you’ve hard duped crates already) from random enemies. Summoning King slime for the souls here is optional. If the biome is crimson you can try to get ichor. If the biome is hallow you should always get some pearlstone to dupe.
From there your goal is either to kill 3 mech bosses at second night, or if that seems too hard - get an Enchanted Sundial asap and use it to rewind time to start the of the day, and you'll have 15 full minutes for all the early-hardmode prep.
Assuming you Didn’t get a free soul while in hell, you might find yourself at spawn with just grenades and no crates. If merchant is in - you should get a net and sickle from him and fish for one (wooden gives hardmode ore that is required for making chlorophyte, Iron also works, but you’ll have to smash altars, gold crate - not good). 
When you have a crate, hard dupe it, as well as lens, vertebrae, duck if you have it, and some other optional stuff.
With crates, get a titanium set and some arrows, jesters’ are a nice upgrade but wooden arrows will be needed shortly.
You Need to get a unicorn horn for holy arrows before night time, if you don’t have a merchant by the start hardmode, or if you’re doing a 2p run and splitting tasks, one person should go for a unicorn right away, even with grenades. Make sure to get 3 pixie dust as well.
In surface hallow, get pearlstone for an artificial underground hallow if you don’t have the souls already. Optionally, build an artificial one for unicorn if it’s bad.
When you have a titanium set and holy arrows, dive into the hellevator to look for soul biomes, make artificial for ones you don’t have (remember about the crimson blocks from pre-hardmode).
If you haven't gotten a slime mount yet, get into a cave where King slime will teleport to you and farm for one (in expert, get 2 bags and dupe them). In 2p you can have one player 'use' the mount and pass it to the other player, so a second mount isn't necessary, but you can Hard dupe it later along with Daedalus or a duck, for convenience.
When you have the souls, make light keys, summon 8-12 (10-16 for 2p) mimics for Daedalus Stormbow while invincible on target dummies, kill them with holy arrows using this arena https://imgur.com/a/P2AhaSy .
Go to dungeon, kill Skeletron, get bones; wiring, levers and actuators from mechanic.
Add a horizontal layer of blocks to the top of your mimic arena and use it for fighting the 3 Mech bosses.
Optionally, if you have a blowpipe and ichor, you can use the piercing ichor darts to debuff mimics, Skeletron Prime and Twins.
(Needless to say, that's plenty of things to split up between the players in 2p runs, so these tasks are usually split on the go)

4 - Plantera and Golem
Plantera in random worlds can take any amount of time to spawn, so if you either have teleport potions or just want some consistency over super fast times - you should go to dungeon and set up the duck arena like this before Plantera
 https://imgur.com/a/kh5Qtjs (add a nurse house below the box if you’re on expert). The target dummy set up is only for cultist, remove it before Moon Lord fight. Learn to build and use this glitch beforehand.
Before going to jungle take a hardmode anvil and forge, if you got iron crates and no hardmode ores, smash at least 3 altars. In jungle get 2 chlorophyte and set up item frame dupe somewhere there’s no background wall, roll for a good-modifier repeater, (If you choose to make chlorophyte armor, which I don't recommend, make sure to use the ranger helmet for higher damage).
An effective way to search for Plantera is to dynamite down from the middle of the jungle until you hit an open cave, explore it to the dead ends, continue going down to hell. When you’ve explored the open parts, use the Rope scan glitch to explore horizontal portions that you’ve missed. Jungle shape can be unpredictable. When you’ve located Plantera, put target dummies and kill it with wooden or ichor arrows (if you have them), fighting it face to face with just an armor set is very risky, so unless you’ve practiced it - don’t take the risk.
With Plantera killed, you can now actuate in through the bottom of jungle temple, and take the Altar & Golem summoning item with you. Fight it at mech boss arena.

5 - Ducks, Moon Lord
If you haven’t built a cultist arena before Plantera, make one when you get to dungeon, as shown in the Imgur link above. If cultist doesn’t spawn right away, run off screen for 10+ second periods of time and it should be almost instant.
Make sure to be in multiplayer at this point.
Turn on the 1-second timer attached to ducks and spawn cultist, fight him similarly to the mechs, make sure none of Cultist’s adds are alive when you finish him.
Ducks should prevent any pillars from spawning, and instantly start the 1-minute screen flashing before Moon Lord.
Use Chlorophyte shotbow for hands and the heart, and Daedalus Stormbow for the main eye. With holy arrows.
Make sure ducks are not capped to 200 when Moon Lord spawns, but activate the timer as soon as the fight starts.
Staying inside the box will protect you from all attacks except for lasers, so you’re gonna have to dodge some of those. You have the nurse in expert but dodging lasers is still preferable.
The method I like to use is stay on the platform in the middle, and just before the lasers shoot I press down, and about 1-2 blocks of fall later - jump back up using a double-jump bottle (dropped from crates).

This is the result of a ton of work; nearly one hundred attempts on this seed alone. I’ve been speedrunning Terraria for two years and there is no run I’m more proud of than this one. The story of why this one is so special is owed to two other runners: BandsWithLegends and MaxOverPower. BandsWithLegends found the seed used for this run after hours and hours of searching (I will talk about why it is so special later) and set a strong record WR at 1:11:04 beating the previous 1:37:36. It took three months for me to submit a run that broke this record at 1:05:03 and less than a month later MaxOverPower takes the record for himself with 1:03:32. That wasn’t enough for Max though, because three days later he submits an insane run at 1:02:03.

Max’s run is amazing because he does a few things that no other runners are doing at the time; earning seconds by focusing on DPS. Most of the time during runs you are simply trying to get all the ingredients together that you need for a successful run. Max added all the things possible on top of that to increase his damage. Even telling to me that food was not something you could skip as it provides a 5% damage increase. The level of absolute grind and focus required to get everything to fall in place for this run has become staggering. I firmly believe that without Max there is no way that the ML record would be what it is today. I’m also quite sure that if he wanted to badly enough he would be able to reclaim his WR.

The Seed:
The seed for this run is 908319048, Small, Crimson, Normal as I mentioned before credit to BandsWithLegends for finding this seed. Right off the bat this seed has a few incredible things going on for it:

An old school enchanted sword spawn

Enough iron bars for the dupe glitch in a chest

A sandstorm in a bottle for mobility

Two easy hearts

Diamonds for a lovely hook

Teleportation potions

Rubies for King Slime later

An easily accessible hive for a 7 minute queen bee & free arena

A tree that will provide a bit of extra housing on the cheap

We get our enchanted sword at 20 seconds, providing us with a great weapon for self defence and taking down queen bee.

The bars and the 2 chest themselves only a few blocks away from the sword allow us to get our dupe glitch going as quickly as we can. Which eliminates much of the farming, wood chopping, and grind that is required for a successful run.

The sandstorm in a bottle in concert with our diamond hook will allow us great mobility throughout the game so much so that wings are optional all the way up to Moonlord. With two hearts, we have max hp as soon as we get back to our dupe machine!

I’m always impressed by how powerful the diamond hook is, its reach and speed save us a lot of time on movement.

Teleportation potions are the new bread and butter of runs since you can have as many as you want. They let us get to all the points on the map that we so desperately need to visit without an insane amount of digging. It also allows you to make a few mistakes and possibly recover because of some lucky teleports.

The rubies we grab will allow us to get the slimy saddle, used for another glitch, as well as souls of night and souls of light very quickly.

Queen Bee on Expert is a really tough boss, but not so much so on normal. If we get her into the tree just right it is easy to bring her down. Especially since the hearts we grabbed earlier will put us at max hp.

The same lovely tree that has provided for us all game can be turned into two houses, or more, very quickly saving us a bit of time early on.

Glitches:
Since i’ve talked about the dupe glitch a bit already let's discuss all the glitches that we use during the run. First off, if you have any questions about what is and what is not allowed consult the official rules of https://www.speedrun.com/terraria1.3.x I do not make the rules, I’m not a moderator there, I simply follow them.

The number one glitch you are probably interested in is what I call the “soft dupe” glitch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G834FHpxODY This video is kind of a poor tutorial of an early version of the glitch, but it works. I’m not sure exactly how this glitch functions but I know it depends on multiplayer, and item frames. The biggest crux of this glitch is that you need a few materials to start it off and that it cannot duplicate singular items. This is where the “hard dupe” comes in.

Just as important is the “hard dupe”. This dupe takes far longer to do, even requiring a reset of the game, but allows us to turn one item into two. This is critically important for some circumstances since the soft dupe requires two of an item to duplicate. Used smartly this glitch will propel you to a much faster “soft dupe”.

Last, but not least, is the slime mount invincibility glitch which I found from Mappy Gaming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8SCT_4OC1M This is a simple one that allows us to take no damage from any boss (expect moonlord). Again i’m not sure how this works exactly, I just know that it has something to do with how invincibility frames are given to the player. It is very cheap to pull off, only requiring the use of a slimy saddle, some hay and some wood. This glitch effectively trivializes all the bosses in the game with the exception of Moonlord who has his own damage frames.

The Run:
First off I want to talk about the natural choke point that exists at 37 minutes. The mechanical bosses can only be summoned at night and since you cannot kill them on night one the earliest it is possible is night two which is around 37:15 depending on how you used your hard dupe or save exit recalls. Because of this effectively all the things that occur before are only preparation for that moment and the real speedrun begins the second they can be spawned. This is where high dps is of the utmost concern. Killing mechs fast will lead to a fast Plantera into a fast golem and so fourth.

So the question stands: Where did I save a minute and forty four seconds over Max’s time? At Plantera we had saved 17 seconds, setting the fastest ever Plantera and giving us the chance for the WR. This lead increased on golem kill to 24 seconds, still not huge, but on pace! A lucky TP pot here gets us to cultist before he is even available to be killed. On top of that, I had pre-built the arena for him in pre-hardmode.Sometimes the boys can take some time to spawn, but I get lucky with only a few seconds lost waiting for them. A quick flight to the right of the dungeon and back has them waiting for the pain. Suddenly I’m a minute and fifty seconds ahead of WR time. At this point unless I mess it up the record is mine. Fortune smiles on me and puts the vortex pillar, the most important, just to the right of my base. From there, and with some lucky tp pots, everything is in the bag. I still think a time improvement is possible, go out there and get sub-1 hour!

[1.3] Normal Moonlord Unseeded Route Guide - 1.3 (No Dupe)

You’re on the TL:DR guide of the no-seed 1p Moon Lord Speedrun

In this guide there are only the main points you have to go for.
No advices for gear, weapons, potions, craft, houses, accessories, exploration for heart as well as tons of grammar error and mispels…
I also imply you have a crafting table, an anvil and a furnace near you at any point during the game except for the orichalcum/mythril anvil. You will also need some iron bars (18 is mandatory for the run) 
And finally this guide was written for poeple who already played the game casually and know like 70% of the contents (weapon, npcs, blocks, enemies, bosses) of the game.

If you have any question, read the whole speedrun.com guide. This guide gives only a quick look over the whole run. I’m gonna write the complete guide soon, but It may takes some time to explain every single details of the run

Make sure to read it whole before starting your run.

In Order :

1) Make enough houses for the nurse, the merchant and the arms dealer to move in. (Note that you should find at least ONE gun in the whole run for the arms dealer to spawn - shotgun or musket/undertaker). 6 houses should be more than enough

2) Stuff yourself enough to kill the wall of flesh

3) Get some 30 bombs before going in the underworld.

4) Gather 20 obsidian with your bombs while you’re going down there

5) Kill the wall of flesh.

6) Before going back at the surface, mine the hellstone with bombs (you need 60, yes the hellstone is breakable with bombs AFTER you kill the WOF) and take 1 hellforge back with you.

7) Craft a molten pickaxe  

8*) Before or after you killed the WOF you need to gather 3 lenses, 6 rotten chunk/vertebrae, 30 bones (Yes you need to kill skeletron during the night to enter the dungeon and gather the bones. And yes the lenses are droppable only during the night)

9) Break some demon altar with the pwnhammer.

10) Go mine your t1 hardmode ore (Cobalt or Palladium) to get a pickaxe/drill. Caution : The amount of ore needed to craft a pickaxe varies between the 2 minerals. + you might want to craft some armor or weapon.

11) Mine your t2 hardmode ore (Mythril or Orichalcum) to get an anvil. Caution : The amount of ore needed to craft the anvil varies between the 2 minerals

12) When mining all that you have to find the underground hallowed biome + underground corrupted biome to farm both of the souls needed for the mechanicals : 9 Souls of light and 9 souls of night

13) Craft the 3 mech boss items (mechanical Eye/Skull/Worm)

14) Kill the 3 mechs in one single night if possible.

15) craft a “Drax” or a “Pickaxe axe” with the hallowed bars.

16) Take your hellforge and anvil with you and go in the jungle to find chlorophyte and plantera.

17) It is highly recommended to farm for unicorns and their horns (at least 8 ) before going looking for plantera. You can make holy arrows which are definitely overpowered 

18) Mine for chlorophyte to make a chlorophyte shotbow (and some more armor if you need). Keep at least 10+ bars to make chlorophyte bullets latter on.

19) Find plantera ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°

20) Kill it with all your might

21) Go in the temple to kill the golem.

22) Kill the cultist (Caution : The cultist might not appear if you rush instantly the dungeon. If you reach the dungeon and no one has spawned yet, just mirror back to your spawn and rush it again. The cultist should spawn) Dont forget to pick up the Ancient Manipulator drop from the cultist.

23) Destroy the pillars. You should destroy the Stardust OR Vortex pillar first to craft the Stardust Dragon OR the Vortex Beater. You need both to kill the ML as fast as possible.

24) Craft chlorophyte Bullets and destroy the Sollar and Nebula pillars with the vortex beater and the dragon.

26) Kill the Moon Lord while spamming nurse healing. Be careful to leave the dialogue box otherwise she won’t heal herself and die to the ML. Congratz you finished the run :)

___________________SLIME SADDLE GLITCH________________________

The slime saddle glitch abuse an "invinciblity-frame glitch". When you jump on an enemy with the king slime saddle, you're invulnerable to most damage for a very short moment (1 or 2 frames). So the glitch requires you to craft 2 dummies and placing them under you while you use the slime saddle. You place some blocks over you and you infininetly jump on them and can't take any damage. But you can hardly move, otherwise you might take some damage.
For the complete guide I'll be adding some pics and details about the mechs fights and the glitch.

Farming for it :
The way I see it, you should always be looking around for some rubies + gold + kill all the slimes you meet to craft a maximum of Slime Crown. Since the king slime spawn a tons of weak enemies, you can use them to farm the souls of night and light if you're spawning the king slime underground, which I recommend.

-Generate 5 worlds on normal small crimson with the following seeds:
4012154 - wooden chest
1634010587 - ruby
245282676 - pre-hardmode
24185 - hardmode
1978672202 - large lake for getting a duck and fishing
-They will be referred to a A, B, C, D, E respectively.
-Using a world viewer program of your choice, make sure you got the right world generation on all of them, without entering the worlds.
-Once that's done, make a folder in 'Worlds', copy & paste all 5 worlds there. Generation is NOT required in seeded runs.
-A good estimate time assuming plantera bulb RNG is nice, is ~45 minutes.
-All steps up until [34] Are ideally done before night starts in world D, and the earlier you get to world D, the earlier you'll be able to fight nocturnal mech bosses.

[1] Enter world A, loot the wooden chest and pick it up, 'Favorite' blowpipe so you don't trash it.

[2] Enter world B, get 2 ruby.

[3] Enter world C, run to the living tree, chop the 2 tallest trees on your way there.

[4] Once in the living tree room, loot chest using smart cursor, place platforms on the left side of the chest to 
outline the 2 npc rooms, make a workbench & pick up the chair for the second one, make 2 rooms.

[5] Break the 2 doors to expand the right NPC room, and manually move guide into the other one. This, 
supposedly, helps merchant move in faster.

[6] Go down the tree, pick up a heart, loot the first golden chest, recall.

[7] Set up an item frame dupe station.

[8] Dupe Wood, platforms, lead, grenades, rubies, recalls, tp pots. If merchant doesn't move in when you're done, dupe other stuff needed in the future (e.g. chests). Make and dupe water buckets to use for duck engine later.

[9] When merchant moves in buy a net and a sickle.

[10] Pay attention to quacking, if a duck ever spawns in this world - catch it.

[11] Get 2+ hay, look for 2 worms, run straight to the left if you can't find them in the first few rocks. Make use of hook.

[12] Make a fishing rod if you haven't, dupe worms and hay, craft target dummies, pick up the anvil, workbench and item frame.

[13] Randomly teleport until you find crimson (both of them are on the right side of the map).

[14] Get 1 vertebrae, and a water candle at the entrance of the dungeon.

[15] Go to world E in singleplayer, jump down, fish in the right side pool for 1 wooden/iron crate and a fish, preferably a salmon, and catch a duck. Utilize water candle and teleport potions' ability to quickly despawn all unwanted mobs to get the duck.

[16] Enter world D. 'Hard dupe' certain items by putting them in a chest: Duck, crate (wooden or iron), vertebrae, dynamite, heart crystal and water candle, ALT F4.

[17] Open world D. Set up item frame dupe slightly above ground, get 3 stacks of dynamite, ~2 stacks of crates, dupe heart crystals, water candles and food. Make sure you have mats for 4 slime crowns, dummies. 'Favorite' gold bars and a chain.

[18] Place 3 chests, quickly transfer all into one, spam open the crates until you get a jump bottle and boots, keep buff potions if you like. Transfer all the other crate loot into a second chest, take all from the first.

[19] Teleport until you're in hell, preferably right side of the world, note that you need a hell forge from the cabins.

[20] Build a bridge around 400 blocks long, if you don't have a doll when its finished, you can keep building. Place water candles on the way.

[21] Once WoF is down (use dynamite), see if theres a ranger emblem.

[22] Set up item frame dupe. Transfer all into a chest, open crates until you have hardmode-anvil bars and titanium, or a full inventory, transfer all into second chest, keep trying until you have the mentioned items.

[23] Make anvil(s), a titanium set, and a hardmode forge. Trash the mats.

[24] Take all from the first chest, roll tp pots for left side of the world, when you're in the middle of surface hallow, place a water candle, get 1 unicorn horn and 3 pixie dust.

[25] Run to the crimson chasm on the right, make 1 craft of holy arrows; make 4 slime spawners. Utilize holy arrows for getting souls.

[26] Using a slime, gel souls of light, go into the top right most passage to the orb, dig right past it, ignoring the orb. Take archery potions from the ice chest.

[27] Make your way into the second crimson cave to the right.

[28] Get souls of night and a piece of ichor, recall.

[29] Dupe souls and holy arrows, archery potions, craft ichor darts and arrows, a Destroyer summonning item and hallowed keys.

[30] If you didn't get a slimy saddle go into the pit to the left of spawn and farm king slimes there.

[31] Go up ~15 blocks from the dupe station using platforms, make a closed off target-dummy invinsibility 
machine like this https://imgur.com/a/c946DWz . Summon ~10 hallowed mimics. Apply ichor with blowpipe and use holy arrows to kill them, be careful because holy arrows might momentarily make dummies not work, if the stars reach them through mimics.

[32] As soon as you get daedalus, you can tp away to despawn them, add a layer of blocks above the dummies to prevent holy arrows from reaching dummies during mechs.

[33] Make a destroyer spawner and teleport to dungeon.

[34] Fight skeletron. If you don't have a lens yet, you can set up a dummy arena with the same block-layers 
outside dungeon, make it slightly above the ground and fight destroyer there, and grind lens in the meantime. Use a water candle during the fight.

[35] In the dungeon, get 2 bones, find mechanic, buy levers, 8+ actuators, wrench & cutter, some wires to be duped later. Pick up a dart trap.

[36] Recall, if you don't have a lens yet, place a candle and wait for one. Hard dupe it, or optionally, try to get a second lens.

[37] Use the target dummies to kill remaining mechs. When prime and eyes dash into you, apply ichor with blowpipe.

[38] Make duck statues and a 1-second timer, dupe wires.

[39] Go to dungeon and build an arena identical to this one: https://imgur.com/a/2SqYdme (timer connected to ducks, second switch connected to a dart trap, dummies are used to fight cultist and can be removed afterwards).

[40] Recall, take a hardmode forge and anvil, roll teleports until you hit jungle, find 2 chlorophyte ore.

[41] Find a spot without background walls in jungle, set up a dupe and make a chlorophyte repeater with good modifier.

[42] Now try to cover as much jungle as possible quickly to find Plantera bulb.

[43] Use target dummies and ichor arrows to kill Plantera.

[44] Follow a rail that goes through granite biome, get to the bottom right of the temple, using actuators get into the temple and pop the shrine, get a summoning item. Fight golem at the mech arena.

[45] Make sure you're in multiplayer, roll teleports for dungeon. When cultists are there, start the duck machine and summon the boss. Use target dummies in the arena shown above.

[46] Ducks will prevent celestial pillars from spawning, but make sure they're dead before Moon Lord spawns. When he does, hit the duck switch and leave it on (so that True eyes of cthulhu don't spawn). If you're worried that you might hit a switch during the fight, break the switches when they're on.

1.4 - Consistent Pillar Skip & Moon Lord instakill with bees

1.4.1 Added an option to craft beehives, identical to the ones found in jungle. 1.4 also made those bees hostile towards enemies, just as much as towards the player.
**Journey mode** meta has since shifted to using the beehives for killing bosses, skipping pillars, and even making Moon Lord die in under 2 seconds.

**Pillar Skip**

There is a limit of 200 NPCs active in the world, and by reaching this limit, you can prevent other NPCs from spawning, even if they are forced to. So is the case with pillars -- you cap the entity limit, kill cultist, and skip straight to the 1 minute countdown before Moon Lord spawning.

This skip has been quite problematic with bees though, because, supposedly, bees can't take up the '0 entity slot', which often leads to one pillar spawning. Luckily, Cultist under 50% HP can use attacks that count as mobs an take up the last entity slot (and linger after the boss is dead). We can use them to ensure the skip works.

This compilation with images explains the process of building the setup needed to utilize Cultist's star attack to failproof the skip. Applicable to any dungeon layout.

Builder potion gives you +1 reach and increased placement speed. The former makes the setup a little simpler, and the latter potentially lets you do the skip several Cultist attacks sooner. The differences in setup are explained at the bottom of the google doc.

If you did fail though, say, by killing him after the one star disappeared, and didn't get the green message saying Moon Lord is gonna spawn - you can still finish the run, as the bees can hit pillars through the shield; if you only got one pillar to spawn, it might not be that bad, depending on where the dungeon is.

**Moon Lord 1.5 second kill**

Moon Lord spawns a specific amount of blocks above the player. By making a box with master mode bees at the right height we can kill him nearly instantly, and skip the 10 second death animation.

**Corrections**

4:06 - I called non-underground deserts 'real' deserts by mistake, usually I'd refer to them as 'fake' deserts instead. The underground desert usually spawns on the same side as jungle (and most commonly, before the jungle). A big drop like this is a sign of underground desert, because a fake would just spawn on the same height as other terrain. Also, corruption can Never touch and corrupt the sand of an underground desert in pre-hardmode.
9:26 - We did in fact see an altar in jungle, but I likely forgot about it during the run. Even then, it's not guaranteed going for it would have been the better choice. If you first travel to jungle, and then kill the mechs, then there'll be less time for Plantera Bulbs to spawn before you start searching. If you don't have a goat skull though, you should cut any corners - and always go for altars on the jungle side.
14:42 - 'Hoik' is a common name for clipping through blocks in terraria. You can do it sideways, upwards, and downwards, though the last is much harder and probably not worth it. I linked a guide on hoiking above.
31:54 - I never did explain how scarab bombs can be useful. There's 2 reasons: Killing yourself, and bombing through the part where I get hive blocks more cleanly. The way I did both of those things in my run is better and more consistent, so just ignore scarab bombs.
43:09 - The new no-conch route itself is pretty mad to attempt, as I said, but the 'Seeded Route Improvements' part as outlined on the youtube video is still worth a watch, - that run is more recent and involves a dozen of optimizations throughout the Wall of Flesh split on the main world, many of which are easy to use with the conch route too.
The 4th world in that video is a backup world with a conch - so that I can finish a run even if the tp pots don't roll well, which I did end up using in that run, and got a time of 6:27.
45:22 - Just throw all 3 bombs in the same spot where i put the first 2. What I did in that video, evidently, doesn't get you 25 hives consistently. I've found that putting all 3 in the first spot also makes it easier to get out of the honey.

1.4 - Master, Hardcore, All Bosses, NMA, Random Seed Route/Guide

Naturally, the strategies in this guide can be used in any other category such as normal, classic, all bosses, NMA.
I just chose to write for this route since any strategies for a harder route can be scaled back for an easier one but not always the other way around.

If anybody makes a video about this, I'll gladly include it in the main document and in this post.

1.4 Night's Edge Speedrun Guide - Random Seed NMA (Glitchless)

There's a reason obtaining Night's Edge is one of the 4 main categories on the leaderboard - it involves a lot of the early game content, without asking for annoying resource grinding, fitting into tight day-night cycle deadlines, - which in my opinion, makes it the best category for a beginner to get into, as well as a good way to polish your skills at early game navigation, sharper movement and other things.

The exact category in question is 1.4 NMA, Random. NMA stands for No Major Abuses, which means no glitching, as well as only using one world (view rules for more). World Record at the time of writing is 21:11.

The route consists of 5 main parts:
- Getting ready for Brain of Cthulhu, finding Boomstick if possible
- Getting ore and tissue from BoC phase 1, optionally, also phase 2
- Night 1 Skeletron, getting Muramasa
- Using Jungle cave to navigate to Hell, getting Blade of Grass on the way, making Fiery sword
- Finding the closest crimson altar

1) Don't build houses. Start walking, hitting trees once for a chance to get food that grants a movement speed boost. Chop 2-3 trees when you find somewhat tall ones.

The better side to go is always jungle side. Along with normal mountain-like cave entrances, and a lesser chance for evil biome, Jungle offers its own cave entrance, that may get blocked by a beehive among other things, but is still, most of the time, a sure way to get deep into the underground jungle.
Underground desert, which sometimes has clear cave entrances on the surface, is always* on the same side as jungle. Meanwhile, spotting a desert covered by crimson, or finding an early double crimson (1 chasm per crimson biome), is a sure way to know you're heading in the direction of snow biome.

2) To fight Brain, grenades can be incredibly useful, so burning a few seconds to get a wooden chest is usually worth it. If you find any jester arrows, a decent bow will take care of phase 1 no problem (though, a wooden bow will be quite effective too). If you're comfortable enough with your mobility, you can try to pick up the drop from the last orb in case it is crimson rod.
There's a few ways to go about Brain. I'll list them in increasing difficulty.
- Using any weapons in your possession to clear phase 1, picking up drops, recalling.
- If you have throwing knives or boomstick, clearing phase 2 (viable if crimson is close to the dungeon)
- Setting spawn point at surface of the crimson, recalling with one or no creepers left, getting Brain to despawn by leaving crimson
- Clearing phase 1 until a single creeper is left, leaving crimson through the chasm entrance with Brain on your tail
3 of the methods above focus on keeping your location at the crimson, that is because the next step is to get to the dungeon and kill Skeletron, and the crimson often appears on the same side as the Dungeon, - which brings us to step 3.

3) Prepare 1 or 2 levels of platforms, not going far horizontally. If you have a crimson rod, try to get Skeletron as high as possible before he starts spinning, and lead him down the cloud's rain for max DPS.
The important thing now, is to see whether the first dungeon chest is a wooden one or not. If it's IS - you're gonna have a hard time finding muramasa.

Dungeon loot spawns based on a pattern, with order being determined by which chest generated first. Pattern:
Muramasa -> Cobalt Shield -> Aqua Scepter -> Blue Moon -> Magic Missile -> Valor -> a wooden chest with a golden key -> Handgun, then it repeats.
When the first chest spawns at 'surface level', it gets replaced with a wooden chest with a golden key, effectively, **overriding** your otherwise guaranteed Muramasa.

If that happens, you need to go deep and look for a Second-cycle Muramasa. A good way to do that is by finding another wooden chest, then trying to guess which one generated 2 chests later.
If not - then you need to break every pot and kill every enemy to get a golden key, then come back to the very first chest, because it is guaranteed to have Muramasa.

4) Often times you'll have Crimtane bars for more than just the necessary Pick and Sword. Crimson weapons can play a pretty big role in the run: If you don't have Boomstick, the mace can deal the most damage against Skeletron, otherwise, a bow and/or yo-yo will be helpful in farming the stingers.

The next step is go to hell through jungle.
If you run into a dead end, look for openings on the sides and below, dig and bomb to them to try and get down with minimal effort.
Keep in mind that you'll need 12 spores and 12 stingers, as well as 20 obsidian (!). Being just above hell when getting the final stingers can be annoying, with some hornets flying into lava.
Getting 60 hellstone as fast as possible is pretty trivial.

5) If you've explored any caves near spawn, there's a chance you've encountered an Altar - see if that's the case before going to the nearest crimson for one.

Another thing, there can be small enclosed holes underground, not connected to the outer world by any caves, and very occasionally, they have altars too. But if you open your map and see a piece of light somewhere you've never been, that does not mean that it's an Altar. Caves not previously accessed by the player have a weird feature where they randomly flash, emitting light out of nowhere.
So if you're not certain the light near spawn was emitted by an Altar, it's safer to go for a crimson chasm.

Hard dupe + Multiple Instances Guide (for mac people)

This is a re-creation of Max's guide on Hard Duping, but made specifically for mac people.

The Hard dupe is an exploit used to obtain 2 of an item. doing this multiple times will give you even more of that item. This is useful in categories such as Journey runs, in which one can research Boss Bags and earn a specified item from them.

Executing the dupe:
First of all, you need to open up your world and character in either multiplayer or singleplayer, put the items that you are wanting to dupe into your inventory, and then leave the world. Afterwords, you need to enter the world with that same character, but in multiplayer. Put the items that are in your inventory that you want to dupe into a chest, preferably empty, and then execute the following command: Cmd+Q (Alt+F4 will not work). This should close the game without logging out of the world. Once you enter the world again, you will see the items back in your inventory, as well as in the chest.

(Optional) Using multiple instances and a Local Server:
Although not necessary, using this method makes the process even faster. You will need to create a Local Server and be able to open multiple Instances of the game.

Creating a Server:
First of all, you need to have a terraria server running on your computer. Unless you go through the extra steps to, others may not join your world. You can download the server file at https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Server#Downloads. Nake sure you get the latest version of terraria. After you download the file, unzip it, open the unzipped file, click on mac, and store the "Terraria Server.app" file wherever you would like. Then, open up the file. If it says you can not open it because it is from an unidentified developer, got to System preferences, Security & Privacy, General, and look towards the bottom. Click on the lock in the bottom left and enter your username and password for your computer's main Admin profile. The go to the section labeled "Allow apps downloaded from:" and make sure "Anywhere is checked". You should now be able to open "Terraria Server.app". A prompt cautioning you that the file comes from an unidentified developer, and click "Open". Wait for a little until a list of all the worlds that you have on your computer come up, and identify which number the world that you want to dupe on has, and type that in and enter. After that there is a series of prompts that you need to type in. Answer accordigly: "1, (press enter), n, (press enter)", A slew of numbers should come up and then cleared with the message "Server started" coming up afterwords.

Joining the server:
You may now go in-game, and click on the Multiplayer section, then click on "Join via IP". Choose character. Then type in "localhost" and press enter, then pressing it a second time. If you are not connecting immediately, then make sure that both the world and the character are either Journey mode or Non-Journey.

Opening up multiple instances:
To open up multiple instances of Terraria, open up terminal, located in the utilities folder in Applications. Run the following command in the Terminal: "open -n /Users/admin/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Terraria/Terraria.app" This should open terraria. You can run this multiple times to have even more instances of terraria.

Purpose of using Multiple instances and a server:
If you use multiple instances and a server, you can just quit out of one terraria, and join with another, not having to boot the game up again, greatly diminishing the amount of time it takes to rejoin

How to Hard-Dupe fast (like really fast)

Hard dupe is the common name for the glitch that lets you double any items by storing them in a world, and rolling back your character to when you still had the items with ALT F4.

This guide will be for Terraria in borderless windowed, and for recording with OBS, some details may only apply to that, thought I'm sure you can get this to work with fullscreen too.

1. Since the dupe requires you to ALT F4 the game, you need to either restart the game afterwards, or **start multiple instances of Terraria before the run**, the latter, is what we'll mostly be looking into.
Go to Steam\steamapps\common\ and run Terraria.exe to start more terrarias. You don't have to wait for one to open to start opening more.
After the extra instances launch, You may find yourself hearing the music from all of them, to get rid of that, tab in and out of each of the windows - doing that once will stop the music.

OBS will only be capturing the first Terraria *until it's closed*, so using preview, make sure you're in the right one before starting the run.

For OBS to automatically switch to the next Terraria when you ALT F4, use window capture and This setting under properties: https://imgur.com/a/OPhFjjM

If Your computer can't handle multiple instances of terraria running in the background, starting Terraria with the .exe after an ALT F4 may still be faster than with Steam.

2. Joining the multiplayer world.
Since the dupe requires you to be in multiplayer, and starting the server with Host & Play every time takes quite a while, you can run a server that won't go down when you close the game.

In the console window select the world **After generating it in the game**, press enter 4 times.
To join the world, use 'Join via IP' and select 127.0.0.1 (localhost) https://imgur.com/a/2AvYuSA
Joining the IP world is near instant, and since it doesn't go down, you can drop the items you're duping instead of storing them in a chest. If it says 'charactername is already in the server' - retry joining until you get in.

Note: time will only progress in the world when there is at least one player. Start timer when you get in.

How to hoik into the Temple

Sometimes the Temple can generate in an unfavorable way, and it can take a full minute just to mine over to the entrance. In non-NMA categories, it may just be quicker to hoik inside to kill Golem. So far two methods of hoiking through solid blocks have been discovered. The simplest one is the horizontal hoik. Simply set up the configuration in the picture below, hold down as you walk through the platform, and you'll go right into the wall. Continue to hammer every other block as seen in the picture below, and you'll soon be out on the other side. This one is reusable. The upwards hoik is slightly more complicated, and can only be used once. First, you need to set up the configuration as shown in the picture. Unlike the horizontal hoik, this one HAS to be facing the direction as seen in the picture. It is still technically possible to vertically hoik if you made the platforms the wrong way, but spare yourself the pain and just build them as seen in the picture. Then, step into the three platforms, and hammer the top one. This will send you into the first two blocks. Then, you need to hammer the sloped tiles once, making them into full blocks, in order to propel you up. To go through more than a few blocks, you need to hammer the next tile in the sequence that is above your head into the correct shape, then hammer the sloped tile that is inside your player once, then hammer the next one above your head, then the one inside your player, etc. It's slower than the horizontal hoik, but it can be quicker than going all the way around to the side, if the side is blocked off by layers of mud.

LiveSplit - Autosplitter and Boss Checklist Setup

LiveSplit is the timer most people use for speedruns.
To have it on the same screen as Terraria during runs, make sure to run the game on 'Borderless Windowed' instead of full screen (it is virtually the same thing, but you can have windows over Terraria).

Autosplitter
-------------

Autosplitter and boss checklist are functions you can use within livesplit; to set it up:
Right click on the timer -> Edit Splits -> Enter 'Terraria' under Game Name -> 'Activate'.

In autosplitter settings, 'Start' check makes the timer start when you enter a world, if it isn't running already.
If you want to use splits, then under **Bosses, Items, and NPCs** you can check what you want to auto-split on. It will only split once per run for every selected event.
A check for auto-split is not tied to any specific split, so if you do things out of order, keep in mind that it will split regardless of what you do first. You can combine auto splits with manual splits if you really need to.

**Bosses** includes:
All the bosses included in an 'All Bosses' category, splits for any one/two/all mechanical bosses, celestial pillars, and a split for All Bosses defeated.
**Items** includes all the items that are seen as potentially useful splits in the current meta.

Boss Checklist
---------------

In the same autosplitter menu, you'll see an option to open the boss checklist. 
You can choose either All Bosses, or All Pre-Hardmode Bosses. Icons of the bosses will light up when their respective have been killed.
The checklist is fully automatic, works independently of your checked autosplits, and will reset along with the timer.

The window is fully adjustable; it's size, position and open state will save along with your split file.
To remove background on OBS, right click on the capture -> Filters -> right click and add Color Key.

Obtaining 1.3.5.3 Terraria (And others!) without tModLoader

As the fabled 1.4 tModLoader day approaches, I think it's important to be ready for it well into the future. Thankfully through steam, all updates are available to users who have purchased a game. **It takes a bit of brainpower to setup**, but it ensures that you won't be left in the dark when Steam updates Terraria or tModLoader.

**Step 1:** Download and install 2 files, the [Steam Depot Downloader](https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases/tag/DepotDownloader_2.3.6) and an install of [.NET core that is above version 2.1](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core)

**For the Depot Downloader**, simply extract the files to a convenient folder. You should know where the folder is located for later, so extracting to somewhere simple like a folder inside Desktop is preferred.

**For .NET Core**, Follow the link above and select the most recent version of .NET (As of writing this guide, it is 5.0). Follow the next page down to ASP.NET Core Runtime, since this package is for running programs that rely on it. Pick your operating system and click on one of the Installer links. It does not matter if you install x64 or x86 or even the Hosting bundle, as all of them function almost identically.
To install it, simply run the executable downloaded, and it should walk you through.

Got both? *Good*. 

**Step 2:** Press Control + R and type "cmd" into the box that comes up to open the Command Prompt (or Windows Powershell). From here, you must navigate to the folder where the Depot Downloader is contained. By using the command "cd" we can specify where the folder is and go to it. For example, if you extracted the downloader to the desktop in an additional folder, you can type "cd c:/users/YOURUSER/Desktop/depotdownloader-2.3.6".
Finally, we can use Depot Downloader to issue a single command.

"dotnet DepotDownloader.dll": This calls for DepotDownloader to run.
"-app 105600": This selects the targeted Steam application. an ID of 105600 stands for Terraria. If you wish to search for other game's app IDs or similar, you can use a handy website called [Steam DB](https://steamdb.info/)
"-depot 105601": This selects the targeted Steam Depot for the application. This is usually for split releases on seperate platforms, the Windows release being 105601. Change to 105602 for Linux and 105603 for Mac.
"-manifest 8115792227484220109": This selects the update in the specific depot to download. Again, you can use SteamDB to find this by searching through the Depot's manifests. The ID of 8115792227484220109 stands for the Windows Depot's 1.3.5.3 release. The id of 8445078731500628527 can be used for 1.4.1.1 Windows, another popular speedrunning version.
"-username YOURSTEAM -password YOURSTEAM": This is to prove you have bought Terraria on steam, otherwise the servers will deny you. Steam guard is also required if you have it. Don't worry, Depot Downloader is made directly by a Valve employee and all the code is open source.
"-dir c:/users/YOURUSER/Downloads/Terraria1.3.5.3": This is **an optional command** tells the downloader where to place the files. It can create new folders or drop it in an existing folder. The downloader defaults to within the folder where it is installed to *if this command is not present*.

After all this, you finally have a copy. You can choose to run Terraria.exe directly out of the folder, or replace the steam install folder with it.

**Frequently Asked Questions**

*"What happened to all my characters? They look corrupted!"*
Don't fret, they aren't actually corrupted. This is simply an issue with showing the character when there is new content available. If you are downgrading to 1.4.1.1 from 1.4.1.2 you may simply get a bugged character, but in older versions the game may crash. To prevent the characters from showing, you can move the .plr files of the character to another place entirely.

*"Why not just use tModLoader?"*
Like I mentioned above, the tModLoader team is actively working on making tModLoader for 1.4. Once that day happens, this method will be easier to obtain a 1.3 copy. Also, a lot of code has been refactored in tML to focus on modding, which could impact hidden things like RNG and multiplayer stability.
