This a guide for those who have never touched this game and aren't sure how it works!
IMPORTANT I suggest playing the PC or Wii version as the PS2 emulation with pcsx2 doesnt seem to work very well at all. It crashes, has graphical bugs, and at the start there is a invisible wall blocking you off during one race.
Controls: The weirdest part of this game and it may be confusing at first. On PC- to move barbie you press w/up one time to walk and another to run. press down/s once or twice to stop. this goes with the horse as well. Press up/w to accelerate and down/s to decelerate Spacebar is used to jump on the horse, get off/on the horse and close menus. Enter is to accept messages and text.
Story: Very simple and not detailed. A storm has apparently gone through the island, destroying some stuff and as you progress you may find yourself fixing things for others.
Quests: This game has quests, there are a certain number you must do before you can earn a ribbon from the races. On your phone you can look at a progress menu that shows a number of hearts for how many quests you do. Be sure to always talk to a character or object with a green star, as that confirms you have done the mission and gives you progress!
Collectibles: Gems, Horse shoes, and Apples- items you can collect to get money. at ever 10 items gathered you will receive some credits.
Races: There are fives races in the game, each has a practice race before the final. Race 3 is a little unique in that the practice for jumping is not at the same location as the final Ribbon 3 race. You will have to do 7 quests before you can get the ribbon for the track you need to do (practices count as quests).
Tips:
- controlling the horses isnt too bad once you get it- be careful on certain slopes or falls as you may be reset, but doing it right will let you slide down quickly with no problem!
- the game is pretty glitchy with certain things, this can be good and bad. be careful how hard you run into objects/surfaces!
- jump over an object or hurdle when you think it is late! you might think wrong but youre probably not as close as you think you are when jumping.
- cut corners on races as much as you can, but not too close as you may not hit the check point.
- mentioned in the Ribbon run guide, dont take more quests than you need too as doing more than 7 before completing the ribbon race you need to do will end up wasting your progress! it wont go to your next ribbon's progress until you finish the race you need to do.
