Hey all. I'm new to the speedrunning community but I've been playing TSB forever.

Are there any categories we can come up with that would make this a legit game to compete on? Tecmo Bowl has speedruns for time on wins and losses, this TSB has one entry for most rushing yards...

Is there a way we can make a category competitive? I know there's a big scene for this game... any ideas?

i completely agree. i am a Tecmo Bowl speedrunner and would love some new categories for this game.

I'll add a win a single game category for sure. I will not add lose a game category however that is basically the exact same as win the game and pretty pointless. I'm up for suggestions on other categories, maybe a points total.

another category that i was thinking of is a pro bowl win game. tell me what you think about that.

I think Pro Bowl just goes into the same category as Win a game. It's the same scenario just against a team with a better offense/defense.

As for point challenges I was discussing with a friend I think getting to 49 points (7 TDs + XP) would be a good speed goal to achieve for a NFL sports game. 100 points works really well in basketball and this is more based on execution so I believe this to be a pretty solid category.

I can offer the following to the list of potential categories.

Division% - Timer stops when you see the screen telling you that you have clinched your Division. Really just a mid-way between the single game and the whole season.

Single Game - Points% - Honestly, any wall to hit (35, 49, 70) could be fun to try.

Week 1 Challenge - Pick one team from every game in Week 1. Win every game. Timer begins when you start your first game and ends when you finish the last of the week. This would be 14 games, so another mid-way between single and whole. But having to use 14 different teams would make this much more challenging than floating home with the over-powered monster teams in this game.
