# Code of Conduct

Violations of the below Code of Conduct should be reported either via the [Community Feedback form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1XZBDvGQTw84Lf5958KEqcoPzQMyunNttoR7MiVqbbgs) or by directly contacting a member of the SRC mod team on Discord:

All reports will be reviewed as promptly as we are able to; however, keep in mind that these issues can take time for us to discuss, gather information on, and handle.

All members of the team are obligated to respect your privacy and keep your report and identity confidential, unless you agree otherwise.

If you believe there may be a conflict of interest with regards to specific members of our team, please make it known to another member to discuss how to proceed.

## Aim

Our Code of Conduct aims to ensure that all members of the community are able to participate in an environment which feels safe, inclusive, and welcoming. It is our hope that all members of our community can be heard while feeling understood and valued; and when complaints are heard, we must also identify clear approaches to dealing with problematic behavior.

## Values

Positive habits help contribute to a more positive environment for everyone, and we encourage our community members to practice them. These include:

- Showing empathy and kindness towards others.
- Respecting different opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.
- Giving kind, constructive feedback, and accepting feedback gracefully.
- Accepting responsibility and apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and doing our best to learn and grow from these experiences.

## Unacceptable Behaviour

Community members must not discriminate against others based upon their race, ethnicity, appearance, religion, age, disability, citizenship, familial status, sexual identity and orientation, gender identity and expression, medical condition, level of experience, or personal achievements. Discrimination based on any of these factors, but not limited to these factors, is unacceptable.

Members of our community must not harass others. Harassment may include:

- intimidation
- trolling
- making threats
- spreading malicious rumors
- creation of alternate accounts to evade a ban
- stalking
- use of sexual or discriminatory imagery, comments, or jokes
- unwanted sexual attention or advances
- intentional or repeated misgendering
- using “dead” or rejected names
- discriminatory or derogatory remarks
- challenging people’s self-identity or chosen labels

Other unacceptable behaviors include:

- Publishing private personal information without explicit permission.
- Microaggressions, or subtle put-downs against marginalized groups.
- Treating someone unfavourably for filing a complaint against community member(s).

## Scope

Our Code of Conduct applies to all discourse within our public community spaces. This includes community servers, stream chats, video comment sections, group messages, forums, and anywhere else allowing for public discourse.

Our Code of Conduct also applies to all discourse outside of our public community spaces if brought to the attention of community members. This is important because regardless of how a person has carried themselves within our community in the past, it is not possible for community members to feel comfortable and safe interacting with a person who actively discriminates against them in other spaces.

Members are expected to act accordingly to any services' TOS they use. Failing to do so may carry punitive or correctional measures not only with the service itself, but also to their community status and presence.

## Actions

These are measures typically used when a case is either not possible to solve, or when the scope of the infraction(s) transcend a solution purely between the actors:

### Warning

For first time violations or minor violations of the Code of Conduct, a warning may be given. In this warning, they will be told about their problematic behavior and be advised to improve it. The member will be informed of what future actions will be taken should their behavior continue. An apology, public or private, may be requested from the warned individual.

### Event / Miscellaneous Ban

For violations of the Code of Conduct, a member may receive a ban from an event or from some other part of the community. Typically, this will be offered as part of, or in conjunction with, a warning.

### Temporary Ban

For serious violations or repeated minor violations of the Code of Conduct, but when there is believed to be potential for self-improvement over time, a temporary ban may be given. The Speedrunner role of the offending member will be revoked for a period of time, and the member will similarly not be allowed access to any future Hollow Knight Speedrunning Discord during this time. This temporary ban will last as long as deemed necessary, whether that be ten minutes, ten months, etc. The decision to lift a temporary ban may be informed by community feedback if deemed appropriate.

### Permanent Ban

For serious or continued violations of the Code of Conduct, a permanent ban may be given. The Speedrunner role of the offending member will be permanently revoked, and the member will similarly not be allowed access to any future Hollow Knight Speedrunning Discord.

### Leaderboard Ban

In extreme cases, leaderboard bans may accompany permanent bans. The offending member will have their runs on the Hollow Knight speedrun.com leaderboards deleted, and will not be allowed to submit any runs in the future. The boards include hollowknight, hkmemes, hkmods, and any other/future boards relevant to the community.


*How to Downpatch Hollow Knight (Updated)

# Introduction

Many speedruns of Hollow Knight are done on previous patches of the game because important skips and glitches have been added and removed over time. That being said, **you are never required to run on the most optimal patch**, and many runs can be done on current patch if that's what you want to use.

Most speedruns are done on **1.2.2.1** for No Major Glitches or **1.0.2.8** for All Glitches and No Main Menu Storage, but it can vary. If you're unsure, check what patch the run you're following uses or ask in the Hollow Knight Speedrunning Community discord.

## Downpatching for Steam

There are two patches that can be accessed very easily through the **Beta** branches on Steam:

**1.4.3.2** - Godmaster final patch, can be used for Current Patch runs

**1.2.2.1** - Grimm Troupe final patch, optimal for most other No Major Glitches runs

**1)** Right-click Hollow Knight in Steam and select **Properties**.

**2)** Select the patch you want to use under the **Betas** tab.

**3)** Hollow Knight will now automatically update to your chosen patch.

If you want to access a different patch, there are two other options for downpatching through Steam. The first option is to patch Steam to re-enable the old method of downpatching through Steam's console. The second option is to download a separate tool called DepotDownloader, but this tool is awkward to use and has some dependencies. This is why patching Steam should be the first method you try and the details will be listed in the section below.

## Downpatching for GoG

This method will only work **if you own the game on GoG**. If you own the game on Steam you will need to use the Steam method.

Downpatching for GoG is very simple, **however currently most useful patches are unavailable through GoG**.

**1)** In GoG Galaxy, under Hollow Knight, select **Manage Installation->Configure...**

**2)** Make sure that **Auto-updates** is turned off.

**3)** Select whichever Hollow Knight version you need:

**4)** Your game will be automatically updated to the chosen patch.

# Patching Steam

**1)** Navigate to the Steam console by pressing Win+R and typing "steam://nav/console".

**2)** Enter the following command depending on the patch you want to download:

**1.4.2.4** - Godmaster release patch, used for Pantheon All Bindings ILs
**Command:** "download_depot 367520 367521 7281172781181458959"

**1.3.1.5** - Lifeblood release patch, used for many NMMS categories

**1.1.1.8** - Hidden Dreams final patch

These are the commands for the most useful patches, on **Windows only**. A full list for every patch including IDs for Mac and Linux can be found **[here](https://pastebin.com/JCKRcL7M)**.

**3)** Be patient on the download. When it's finished a "Depot download complete" message will appear in the console and you can move onto the Installation section.

# Installing

If you used the patching Steam method, the old patch files will be in your Steam install folder under "Steam\SteamApps\content\app_367520" and inside another folder.

If you used the alternate DepotDownloader method outlined later, the old patch files you downloaded can be found in the "depots" folder inside a few other folders.

The important files here are "hollow_knight.exe" and the entire "hollow_knight_Data" folder.

If you only want a downpatched version of Hollow Knight installed, you can delete the files in your current Steam install and copy these files there instead. However, there is an easy way to have multiple versions of Hollow Knight installed that I'll outline below.

## Multiple Installed Patches

**1)** Create a folder anywhere you like and name it something that'll remind you it contains your downpatched Hollow Knight version. I created a folder named 1221 in the same location that I downloaded DepotDownloader to. Copy the old patch files here.

**2)** Create a new text document in this folder titled "steam_appid" and in that document copy only the number "367520". **If you have file name extensions showing, the name of document will be "steam_appid.txt", if you don't you'll only see "steam_appid".**

**3)** Optional: Add this install to Steam as a Non-Steam Game so that you can launch it directly through Steam whenever you want.

# Save Files

Saves files are shared across every Hollow Knight installation, regardless of the patch. These files are located at "C:\Users\yourname\AppData\LocalLow\Team Cherry\Hollow Knight".

Launching a current patch save with an older patch version of Hollow Knight can corrupt that save file. If you want to protect your casual save file, you can make a backup of the files in the location specified above.

# Deleting Windows Registry

Some people have issues with their game after downpatching from current patch to an older patch. These might include the game crashing or not accepting inputs when sitting at benches, quitting out or some other interactions. If you have weird issues like this, deleting Team Cherry's folder in your Registry might help.

**1)** Press the Windows button and R at the same to time to bring up the Run command line, enter "regedit" and press enter.

**2)** Navigate to "Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Team Cherry" and delete that folder.

# DepotDownloader Setup

The next method outlined below also has a video guide made by Verulean. I'd recommend watching that guide alongside reading this one:

**1)** You need to acquire .NET Core from Microsoft's website **[here](https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet-core)**, make sure to download the current recommended build for your operating system (Windows x64 for most users, but please check this).

**2)** Launch the downloaded executable and follow the instructions to install .NET

**If you're still running Windows 7** you'll need an additional update from Microsoft's website **[here](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26764)**.

**3)**  Download the DepotDownloader tool from GitHub **[here](https://github.com/SteamRE/DepotDownloader/releases)**. Find whatever the latest release is and make sure to use the first download link, **not the source code**.

**4)** Move the .zip to somewhere you'll remember and extract it (WinRAR and 7-Zip are free tools that can extract .zip files)

# Using DepotDownloader

**1)** In the extracted DepotDownloader folder bring up the command line at that location by typing "cmd.exe" into the address bar or by Shift + Right-clicking and selecting "Open PowerShell window here".

**2)** Now you can enter the commands to download the downpatched files for whichever Hollow Knight version you need. The first thing we need is the manifest ID for the patch you want to download.

Listed below are the manifest IDs for the most useful patches, on **Windows only**. A full list for every patch including IDs for Mac and Linux can be found **[here](https://pastebin.com/JCKRcL7M)**.

**3)** Take this number and replace <manifest> in the following command as well as **replacing <username> and <password> with your steam account's details**.

dotnet DepotDownloader.dll -app 367520 -depot 367521 -manifest <manifest> -username <username> -password <password>

Pasting your complete command in command line and hitting enter should begin the download. **If you have Steam Guard active you will be prompted for your code**. The command may not work if your password contains a special character. In this case don't include the "-password" part of the command and you will be prompted for your password instead. Here's an example of me using the code to download patch 1.2.2.1 (manifest ID 648876203478229944).

You will be able to check progress as the patch downloads. Be patient as it will take longer than a normal Steam download.

*How to export a Twitch highlight to YouTube for resubmission

If you previously submitted a run with video evidence in the form of a Twitch highlight, follow this guide to export that highlight to YouTube.

1. If your YouTube account is not connected to your Twitch account, you can do so by heading to the Connections page in your account settings on Twitch.

2. Head to your submitted run's page and go to the video link.

4. Click the Export button in the top left of the video window.

5. Enter your desired title and description, then export. Make sure the video visibility is set to Public.

6. Head to YouTube to your channel page, then click Manage Videos.

7. Find the exported video in your YouTube page. This may take a few minutes from when you clicked Start Export.

8. Copy the link of the video, and resubmit your run using this link instead of the Twitch Highlight link.

*How to LiveSplit & Autosplit for Newbies

If you are new to speedrunning Hollow Knight, please be sure to read through this guide thoroughly to ensure your setup is correct. If you are not recording your loadless time properly, then your run cannot be considered on any of the leaderboards, so if you're not sure what to do, follow the steps below.

There is now a program to automatically generate splits files for various speedrunning categories. To use this, visit https://hksplitmaker.com/ and follow the instructions or view the video tutorial! This is recommended for beginners.

[big]**(1)[/big]** Download and extract LiveSplit. [Download link.](http://livesplit.github.io/downloads/)

[big]**(2)[/big]** Open LiveSplit. You should see a timer with "0.00". Right click on it and select Edit Splits. 

If you used hksplitmaker, instead click Open Splits > From File and find the split file, then skip to step 5.

[big]**(3)[/big]** In the Splits Editor, fill out your Game Name and Run Category. Create splits by using the Insert buttons on the left. Viewing runs from other players may be helpful in deciding which splits to create. [Example.](http://imgur.com/wiztyA5)

[big]**(4)[/big]** After typing in Hollow Knight as the Game Name, the auto splitter should automatically be detected. Activate it and click on Settings. In this window, we set up triggers for each split. Every time we reach one of the triggers that we set, LiveSplit will automatically move on to the next split for us. Therefore, for each split you added earlier, you need to add the corresponding trigger. Click "Add Split" in the top left for each split you added earlier, and then find the triggers within the drop down boxes. If your category ends with killing Hollow Knight, you do not need to worry about adding this trigger, as the Autosplitter will automatically split at that point. When finished, hit OK to exit the Autosplitter and then OK to exit the Splits Editor. [Example.](http://imgur.com/opm6tlE)

[big]**(5)[/big]** Right click on your timer again and select Edit Layout this time.

[big]**(6)[/big]** Feel free to skip this step if you want to design your own layout. In the Layout Editor, hit the + Button and add a Title, a Separator, Splits, a Detailed Timer, Previous Segment, and Sum of Best Segments. When finished, hit OK to exit the Layout Editor. [big]**(7)[/big]** Right click on LiveSplit and under Compare Against, select Game Time.

[big]**(8)[/big]** Right click on LiveSplit and create save files for both your Splits and Layout.

[big]**(9)[/big]** Right click on Livesplit and select Settings. Take note of the hotkeys and make changes if desired. Ensure that the Global Hotkeys option is checked, as this will allow you to use the hotkeys while your Hollow Knight window is in focus.

[big]**(10)[/big]** It's time to test it out. With your LiveSplit open, start a new game of Hollow Knight. If your timer automatically begins and briefly pauses a couple of times as the game loads up, you're good. Have fun on your run!

That's it. If everything worked out, you may next decide to liven up your LiveSplit by making changes to the Layout Settings in the Layout Editor. Some also prefer to have a second timer to track their realtime speed as well. You can do this by creating a second timer in the Layout Editor, and in its settings, changing the Timing Method to Real Time.

**Q.** Why is my loadless timer not functioning, my timer lagging, or why has my timer not started up when I select new game?
**A.** Make sure you open LiveSplit after starting Hollow Knight. Try restarting LiveSplit. If that doesn't work, try restarting Hollow Knight and then LiveSplit. If that doesn't work, try restarting your computer.

**Q.** Why don't any of my hotkeys work?
**A.** Make sure you have Global Hotkeys enabled under settings.

**Q.** Why are there so many empty splits / so much empty space in my layout?
**A.** In your layout editor, double click splits. Find the total splits setting and reduce it to the amount of splits you want to have displayed at any given time.

**Q.** Why does my autosplitter not automatically split on certain splits, or why does my autosplitter split randomly?
**A.** Double check that you are on the correct patch, as these glitches sometimes occur on later patches. If you cannot solve any of these errors with the autosplitter, contact @DevilSquirrel in the discord. Also, ensure that you know what your "Undo Split" hotkey is in the settings in case it is needed.

**Q.** I only have one monitor and want to use LiveSplit on the same screen. How do I do that?
**A.** Enable Windowed mode in Hollow Knight by hitting Alt+Enter; alternatively, you can use the -popupwindow launch option in Steam. To do so, right click Hollow Knight in your Library, and go to Properties, then General. Add "-popupwindow" in the Launch Options, omitting the double quotes.

If you have any other problems, try running LiveSplit as an administrator.

**Patch** - The most optimal patch for this category is 1.2.2.1.
**Essence** - All Dream Bosses (excluding Zote) give a total of 2400 essence, but you'll still need a bit of Tree-Essence for Dreamgate Usage.
**Language** - On Chinese / Mandarin the text boxes are much faster, so make sure to change that in the game options, once you are familiar with the dialogues of the game.

All Skills No Major Glitches

[big]**What is All Skills NMG?**[/big]

All Skills No Major Glitches is a relatively short (around an hour long) and easy category, recommended for beginners. The aim of the category is to collect all the game's "skills" (which the community has defined as all movement abilities, spells and nail arts) and then beat the game by defeating the Hollow Knight. "No Major Glitches" means that the run is generally limited to using the game's mechanics as intended: no floats, no Out of Bounds, no skipping important bosses etc. However, this doesn't mean the category has no skips or tricks of its own as you'll see.  

[big]**Why should I run it?**[/big]

All Skills NMG is a very appropriate choice for new runners for a number of reasons:
* It's relatively short, just over an hour long after some practice.
* Collecting all the skills means having powerful upgraded spells for all the boss fights. This makes it one of the easiest categories to complete a run in.
* It visits a lot of different areas of the game and fights bosses that are only otherwise seen in the very long 1xx% completion categories.

[big]**What do I need?**[/big]

Firstly, the main route is heavily dependant on a glitch that only exists on patch 1.2.2.1 of the game. If you're on PC, follow [this guide](https://www.speedrun.com/hollowknight/guide/jlten) to downpatch your game to the correct version. If you're on Console or you simply don't want to downpatch, you can run the Current Patch route instead.

**1.2.2.1 and Current Patch have separate routes and leaderboards. Even though 1.2.2.1 is faster and more competitive, Current Patch is still enjoyable and a good starter category.**

Second, if you want to submit your runs to the leaderboard you'll need to record them. I recommend OBS; it's easy to use and configure and relatively light on system resources. If you're on PC you can follow [this guide](https://www.speedrun.com/hollowknight/guide/cg9vl) to set up LiveSplit and the autosplitter. Using LiveSplit and the autosplitter is not absolutely required, however without it your runs will be timed RTA (real-time) instead. RTA is the timing method used for Console runs because unlike on PC, loads are the same length between different runners on the same Console.

If you have all of the above set-up you can start running. Although, I'd recommend reading through the entire guide and watching a full run first.

[big]**Game Settings**[/big]

"What input method should I use?" is a question that's often asked by new runners. The answer is simply whatever you're comfortable with. There are top runners of this game who use keyboard and a variety of different controllers. One recommendation I have if you're using a controller, rebind "Quick Cast" to one of your face buttons. It's one of the most used controls besides Jump and Attack and it's important you can time your presses quickly and accurately.

For graphics settings, on PC it's very important to **turn vsync off**. Low fps in this game doesn't prevent you from doing any tricks, but it will lead to fairly regular dropped inputs. Vsync only exacerbates this problem by adding input lag. If you have low fps even with vsync off, set particle effects to low and reduce the size of the game window to 1600x900 or possibly even 1280x720.

Finally, the fastest language for this game is Chinese. You can find it very easily by moving two places left from English. As well as having fewer characters, Chinese text also allows you to scroll through it faster for unknown reasons. English is totally fine for your first runs, but you want to be using Chinese if you're looking for competitive times.

#About This Guide
Welcome to the Any% Current Patch NMG Shade Soul Route guide! The purpose of this guide is to introduce people to an easier route for the any% category. It bypasses a few of the harder sections of the tradition any% route with shade soul including: devouts, infected crossroads, bosses, and petra arena. It is in total ~7 minutes slower.

Many of the splits are the exact same as the traditional routes except for the few where we need to take a detour and pick up Shade Soul, and the fact that we will actually have Shade Soul in the late game. Splits marked with (same) use the exact same movement and route. 

This guide will have links to almost every optional trick/optimization that you can perform, though 95% of them are optional. Each split will also have a video of me performing it, but keep in mind that these videos will almost always feature imperfections in movement and execution. If you want a truly optimized example, watch world record runs for (same) splits. 

In general, I recommend this guide to anyone who wants to learn how to speedrun but is too overwhelmed to learn the standard any% route which is insanely difficult. It is common for people to want to get nail 1 when they start, but getting a nail upgrade is so minuscule that, for many new players, it is actually faster to get Shade Soul and make up the time by dying less.

Good luck in learning Any% CP Shade Soul. Speedrunning is a personal journey about self-improvement, so make sure to enjoy every moment of it!

#How to Learn
If you don't want to read the entire guide (it is insanely long), I recommend watching a full run and just copying movement. This guide has videos for each split linked, but know that there are many imperfections. Watch world record runs or ComSoBs for (same) splits for better-optimized gameplay. Once you know the route, here is a general progression as to how you should optimize your time:

**Killing Bosses 1st Try -> Major Skips -> Killing Bosses Fast -> Minor Skips -> Cleaner Movement**

For practicing, everyone has a different approach as to how you should learn. The order above is a good place to start. Install the debug mod and benchwarp and practice single segments of the run that you are losing a lot of time on. For example, if you are dying to Watcher Knights, practice that fight over and over until its first try. 
Watching other people is also really useful. It is hard to figure out what you are doing wrong unless you know what is right.
Last tip, take breaks! Your brain learns and organizes info when you are sleeping, so just thinking about the game can help!

#Downpatching

It is important to note that this run and guide are tailored for patch 1.4.3.2. All Current Patch categories allow any patch from 1.4.3.2 or newer (as of 7/5/21). Though the differences are minor, (Watcher Knight backroll and freeze frame changes), it is easier and more recommended to use 1.4.3.2, especially since you don't have to "downpatch" in the traditional sense as you would for 1.5 to 1.2.2.1. This is because the Steam version of Hollow Knight allows you to redownload 1.4.3.2 straight off of the client.

To do this, right click on Hollow Knight in your library and select Properties. Go to the Betas tab on the left. Then, select 1.4.3.2 and you can download it. Note, ignore the section about beta codes.

**Hornet Tips**

Learn how to punish her attacks. You should avoid using soul to heal and instead for fireballs. A fireball does 15 whereas nail does 5. Hornet staggers every 6 hits. After staggering, she will always jump (short or long is random) and you can punish it with 3 nail swings and a fireball. When Hornet throws her needle, she will reset her stagger count. When she throws her needle, you can mini hop in and do a nail fireball nail, jump over the needle and do another nail fireball nail. Ofc if you don't have the soul, you can do straight nail hits.

**Description**
Brace yourself this is a loooong split
1. Backtrack out of Resting Grounds and head right. Go down the elevator.
1.5. Optionally: Seer Skip
2. Gather 6 soul. Pick up the Wanderer's Journal and kill the three husks for their geo with 2 fireballs
3. Head into King's Station and pick up [this relic] above the stag, then bench at the stag for a save quit. Note that it is faster to not damage tank on spikes.
4. Kill Gorgeous Husk and the husks before it.
5. Head up the elevators and perform Spire Pogo. You do NOT need to hit the lever to the left. You can reset the room and retry Spire Pogo if you mess up. 
6. Try to avoid taking the safety bench to the left as it means you have to walk all the way back to King's Station later on. Kill the row of husks at the top with one fireball. The husk sentry will take another nail swing. Below them is one big fat husk which you can use to farm some soul. Drop down and kill the Great Husk Sentry and Winged Sentry.
7. In the top right, hit the lever, and then exit. Head to the left, jumping over the Great Husk Sentry and some other sentries. Keep going left. Hit the lever and open the gate. After the bridge connecting two spires, drop down.
8. Go to the left past a Heavy Sentry and pick up Rafters Seal at the very top of a few platforms. Head back to Lemm and finally sell everything. You should have 2950 geo at the very least.
9. Save quit back to King's Station. Purchase the stag and stag back to Dirtmouth.

#Shade Soul

4. Head into the Watcher's Spire again and do Spire Pogo.
5. Take the bench in Watcher's Spire and head up and then to the left towards Soul Sanctum.
6. Kill the first Soul Twister as you enter soul sanctum who takes on fireball and 3 nail hits. You do NOT need all the geo. For the rest of the run, we only need 250. 
7. Head to the left and use the Elegant Key. Kill the Soul Warrior by trying to get as many doubles as possible. You do NOT need all the geo from the Soul Warrior. For the rest of the run, we only need 250.
8. Get Shade Soul then Save Quit back to the bench in Watcher's Spire.

**Soul Warrior Tips**

I recommend taking care of the follies as soon as they spawn. They die in one fireball or three nail hits. Depending on how familiar you are with the fight, you can use them to gather soul then unleash fireballs on the Soul Warrior going for doubles. Alternatively, you can try to use your fireballs to kill the follies and hit the Soul Warrior.
Soul Warrior has three moves. You can jump and pogo his dash. You can sidestep or dash for his plunging attack, then turn around and nail fireball or nail nail fireball. You can jump and dash over his soul blast, then dodge it when it boomerangs back. 

#Watcher Knights (same)

**Description**
1. Go up after save quitting. If possible, try to gather three soul. One from a cowardly husk that you can pogo on, and two from the Winged Sentry guarding an elevator.
2. Break the breakable ceiling hiding a chandelier either with a fireball or your nail. Drop the chandelier.
3. Dream nail the Watcher Knights before the fight starts for full soul. You can also get a dream nail on the Watcher Knight as they spawn in.

**Watcher Knight Tips**

For the first Knight, stick close to him so he does his triple nail slash. Dash over him and do nail fireballs as he slashes the other side. You can get 3 hits in before having to jump over him again. Fireball him whenever he jumps and rolls. When the Watcher Knight does the rolling attack, you can shoot a fireball in the direction he is rolling and get triple hits.
When there are two Watcher Knights, use your fireballs to hit both of them. You want them as close together as possible so you can control both of their AI's and punish. 


#Uumuu (same)

**Description**
0. Murder Lurien in his sleep. You do not need to pick up the rewards for WK. Do get some of the geo chest if you aren't at 250. Anything more than that is unnecessary.
1. Backtrack all the way to back to King's Station the way you came. Use __[this](https://imgur.com/a/NPi600i)__ location to Crystal Dash all the way across the large room left of King's Station. 
2. Stag back to Dirtmouth, and head down the well. Go left and drop down the Gruzzer room. 
2.5. Optionally: Pause Early Control
3. Go to the left of where Cornifer usually is and perform Forgotten Crossroads Acid Skip. You can use the Aspid Mother to farm infinite soul., but it is slow.
4. Drop all the way down Fog Canyon and go left to the Teachers Archive. There is a safety bench there.
4.5. Optionally: Trinomi Drop
5. Kill Uumuu. I would suggest getting comfortable with killing Uumuu in 3 cycles atleast. 2 cycles with Shade Soul is super doable, but you don't need to push yourself to learn it. 1 Cycle is also possible but becomes a little rng.

**Uumuu Tips**

Uumuu has a slow attack and a fast attack. He will become vulnerable after three attacks for the first cycle, then two attacks for every other cycle. Randomly (and also fps dependent), he will do an extra attack for that cycle. His movement will become slow when Quirrel is about to slash him. 
Try to get a dream nail in between attacks and especially during fast attacks for soul.
You can evade his slow attack by just walking and jumping.
You can evade his fast attack by going to the middle platform which will have a safe location, or one of the two lowest platforms on each side of the arena.
Try to empty your entire soul meter during each phase since you can usually get 2 or 3 dream nails per cycle.

#Deepnest Spa (slower route) (same)

**Description**
0. Murder Monomon in her sleep
1. Head out of Teacher's Archives and go to the left where there is a breakable wall.
2. Drop down through Fog Canyon into Queen's Station. Crystal dash across Queen's Station and into Fungal wastes. Cancel Crystal Dash at the first room transition below you.
3. Head to the left and into the room with a pool of acid. On the other side, there is a breakable wall. 
3.5 Optionally: Pick up Spore Shroom below the pool of acid. This makes the THK fight super easy because it is glitched on patch 1.4.3.2. Note that it is not as fast as traditional any% since we have Shade Soul already.
4. Head to the left until you reach the edge and turn around. The ground will break. Enter Deepnest.
5. Follow the route down to Deepnest Spa. You can optionally take the bench and/or sit in the Spa for some soul.

#Trap Bench (slower route) (same)

No notable checkpoints. Follow the route to get to Beasts Den, then sit on Trap Bench.

#Herrah (same)

**Description**
This place sucks. General tips for wall spiders are try to get under them then jump and pogo. Here, I HIGHLY recommend watching __[Fireb0rns Herrah split guide](https://youtu.be/mA0lewYacyk?t=1490)__ as he goes in detail for every single spider.
With shade soul, devouts die in 3 fireballs so just come in with nine soul and murder the first one.
If you don't have enough soul to comfortably kill the first one, there is a breakable ground on the right with two spiders that will provide 6 soul.
Gather soul on small spiders as you make your way to Herrah to kill the last devout. For some reason, the last devout has a really high chance to get double hit, so if you make it to the last one with 6 soul, pray.

As I said in the video, the beginning of the third room is relatively chill, you have a bit of time spare for the cycle, but after you down pogo the sawblade your walljumps have to be as quick as possible. So if you can't get it for 20 hours don't worry I also been there but try to focus on your walljumps towards the end. (thorn skip really is just muscle memory I'm sorry ):

__My best times__ (**Dashmaster**, **Sprintmaster**, **Current Patch**):
1st room: 27.08, Exit 2nd Room: 1:00.68, Exit 3rd Room: 1:21.16 (4th room with more optimized fireballs can go towards 45.3 seconds) -> SoB: 2:06.3x (approx.)
__Good **Sprintmaster**, **Current Patch** times:__
1st room: 27.3, Exit 2nd Room: 1:01.30, Exit 3rd Room 1:22.00, (4th Room should take around 45.70 seconds)
[1221 Patch loses too much time (=1 second) in the last room so I won't list it here. Although I could suggest you start learning Path of Pain on 1221 since the cycles are easier but the movement is still the same]

**One thing I forgot to mention in the video:**
*Faster* doesn't always conclude being overall faster. Path of Pain is very cycle based so rather try to beat the cycles than losing every run to small optimizations that won't beat the cycle anyway *:)*
Go with whatever strat you're the most comfy with. Thorn skip also only loses around 4-5 seconds and dashmaster only gains like 0.6 seconds at tas level ~~[sarcasm]~~ you really don't need to feel pressured to go for dashmaster when starting to run nor thorn skip, just enjoy your time and try to beat your own pb *:)*
