Emulator? Yes, No, Why?

All the posts about emulators are people using broken English or typing without thought. -Is the emulator version of this game allowed to be submitted? If so, please add notes below about what to use and how to ensure that all the setup is correct prior to submission (last post was 3+ years ago regarding this and no follow up answers were posted). If not, please leave a detailed message below about why they are not. It looks like the people holding the reigns here just have no desire to lay out the black and white answer and I am pretty inclined to run this game. People with PC's do not want to buy capture cards when we have all the software at our disposal.

I hope nothing is taken offensive, I am trying to be clear and blunt to the point. More people embracing a good game and wanting to add to its community should be embraced if the proper requirements are met! Thank you for any and all replies and clarification. Lets slaughter some demons!

Hey thanks for inquiring, it is nice to see this game get some attention again lately. First off I apologize but I haven't been putting any time into speedrunning for the past while, I'm eager to get all these issues cleared up though. Basically emulator was "banned" because there was just so little information about it, I had personally never seen it run or got an xbox or ps3 emulator running myself so we kinda just said no use worrying about timings or anything. It has been a few years and honestly if anybody wants to figure out emulator stuff I say go right ahead and we can make space for it. Personally I always wanted to get a deeper look at some in-game mechanics and savestates could be great to practice somethings.

Im on discord alot more than I check src if you use that, join the server thats in the sidepanels. I'm always down for discussion and changes of stuff, the boards should reflect the current player base.

Hello everyone ,

I've been reading some of the threads here concerning emulation and I wanted to share a few things maybe some of you find helpful.

In my experience, Dante's Inferno is 100% playable on RPCS3, the PS3 emulator, from start to finish (I played the whole game and it's flawless). It's one of the fully playable games without any game-breaking bugs, provided, of course, the required hardware is there. But usually, any mid-range PC these days (even laptops) can run it smoothly without problems.

On xenia/xenia-canary, the Xbox 360 emulator, the game is also playable, but I've read on many occasions that there's a fatal error when you get to the 'Descent into Violence' level, some people reported that you cannot advance from that point. So I'm planning to see if that's true. I'll give updates when I get to that.

Now, for save-states for practice purposes, RPCS3 indeed offers a save-state feature, but it's nowhere near to what we know in PS1/PS2 emulators. It's not your typical quicksave/quickload whenever and wherever you want. Once you press the hotkey to save your state, the emulator closes itself. Then, when you re-launch the game, that's when you'll be able to quick-load.

With that said, I'll work on making two runs for Dante's Inferno on 2 different emulators when I get some time to afford. Obviously, Rpcs3 is the winner in this case, but I also want to make sure that this xenia-emulator fatal error truly exists. Therefore, the only option left for emulating this beloved game would be Rpcs3.

Update : I confirm that the xenia-canary bug exists. When you get to the minotaur statue in the 'Descent into violence' level, and after destroying the glowing pile of rocks, you won't be able to activate the switch, so you just end up stuck there. There's a workaround to fix this ( importing the save file from xenia-canary build to xenia-master build can solve this issue, from there you load, get to the next save point, then import back the new save to canary) but that beats the purpose of speedrunning in the first place. For now the only viable emulators to speedrun the game without problems are RPCS3 and PPSSPP.

I really like this idea. With the boards i'd even seperate emulator runs from the console runs.
